Probably going to get some flak for this but oh well...

This is easily my feel good song. I haven't been able to stop listening to it since it came out. Probably because it reminds me of his work in Gnarls Barkley. Still, very catchy.

My choice for song of the year is a three-way tie, and two of those songs are from the same album.

The other one is a complete gear-change, and it's this:

I was never a fan of Gnarls Barkley or any of the stuff he did before, but damn if this isn't one of the most genius songs I've ever heard. The video is all kinds of awesome too.

I don't know whether this says more about David Ford or the rest of the music that's been released since, but the fact is my album of the year ('Let The Hard Times Roll' by the aforementioned Ford) and two joint-favourite songs of the year have been set in stone since the beginning of February. I want so badly for him to get the success and worldwide fame that he deserves, because I genuinely believe he's among the greatest songwriters of our generation and, on a personal level, he's always got so much time for his fans and is one of the nicest people you could ever meet.

You are absolutely right, no one posting in this thread is going to agree with you on those song choices, because you've collated a collection of songs that almost anyone else who posts on these forums would only submit to a "best songs of [insert year]" thread if they were dead set on being an obvious troll; those are all widely considered to be terrible and devoid of merit by our fellow internet pundits. I've never even seen anyone mention Die Antwoord except to marvel at just how staggeringly awful they are, or be embarrassed on the behalf of the country they originate from, issuing apologetic statements on its behalf.

At least with anyone else I could be reasonably assured they were joking, but when you say stuff like that it's scary, and makes me cherish the fact that none of those things intersect with my life outside of people on the internet complaining about them; the most annoying musical habit I have to put up with is a parent with an unhealthy (read: any sort of) obsession with Barry Manilow. I am truly blessed.
I deliberately gave details about why I like each of these songs so doubters would know that I wasn't trolling, but my like of these groups (in paricluar the first two) is well-documented on this site anyway.

You bring up an interesting and very correct point, which is that the tastes of the average tech-savvy netizen are typically far, far divorced from what people in the real world actually like. The fact is, people do like this stuff. If there's one thing that all four of the bands I linked have in common besides the fact that I like them and that many other Escapists don't/won't, it's that they're all extremely popular and hot in marketplace right now, even despite the large amount of unfavourable press etc. I'll leave you to speculate on why that is, but I assure you that the usual cynical reasons people trot out (marketing, auto-tune, payola) are often far less true than the simple fact that a lot of people like what they hear. Die Antwoord is playing a big festival where I live soon and no-one here apart from Internet haters even knows who the fuck they are...

I actually feel like I should add a few to my last post, since I've literally just now discovered the brilliance that is Hurts. Been meaning to listen to them for ages after hearing great things, but it's only now that I've gotten around to doing so. Think of synthpop, but then add a more orchestral and clasical feel, and that's Hurts for you.

Here's just one example of their work:

Hands down, no doubt about it.

Pretty obvious, when you think about the thread title.
Hear hear, I second that.

Candidate no. 2:

I thir- No, second that too.

Overall, judging from what little I heard this year (these two, basically), 2010 was a pretty good year.
Yes these were quite good.

There was also one more song that was made for the Valve vs Zanga in March Madness. I do not remember the name of the member who did the song but I am pretty sure it started with a J

these are the ones i enjoyed the most in 2010 at clubs/festivals

other music genres didnt deliver this year, the only decent songs i've seen in this thread would be the ones from Cee Lo Green, Gorillaz and Pendulum thus far.

I am too stupid to know how to embed videos. The song is Anamanaguchi's "Airbrushed". I tend to think of albums of the year as opposed to songs, and since this was a single, I can rest easy about that =)
