The benefits are definitely worth it. Besides, if you just close your eyes and let 'em finish, it's not nearly as bad. Even if you don't stick around forever, you'll learn a valuable skill you can take with you and get a job just about anywhere. My advice to those who take this route: invest in a decent pair of kneepads. The benefits don't cover knee injuries related to "getting paid".brice85 post=6.72855.781438 said:Chris Slack already covered this in the video. Company benefits here are amazing.Poyer post=6.72855.781382 said:What does the escapist content deal entail exactly? just fame? or is money involved?

We're primarily looking for talented video creators. Individuals, groups or other. The details of the potential contract arrangement are a bridge we'll cross later.Braininator post=6.72855.783474 said:1. Are you primarily looking to give a contract to an individual, or would you hire a partnership or trio?
If you're reviewing a game or parodying it in some way, you're fairly safe using reasonable amounts of in-game footage. The definition of "reasonable" however, is what legal scholars have been arguing over for years. It's a very grey area, and subject to interpretation, but if we have an objection on those grounds we'll try to give you a chance to revise your video before we judge it.Where does using in-game footage (captured directly from the game or recorder on a camera) stand in terms of it being copyrighted material? Does the fair use policy kick in anywhere?
No. But it'd be helpful if your video was interesting to folks who are also interested in games.Scypemonk post=6.72855.784632 said:1 - Does everything have to be strictly gaming related.
Try to avoid swearing or lewdness, please. You're not Yahtzee. Yet.MattyboyJ post=6.72855.784662 said:Whats the standpoint on swearing? I know Yahtzee does it quite a lot, and like his, mine is intended to be purposeful in showing emotion, mainly pissed-offedness.
The simple answer is that we'll retain non-exclusive rights to all videos submitted to us to use for promotional purposes, etc. Meaning, if you do not win the contest, we will retain rights to use your video in various ways to promote our site or the contest, but you may also re-publish the video somewhere else if you like. So, while we retain some rights to use your video, you retain all rights to use it anywhere else, however you see fit up to entering into an exclusive use arrangment with another site.GameUJosh post=6.72855.784943 said:Quick question about one part of the "Legal Stuff" that is worrisome. The part that states "Entrants surrender copyright and all interests therein of their submissions to The Escapist with the understanding that the materials may be used for promotional purposes." Does this apply just to the winning video, or to all entries that are submitted?
Damn my illusions are shattered. Hmm altho it has given me a slightly funnier idea now, cheers RussRuss Pitts post=6.72855.785185 said:Try to avoid swearing or lewdness, please. You're not Yahtzee.
