Sony isn't going anywhere. They're just not doing as well as they would have been had this never happened and it will probably take a little time for them to recover. This isn't the end of the world, it's just kind of what happens in a market society. Sometimes business do well, sometimes they have a disaster and have to recoup some losses, but a giant of this size is invariably going to bounce back.

Um, last time I checked Sony didn't rely on PS3 sales exclusively. They make a lot of products.

No, this isn't the end of Sony or the Playstation brand. If Microsoft was able to keep the xbox 360 going strong even after all the bullshit that happened with the red ring of death (2 of my consoles died because of it), Sony can get through this.
Everyone seems to have forgotten the cluster fuck that was the first generation of 360's.
But didn't that just boost 360 sales in the end?

PS3 is only one product from Sony. It's a big corporation and only a small amount is dedicated to gaming.

If this big class action gains momentum and Sony loses out, its entirely possible that Sony could pull the plug on the entire division.

Goodbye Sony Entertainment.

i see people comparing the sony thing with 360's red ring..it isn't the same, the red ring didn't lose peoples CC's and put them at risk of identity theft.

SONY isnt really hurt, and will recover.

SONY ENTERTAINMENT OF AMERICA (or whatever its called) has taken a drastic hit, but I suspect will recover. Sony has more then enough fans, and consideration = speculation =/= certainty. I could speculate or consider that 2+2=5, but thats obviously not certain.

So yeah, they'll be fine. They'll strengthen security, they'll release a better system, and all will be well, and anyone who hasnt bothered to do anything preventitive at this point fully deserves whatever woes fall upon them.

On the Battleship Sony:
Sailor: CAPTAIN! We just got hit!
Captain: What hit us?
Sailor: A bullet! It was a big one!
Captain: How big sailor?
Sailor: A 9mm sir!

This is what I see from this. Sony is right now taking out the welder and is plugging that leak. Seriously guys, do you know what Sony does completely? Let me tell you what Sony sells off the top of my head:
PS3
TV
Radio
Headphones
Sound Systems
Stereos
Batteries
Computers
Software
Films
Music

Sony kind of has their shit sorted out. Now if you excuse me, I have to hit the head.

There already was a thread about this. This was my theory, theoretically speaking of course.

If Sony's games department disappears (wich I really really doubt will happen). I would predict that the majority of western gamers and third party developers will move to the XBox, while the Japanese third parties and gamers will switch to Nintendo. Microsoft would seize the western style game market and Nintendo would get eastern style games. For example, for western FPS, you'd buy a microsoft console, for JRPGs you'd buy the Nintendo one. There'd be little competition since western and eastern style games are kinda different markets. There'd basicaly be two monopolies. This is all in theory though, as Sony's not giving up.

Why are people even considering the possibility that Sony will fail because of this? Perhaps their gaming division, but not Sony as a whole.

Let's consider this scenario:

The same shit that happened to Sony happens to Xbox Live. Will Microsoft fail? No. Fuck no. Fuck no with a capital "FUCK".

Quit postulating about Sony as a company going under because of this. That just ain't happening.

[HEADING=1]APPLE[/HEADING]
oh god, thats a scary thought.
How would that be scary? Knowing Apple they would make it the ultimate system! 1080p, Full iTunes support, Surround capable, Blu-ray.[sub]Thinking of this is making me excited[sub] and slightly aroused...[/sub][/sub] And no Shitty motion controls. They know better.

We all know the PC is the best. ever. No console can match the computer.
I beg to differ
And why would that be?
Just becase a PC has some good games its mainly a indi market, but games on Consoles do run smoother without needing a update, defrag or other matince for the player to do. PC games are great but yet the only thing that iv seen(for right now im geting a new laptop monday) was Crysis but that was more of a trile by fire if the PC didnt melt its insides
No, the market has never been better. Consoles rely on the AAA market, but the PC varies greatly. Steam itself only multiplied the success and variety tenfold.
Yeah but thats the thing the games you hear of are AAA titles on Pc too the others are indey games or some B game a company sliped out secretly
Yet AAA games are dying. It wont be long before its completely unsustainable.
The main reason AA games are dieing is because gameing companys like Actovion is keeping its in the safe boundreys of puting alot of money into the same game they made 10 times with updated grafics and bla bla bla atlest bunjie told there story stoped and is now starting something new and epic is doing the same with people can fly with the game bullet storm and there own game Gears is finley finishing up with the 3rd game.

Sega
I like the way you think. I don't really agree, but I really like it.
Sega and Apple can get together and make a SUPERCONSOLE!

Just imagine playing all your favorite Sega franchises [sub]Panser Dragoon! Shenmue! Sonic! JET SET RADIO![/sub] on the greatest machine ever built!

PS- This is my face right now: X_X. I have fainted in excitement.

[sub]I know this is a pipe dream and has almost no chance in hell of happening, but still..[/sub]
Nah, I dislike Apple. Their products are usually vastly over-priced, and not really as powerful as they could be. Compared to a custom-built machine.
Maybe, but peep this, daddy-o! When we cop one of those hypothetical lean, mean, gaming machines we'll be hip! cool! original! We can grow ironic beards! Take that shit to Starbucks and everyone'll know we're too cool for preschool!
We can even use all the phrases from the Mac Owner's Handbook:

"My console won't get a virus"
"Do you have a vegan-only menu?"
"Do you have any jeans skinnier than this?"
"My head appears to have inflated to monstrous proportions, call an ambulance!"

I Can't Wait!

I know you'll always be able to buy a Sony TV, or microwave, or robot hooker, the general question was is this the end of Sony (making the Playstation and being a Juggernaut)? The PSN is a clusterfuck, if it comes back, will anyone trust it?

and a 24Billion loss is quite a bit for ONE facet of a company, would it be totally out of left field to shut it down rather than poor more work and cash into fixing it?

I laughed, well played.

I wonder whether an Apple console would be successful? I could imagine a flop.

I've been trying to find a clever way if changing 'ego' to 'iGo', but it's remained consistently lame.
I don't know, they'd definitely have the edge in the features category, but third-party support is the most important aspect of a new console, and I doubt many studios would drop everything too produce AAA titles on a console they have no prior experience with.

Then again, this whole thing depends on Sony failing.

Also, I just thought of iiGo, would that work?

So, with this whole mess coming to light over the last little bit, how does everyone think Sony will, if at all, recover from this? are we looking at the end of Sony, or, at least the Playstation aspect of it?

And if this is the end of Playstation, what do you all think is in the future for console gaming and production?
Sony still have their fancy electronics. I should know with my Sony 40 inch HDD TV right across me.

Sony can recover, but the PS3 and the PSN? It's just reasonable to give up on them right now. They have been hit so fucking hard.

Scrap it. The PS3 is dead, and PSN have proven to be the worst service up to date.
(I'm saying this because when you are responsible for 70 million accounts, you just don't fuck up. Especially not all of it.)
Scrapping the PS3 and PSN right now would tarnish their name in all markets. Consumer confidence in their 40 inch HDD tvs would drop instantly. Why would anyone want to buy their expensive products if they fail to support them? The majority of PS3 owners would never buy a Sony item again if they scrapped the PS3.
