Mine is the same as my PSN avatar, cos I'm lame and really like Origami dogs. :p (I'm sure I'll see something and be like, I HAVE TO CHANGE IT NOW! :O )
I am very much the same way and ever since I've learned how to make gifs I see something somewhere and I think of how cool it would be to have that as my avatar and then I make it. I've gone through so many avatars I think I've gone through about 40 different avatars easily >.>

I have a few people but I really enjoy talking to new folk (especially from this site since everyone is very awesome) but I always feel awkward about just PMing someone and trying to make a connection.
I know what you mean. I don't know anyone else on the escapist, so I don't really talk to anyone besides via the forums.

I wouldn't mind being part of a pen pal thing, but I'd be kinda nervous giving my address to random people online. Not that you all aren't delightful people who wouldn't harm a fly, but I like my anonymity. I'd enjoy being email pals or PM pals, though.

We wouldn't steal...much. >_>
The Escapist has a pretty diverse userbase, so snail mail would be impossible for most of us. I was thinking E-Mail was a nice way to do it. :)

Of course you wouldn't steal much, there isn't much to steal.

Email seems like it would be the easiest and safest overall.

Sure, I wouldn't mind being PMed. Always nice to meet new escapists :) Also, you guys should probably start snipping those quotes, as some people's internet will probably be suffering soon :D

I wouldn't mind having a pen pal. I would especially enjoy an artist friend I could collaborate with via mail.

Yeah, why not? I've thought about getting a pen-pal for a while now. Anyone want to give it a go, just PM. As for nationality and age, 17 and British. Well, Welsh, but it's essentially he same.

Well, it depends on the recipient. Can be hit and miss most of the time. I personally don't since I stick to the forums most (occasionally wander into the usergroups), but I have a general habit of sending a PM to people who friend me, more out of geniality, I guess. And if they were intrigued enough in me to friend me then it's a good chance to start a PM conversation.

Sounds good to me. I'd prefer PMs though, since I haven't checked my email in months and am liable to completely forget everything mid-conversation.

I think it's a good idea, Might I suggest setting up a group of 'penpals' so it would be easier to keep track of?

I'm canadian

and yeah, PM would be easier for me too since I'm way too lazy to send any snail mail.

Part of me says it's an interesting idea, and the other part says "OH GOD PEOPLE I DON'T KNOW HOW DO I TALK WITH THEM"...

But I suppose I like the concept. PMs only though.

It's a good idea OP but i think your idea needs some structure- how about we fill out a few key details about ourselves in this kind of manner?

One could follow my example here:

Age: 21
Nationality: British
Education Level: University (Lancaster University)
Jobs/Careers: Tour Guiding, student newspaper editor
Interests/Sports and Hobbies: history, politics, comedy, foreign cultures, reading (gaming is a given one here really isn't it?) anime, alcoholic beverages, foreign languages and creative writing.

Any other relevant information:

Would happily hear from any UK Escapists applying for university in this country seeking advise about university life, or anyone from anywhere wanting to discuss UK/European politics and culture.

Nice idea actually. Since I've been on a break, a lot of the people I used to talk to have moved on or have that pesky "real life" thing keeping them away from this place.
I'd gladly do snail mail but I'd have to sell organs or something to afford the postage. :p
PMing is good too though, good idea, sir!

...Though thanks to that quote storm up there, I have this stuck in my head...

I had a pen-pal in England when I was still in elementary school, he got hit by a bus and died.

Anyway... Sounds like an entertaining idea.

Hello there, friends!

I've noticed that I hardly ever get good stuff in E-Mail or via snail-mail and was kind of reminiscing about the days of having a pen-pal in grade school.

So, anyone else craving this sort of thing? Of course since we're of various nationalities it would be to be of via E-Mail/PM but I still think it'd be pretty awesome.

(There is PM, but I hardly PM someone randomly)
What stops us from sending snail mails just because we're from different countries?
I mean it takes like 3-5 days to ship a package from Finland to Italy or England so snail mail shouldn't be any longer than that right?

I personally never had a snail mail pal during my early school years, was close to getting one but the teamwork between schools was delayed.

Via E-mail sounds fun.

Can't afford the 1st class postage hike to 60p come end of the month. Fuck da government.
