Not even trying to troll here, but can you explain to me what's so fun about Eve?

Mining, killing ships by clicking on them and let everything autofire and trading? I honestly did not see the point in that game. I really liked the concept of one huge space world.. but I either missed out on something or I just don't like it.
I like EVE mainly cause it's not as limiting as other MMORPG's, it allows for more extensive role-playing and it has a player-driven universe.

Now will you leave us EVE players alone in our dark corner and SOD OFF?

Well when I said mothership, I did not mean like right now lol.

Did I mention that drones suck major ass during a mission?(Quite literally, I took a mission in 1.0 space and a medium drone and a light drone took forever trying to kill a target and by that time they were sniping me with missles, or drilling my ship with a gatling-typish cannon.)

I am probably going to be starting up a membership this Christmas so see you guys soon. :)

I am going to be a droner by the way, so I am probably going to be a Gallente (best way to go, just dont get 15 charisma like I have). Motherships look too good... 25 drones...
Droner? I assume u mean Gallente :-D (Droner sounds like some kind of warhammer orc class). Hate to be a killjoy though, but it will take +/-2 years to get in a mothership unless ur very good at making isk :). Also u'll need an alt to fly it as once ur in it, ur trapt till u eject or blow up.
He could always downgrade to a carrier in Low-sec space, right?
Ehhh, nooot really... See, Titans and motherships have a minor problem in that they can't dock. Sooo, the only way to fly another ship instead of it, is to leave it floating in space. Which isn't a great idea. Oh, that and they can't go above low sec anyway. No cap ships in high sec. And possibly empire. I can't remember the specific rules.

And Erana, yeah. Just search for Escapist in the join group bit.

Actually drones are pretty useful when it comes to Missions... Especially higher level missions, say when you fly a Battlecruiser or Battleship, and run into a frigate. Drones will take the frig out, wheras large weapons will not, since they will have difficulties hitting the frig...

So...as a complete novice to EVE, I'm trying to decide what sort of ship to go with next (I'm focusing on mining at the moment).

I'm currently using a Bantam which is the Caldari frigate with the mining bonus. Should I go with industrial ships (much more cargo space, no ability to defend itself, only one mining laser slot) or save up and get an Osprey? (multiple turret slots, mining bonus, much smaller cargo hold).

Don't mind me crying as yet another missile whore joins the ranks. Osprey will get you more ore faster, but you'll need to pay more attention and warp more often. Plus, you'll be able to go into 0.5 and above and still remove the npc spawns cos you can defend yourself. Indies are leave it mining and go do something else, come back, change mining target, rinse and repeat. Less effort, but much slower.

Sounds like Osprey's the way for me to go then. Time to mine my ass off and make the 3 mil to buy one.

Jet can mining, if you can find a nice, empty system.

Mine with the osprey, then jettison when your hold is full. Then keep adding ore to the jet can until it's the same amount as your industrial's hold. Dock the osprey, then go to the can in the indy, and bring the ore back.

Best way IMO.

So, now I am curious about joining a player-run corp. I am not interested in mining for someone else to buy my minerals use it to build a ship and then kill me with it, so I tend to think of my character more as a combat pilot. I am also not completely lifeless and play a variety of other games so I don?t have the endless hours that a hard-core gamer has to offer but I like to play(blow stuff up).

So the question is what corp should I look into joining?

Till someone like me comes along, nicks it, then blows you up for good measure when you try and get it back.

I'd say a Faction War corp, NPC or Player... Usually player FW corps can provide you with cheap ships to fight in, but requires slightly more of a time-investment than an NPC FW corp, whereas in a NPC FW corp, you have to pay for yourself, but it is slightly more casual.

A pirate corp that operates mainly in low-sec (0.1-0.4) is your best place to start. You might have to start with lower quality corps first if you don't have that much to offer to the elite ones.

You could also try joining an academy corp that focus on teaching pilots combat skills, one that comes to mind is Agony Unleashed, not sure if they are still active as I no longer play EVE.

Don't join a corp based in 0.0 they demand a lot of time commitment from their members.

When it comes to corps though finding one thats the right fit can take time.

Hope that helps. PM me if you want more advice.

EDIT: Poster above just reminded me about the Faction Warfare corps, they are also a good choice.

I'm still waiting for someone to develop an EVE on Earth kind of game. I love the concept of what basically amounts to a massively-multiplayer trade sim, but I just can't get behind the space theme. Give me something like Patrician Online with a player-driven economy and I'm there.

Eh, I guess they only like to kill my drones.(I.E I am still moving up and my drones get a hissy fit and fly off into space to kills hit. )

You know what will be awesome about a mothership though? I will be my own fleet. Of drones that is.

Eve University is a good place to start. Having a stint with them looks good in your corporation history when you apply to any of the other player corporations out there, even pirates.

Osprey. It used to be that you would go bantum, osprey, brutix, apocalypse for mining. Now id say its bantum, osprey, maybe brutix or just skip ahead to get retriever, coveter & then the mighty mighty hulk. I personally find mining about as fun as rubbing a cheese grater across my face though (though for some reason I bothered to skill up to fly a coveter...& indeed when was a newish player mined for almost 10hours once with corp), so cant be more helpful then that. Depends if ur just mining to make isk to do more efficient mining or mining to fund other activities.

Also. Everyone should join one of the empire militias. FW is in danger of getting stale. It needs more fresh meat for the grinder :-D

Hmmm, may just have to find where my steam account went and join up. Truth be told I haven't played in about 6 months (due to RL stuff n other random junk) so would be sweet to help get back in the flow and find myself a new corp to tag up with, just have to wait til after new years. In meantime, I get to sit back and wait while I lose more training time... hah.

Hmm, what's FW all like? empire only or some lowsec?(Gallente pilot if relevant) Empyrean Age came out a bit after I began my leave(and another expansion as well... gone too long) so curious to see how it is now, along with any major changes during then.

Really lowsec only now. Used to be gangs flying around enemy highsec but that kinda stopped happening sadly. It seems to have lost alot of its momentum tbh. I cant actively play atm so havent flown about in a couple months. But from what I read/hear it seems to have settled into a routine of newbblob forms at EU primetime n goes camps a key lowsec FW entry system (Old Man Star or Tama normally) & otherwise its just lots of smallscale/solo flying around. The caputing systems part of it seems to have lost all momentum. I think after 6months without any reward mechanism being implemented people have just given up on that front, especially since they made system capping harder. Plexes still make good points for a fight though. In effect FWs become quite a decent place to go if u like solo/small gang stuff. Dont mind being locked out of 2 empires highsec & fancy the extra 'free' targets.
