So, with this whole mess coming to light over the last little bit, how does everyone think Sony will, if at all, recover from this? are we looking at the end of Sony, or, at least the Playstation aspect of it?

And if this is the end of Playstation, what do you all think is in the future for console gaming and production?

i just mean with the class action suit, the CC number's being sold and basically the whole cluster-fuck this hacking has turned into. I'm sure the Company as a whole will survive, I just wonder if Playstation will.

I highly doubt this kill the entire company. Sony is very huge with it's figures in many pies. Although this could possibly be enough to kill their video game development, but I doubt it.
Sony is like the Hydra, cut off one head and two more grow in it's place. A lot of multinational corporations are like that come to think of it.

I believe he is referring to the shutting down of PSN and the leaking of personal info, there's a article about it on the site that I don't feel like searching for.

I think they'll recover, it'll cost a lot and will be some time before they fully recover, maybe not till the next console generation, but they have the resources to survive it.

It's Sony.

They'll be fine. They're one of the biggest companies in electronics - this is a little bad PR, and it will pass.

A year from now, most people will have forgotten this.

Huge exaggeration, if anything. It's only human tendency to perceive reality in a more dramatic way then it actually is.

Other than that, I just hope that they learned from their mistakes and that they'll actually start encrypting shit.

No, this isn't the end of Sony or the Playstation brand. If Microsoft was able to keep the xbox 360 going strong even after all the bullshit that happened with the red ring of death (2 of my consoles died because of it), Sony can get through this.

Yes, this was a serious security breach, but for all we know, the extent of the damage could be minimal, only time will tell. We'll be able to know more once PSN gets back online. Seriously though, I'm pretty sure Sony will be able to smooth all of this over with some "good faith" PSN credit or something, maybe temporarily giving all their customers PSN Plus, something that would cost them nothing, but which could be seen as a gesture of apology.

It better not be the end!

PlayStation Network is the only thing that's even close to calling itself competition to Xbox Live.
If it collapses, there will be no incentive on Microsoft's part for my dream of a free(or at least cheaper) XBL. I know, that will probably never happen. But with PSN existing, a man can dream.

Um, last time I checked Sony didn't rely on PS3 sales exclusively. They make a lot of products.

Everyone seems to have forgotten the cluster fuck that was the first generation of 360's.

This.
I mean, if BP can get away with their fiasco in the gulf, and facebook can get away with changing the priva... you know, every evil/creepy corporate thing Facebook does, Sony's fine.

There is reason to be upset over the security breach, but nowhere near the sort of backlash you're talking. Simply proposing the idea that Sony could break from this is simply breeding uninformed doubt along the lines of "Where's the birth certificate?"

They'll be ok in the end. Yeah this whole situation sucks for them (and PS3 owners overall) but I highly doubt they'll leave the console race. And I know some people are saying that if they do leave the race someone else will just take their place and here's my opinion on what I've heard some people saying.

Sega: If they did get back into the race I wouldn't mind and would actually be a little pleased, but given how they've been for the past decade I highly doubt they would go back to making their own consoles now.

Atari: Come guys, people stopped caring about Atari consoles after the 2600, do you really think they of all people will try to enter the console race again?

No, if there is a new contestant in the console race, my money is on a company who hasn't made a console before.
