Just a refresher, as some people just aren't trying.

There = At, in or to a position. "Prison? I've been there."

Their = Belonging or relating. "Peter and Jane dumped their grandpa at the old peoples' home."

They're = Contraction of "they are"; as in "The waxworks! They're blinking!"

Also...

Your = Belonging to you. "Congratulations. Your second murder in thirty days officially makes you a serial killer."

You're = Contraction of "you are"; as in "You're never going to fit that grapefruit in there."

OK, you've effectively pointed out you are the grammar gestapo. Nice job.

Bravo. But you realise what's more likely to happen is a load of flamers deliberately utilising bad grammar.

Enough to make your head 'asplode.'

If they couldn't understand this in school, why would they understand it now?

Shouldn't everyone learn this when they are in primary school?

I might keep this thread and send it to people who don't understand

Actually a quick question, can you tell me the difference between affect and effect, I've never understood it

I was hoping for an intelligent debate about the English Language, but instead it's a reminder of how i should spell my words.

I'm not to fussed about minor spelling or grammatical errors, so long as its readable I'm fine with it. Language is something that is constantly changing and evolving anyway.

Wow...a free lesson in grammar? This should happen every Monday.

Still, most people know this, they just don't bother to check their spelling. Either that or they don't care.

I think when you "affect" something you interact with or change it, and the "effect" is what happens because you interacted and/or changed it.

You could always check Wikitionary.

Dammit. I thought I was Greek for the last 18 years!!!!!
Thank you OP for clearing up that "There" isn't actually a Greek word!!!

Usually affect is used as a verb and effect as a noun.

Verb: To affect something is to have an effect on them. You don't effect things - though you may effect TO DO something.

Noun: An effect is an observable change in something. An affect is only used as a noun in psychology.

there was an image about this, but I don't have it, so I will interpret it through fixed-width text.

Code:
DO YOU SAY "I COULD CARE LESS"????? WELL, LET'S HAVE A LOOK
AT THE CARE-O-METRE AND SEE JUST HOW MUCH YOU REALLY CARE

CARE-O-METRE (handle with care)

|- MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF CARE. NO-ONE CARES THIS MUCH.

LEARN THE DIFFERENCE. MAKE A STAND
anyone who uses the phrase "could care less" instead of "couldn't care less" is terrible. I Sperg About Grammar.
