The end of the world...how do you think it will end?

The end of the world, Earth, itself will probably be in 2 billion years when it explodes violently, as celestial bodies are prone to do.

That's only if they're big enough to do so. The Earth will probably just freeze while orbiting the white dwarf that Sol will become.

You're right, I made a mistake. I meant to say that the sun would blow up (one can always hope, right?) thus decimating Earth to the face. Not that earth would explode.

That sounds about right. Eventually, the sun is going to turn into a red giant and push the Earth to a farther orbit before going nova. That would certainly be destructive, but it's far more likely that we'd already be dead. If anything, maybe the Earth will be set adrift when the sun collapses into a dwarf star...though I'm not familiar enough with astronomy to guess (the Earth might still continue to orbit).

That would be awesome. The sun explodes, not destroying the lifeless Earth but pushing it outward until it collides with another planet... Perhaps creating the conditions needed for life?

If that was a movie I would watch it. The first hour the surviving humans (it's a movie, remember) are all like "we must save ourselves!" Then they all die, ha, and the earth collides with another planet and bacteria appears. YES. Someone needs to make that.

I'm not a doomsday believer. I don't believe the world will end in 2012 "but" it is an interesting thing to think about. The end of civilized man as we know it, how will it happen? I believe these three scenarios are the most likely.

1). Nuculer war
2). Sickness or biological war fair.
3). Resource exaustion via over population

Either way I think we will destroy ouselves in the end. What do you think?

1. Plague ravages the Earth; all humanity extinct (very likely)
2. Exploding sun; we don't have the technology to create long-term planetary colonies before the sun explodes (very unlikely)
3. We survive everything the universe throws at us; we don't ever go extinct until we evolve into a new species. (unlikely)
4. Something out of our control causes mass death by all species (evil aliens? blackholes?) (likely)

You know I never thought of the real posssibility of an alien life form wipeing us out and with such a rich resource planet and ideal climate I could easily see a higher intelligence brushing us off an other wise ideal world to inhabit.
