So I've been a member of the escapist for not even two days yet, have made a grand total of one forum post, and I've got to say...pretty nice. I've had experiences with other gaming websites and their respective communities and I'd just like to compare them. I don't know if this is the right forum thread for this topic but it seemed to fit better here than anywhere else.
So I'd like to start off with the first gaming community I ever joined: Roosterteeth. Some may argue that Roosterteeth isn't a true gaming site, but more of a machinima website. My response to that would be: close enough.
For those of you unfamiliar with Roosterteeth, they make Red vs. Blue. If you don't know what that is, stop reading this right now and go check it out. Are you back now? You say you're going to shut yourself into your home until you've finished every last episode of Red vs. Blue? I thought you'd say that. Red vs. Blue is the only real reason I joined Roosterteeth and I have no real problems with the community, I'd just like to say this: Roosterteeth is like a gaming Facebook. Since none of my real life friends have accounts with Roosterteeth, and because I happen to be a hopeless introvert on the edge of society, I didn't enjoy the experience quite so much.
My second brush with an online community is with Screwattack. Screwattack is a cool gaming website with lots of features, most notably the angry video game nerd. I joined the website and wrote a pair of game reviews, on the Prince of Persia and Fallout 3. (If you want to check them out go to gigamesh's blog on www.screwattack.com ) They weren't super reviews and I'll be the first to admit that, but they didn't get much attention. They pretty much had like 2 comments and 20 some views. Now I didn't expect much but this is from a big community that display's every new blog post on the main web page. You may not think this is a big thing or that I'm an attention-grabbing, self-centered jerk. You're probably right.
The reason now I think this is more important is because my first ever forum post on the escapist got 2 comments in the first ten seconds after I posted it and now there's a lively discussion on the comment page. Keep in mind that was yesterday evening I posted that. I'd have to say for gaming communities the escapist has one of the best. I'm not saying Roosterteeth or Screwattack are bad, quite the opposite in fact. I'm just saying that I've found the escapist to be my website of choice and I hope it stays that way.
Notes: If you want to look at my profiles on Roosterteeth and Screwattack, my username is Gigamesh on both websites. (My passwords the same to if you want to try and guess)
If you think I'm a jerk I can't make you feel better and if I've insulted you in there some how I'm sorry, it was unintentional.
Cheers
