Usually affect is used as a verb and effect as a noun.

Verb: To affect something is to have an effect on them. You don't effect things - though you may effect TO DO something.

Noun: An effect is an observable change in something. An affect is only used as a noun in psychology.
That makes sense, thank you.

Sounds like you should be studying Linguistics or English. If you aren't, then you should be :)

anyone who uses the phrase "could care less" instead of "couldn't care less" is terrible. I Sperg About Grammar.
I fully agree.

Bizarrely, I've also seen people used the word "addicting", presumably instead of addictive. "Addicting" is not a word.

Yeah, I've seen that. It's always fun hearing again, though. And I can read that perfectly.

Their are many peoples that make this mistakes. I hope the idiot learn proper grammer.

Seriously, why did we need a thread to tell us this? The only people that make these mistakes are those that don't care about grammar.

Just where are you trying to stick your grapefruit?

Anyway it could be nice to have a reminder of these things, but the people that care already know for the most part, and the people that don't care are not going to bother.

Sadly, manaman, I think you may be right.

In answer to your question, the grapefruit is going INTO THE ARSE of the next person to make an ironic joke using deliberately poor grammar.

it's the internet, not spelling class give us a break...in a world were probably over 80% of kids/younger adults are constantly texting their brains out...we live in a world of bad grammar and apostrophes for everything... you should know this by now...
(ps: i just want to say i'm one of the kids that don't text, cause i dont even own a cell phone)

The fact this thread was necessary reminds me how crap people are when it comes to good spelling and grammar - *sighs*

Wow...a free lesson in grammar? This should happen every Monday.

Still, most people know this, they just don't bother to check their spelling. Either that or they don't care.

I might keep this thread and send it to people who don't understand

Actually a quick question, can you tell me the difference between affect and effect, I've never understood it
I think when you "affect" something you interact with or change it, and the "effect" is what happens because you interacted and/or changed it.

You could always check Wikitionary.
Thanks, I never really 100% understood the difference either.

If you stab someone and play games sometimes, then games have obviously affected you.

If the Media reports it, which they blatantly will, then the headline will be GAMING HAS A MADDENING EFFECT ON YOUR CHILDREN! ZOMG!
I'm sorry but, wut? I have a feeling you may have posted this in the wrong topic. This is about grammar, the video game obscenity thread is two blocks over

Yes, 'affect' is manipulation, and 'effect' is the result of said manipulation
