I just got here, but I love that everyone has at LEAST decent grammar. When I go to Gametrailers the grammar brings shivers down my spine. It's bad.

I pasted that into Word hoping I could correct you on something just to be a prick, I didn't find anything, congratulations.
There are a few things, but pointing them out would be stupid and cruel. I'd also like to insinuate that Word is not the best way to go; a true Grammarian Chieftain knows when Word is wrong.
My apologies Kommandment, I will work all the more next time.

Pasting into Word won't allow you to find the two errors in his post (or at least what I see), and that is:

If you can; Try to post 1 thing you will do to improve your grammar on the forums.

I Pimppeter2 do solemnly swear to always write my posts on MS word before I post.
First one being that he used "1" rather than "one". You always write/type out the numbers zero through ten, and then post actual numbers when you get to 11 or more.

Second is that he should of said "I, Pimppeter2, do solemnly". He is missing the two commas.

Spell checker only does what it says, and that is SPELLING. There is more to grammar than spelling.

Uhh dude, you do realise that grammar nazi's fall into a similar hate league as 4chan trolls right?

that's part of why they are called Grammer NAZIS. The hate aspect of it, not just the strict intolerance.

I agree if you are doing a review, newspost or something of similar importance then sure make it as clean as possible, immacculate if you can.

But for regular posts and commenting on issues or posting of opinions, complaining about someone else's grammar (within reason) is just acting like a dick with nothing better to do really.

Extra points if you can count how many grammar issues are in this post.
I count five. How many points do I get? Just kidding *grins*.

But I while I agree that having good grammar is important when communicating through written words, it's important to have at least some tolerance to those who are young and don't know any better. Although, there are those who confuse their, they're and there. They should hang.

I could care less about that. [/sarcasm]

I hate both of these sayings so very much.
it hurts, i know. irregardless is my biggest pet peeve of which im aware. Think how horrible they are combined...

IRREGARDLESS OF YOURE FEELINGS ABOUT THIS, I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THAT.

Another thing I hate is when people are giving a presentation and they say "clearly the data show that..."

well, if its so clear why do you even have to say anything about it? BECAUSE ITS NOT CLEAR!

A) your boss you presenting to usually hasn't a clue what you are presenting about.
B) those same bosses enjoy hearing the numbers broken down so they can check it as you are presenting
C) to pad out your presentation for time if you are a little short on content.

Fixed, by the way; I think I make spelling mistakes more often than grammar ones. Also, I believe it is easier to read a post on MS word rather than just off the site

I'm not doing the presenting, Im doing the listening, and zero information content words are a waste of time. If you have to say "Clearly, this figure shows..." and its not clear to someone, you just insulted your audience, because if it isn't clear, they feel stupid for not getting it. Don't insult your audience, don't say things like "clearly" or "obviously" when presenting.

As a scientist, I don't have any sympathy for people who have to pad their presentations, as I could be doing more valuable and productive things at a conference. like getting my third coffee.

I'm encouraging you to tell us something that you pledge to do in your posting that will make your posts more grammatically correct. This will not only make your grammar better, but will make the escapist a better place to post
Uh, well, my posts are already grammatically correct, aside from the occasional run-on sentence that I use knowingly. Hum. I guess I'll pledge to keep doing so... though I still don't see much merit in this topic. Grammar isn't something that comes overnight. Some people still can't see where apostrophes are used (for example, someone said 'grammar nazi's', even though there was no possession involved), and they've been speaking English for a very long time.

I'll continue to use proper spelling, grammar (especially run on sentences), are still a weak point of mine I will eventually either overcome or succumb to.

I've been to the Escapist long enough to know that bad grammar/spelling is not tolerated by the more "elite" escapists.

Since I have been here I have slowly noticed myself correcting my grammar/spelling and reediting my posts more than I had ever before. For example; When I joined here I would never capitalize my i's. Now it pisses me off when people don't.

To wrap this back to the original topic, I have seen way more people ***** about Grammar Nazis than ever before. These people are usually in the 200-700 post count and they usually say this to new members.

Escapians! Do not lower your standards! I mean I saw someone on the User Reviews just a second ago say to a horrid reviewer not to worry about the Grammar Nazis because they're everywhere!! A review should be very clean!!

Escapians, we cannot, and will not lower our standards! Sure, some Grammar Nazis are kind of annoying but don't tell me they're worse than those who post "i heart teh PS3 because xboxx is 4 suxxors and M$ is devals"

As to the pledge part of this topic. If you can; Try to post one thing you will do to improve your grammar on the forums. Whether it be capitalize all your i's or to never use all CAP locks again.

I, Pimppeter2, do solemnly swear to always write my posts on MS word before I post.

Let's hear some of yours, Escapists.

[Thunderous roar]
Fixed. I left the lowercase Is the way they were, as I figured they were typed that way on purpose.
I'm thinking I have pretty spot-on spelling and grammar, and I'm going to continue my proper use of the English language.

We are Escapians now? Sweet.

I think of Grammar Nazis the same way I think of the law enforcment. I don't like them but things would probobly turn to shit without them, so I tolerate them.

I, the undersigned, do solemnly swear to uphold the styles and laws of the English language as well as I can. I promise to uphold these styles and laws to the best of my abilities, telling others how they can correct their own usage, without sounding condescending or rude.
