The video actually ends at the credits, just an editing whoopsie.

Anyone here into Folding? Join the Escapist folding team (171286). If you have no clue what I'm talking about, read this shameless cut and paste from the hardware thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.105715].

Want a way to take advantage of your swanky PC/PS3 while you aren't gaming?

Join the Escapist Folding@Home [http://folding.stanford.edu/] team!(Folding@Escapist)
Team#: 171286

What is Folding @ Home?

Folding at Home is a distributed computing project for the simulation of protein synthesis.

What the hell does that mean?

It's for science!

Folding at Home takes advantage of the unused power of your computer (and thousands of others) for medically-applicable biological research. A group at Stanford, with grants and support from the National Institutes of Health and several major tech companies, set up a system to run complicated protein simulations on other people's computers to do computer-intensive medical research. This research may be applicable to the treatment of a number of diseases, including Mad Cow, Alzheimer's, and many cancers.

How do I get started?
It's easy. Go here [http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download], select the appropriate client for your operating system, download, and install. Your computer will be folding proteins in less time than it takes to fall asleep in organic chemistry.

If you have a fancy-schmancy video card(GeForce 8xxx, 9xxx, or GT2xx, Radeon HD), it can help you fold even faster. You need to use a special (Windows-only) client, though. Get it here [http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther].

PS3 owners can even get in on the fun. Point at least one of your 7 processors this way [http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download] and grab the PS3 client from the bottom. Yeah, you don't get to play Halo, but 360 owners don't get to cure cancer!

What's all this about a team?

The team bit is just a way to log folding work done by its members. It's totally optional, but lets us log the power Escapists have directed to a good cause.

It's easy to join. Just enter the Escapist team number 171286 at setup or in the "Configure" menu.

I might actually consider shifting my PC from the Steam Powered Forums folding team to The Escapist's team now. Thanks for the announcement.
Excellent. We're now 3 strong :D

I have added the team number, but I wont be leaving my PC running it too much as I worry about the heat the GPU generated (even though its got lots of fans attached, modern GPUs are REALLY hot!).

Every little bit helps. At least you can sell your heater and fold all winter to keep warm :D

Edit: When's the next TF2 melee night? I'm looking forward to abusing chain medics.

There are some good deals over the weekend at Direct2Drive [http://www.direct2drive.com/d2dturns5]. Saint's Row 2 is $5, and it activates on Steam. I've heard it's glitchy, but I'll risk the price of a sandvich to check for myself.

[HEADING=2]Melee Night Rules.[/HEADING]
Well, it's melee night tonight if you didn't already know, so here's a pre-emptive strike at all those questions people are bound to ask. Anyway, here we go:
1. Most obviously, melee weapons only.

1a. However, medics can use their medigun. They can also ubercharge or kritz their target.

1b. Engineers may build anything bar a sentry gun.

1c. Pyros may use airblast.

1d. Spies may use anything bar the revolver or ambassador.

1e. Scouts may use sandman.

1f. Snipers may use jarate.

1g. Heavies can drop sandviches.

2. Don't be an ass.

3. If the teams are unbalanced, please change to even them out.

4. Try not to spam the microphone too much. Having a conversation is fine, as is the odd rage-induced scream. However, should you completely block anyone else's communication for any length of time don't be surprised if you're muted.

5. Do not speak on behalf of the admins.

6. Admins have the final say.

7: Don't scream at the admin to kick someone or change map or hurry up, we have to wade through a menu and sometimes eat..

8: Don't drink the Jarate and don't take the pi$$.

Please comment on these, any and all feedback is appreciated.

On another, completely unrelated, note- I learned a valuable lesson today: Nutella is awesome!

Hey, I'm wondering if we could ever play something other than TF2? I mean, I like the game but I got bored of it a while back. Maybe something like CoD 4/WaW or some UT? I know the UT GOTYE is like, $2 right now on Steam.

The main problem with that is that we don't have our own servers for anything other than TF2. It makes it much harder to organise events (Especially things like melee night, which really require admins.) or get a decent sized escapist-only game going when anyone and everyone else is using the same server. Y'know?

Having said that, I know that The Escapist has a couple of idle servers left over from the competition, I also know that they have some plans for later this year/early next year in the way of gaming. I'll poke Kross and see what I can scrounge.

In the mean time, the steam groups are there and anyone can chat with anyone else to organise their own games. I'll think about making announcements a feature that all group members can use, but it seems too open to abuse, and the group chat is right there.

TF2 is also the biggest-subscribed game on the forums (According to the list numbers.), so more people are likely to have it, so the events are catering for more people. Many people still play and love it.

However, let's see what Christmas brings in the way of servers. Apparently the season to be jolly has started already- as evidenced by my city council considering the bright September sun the best time to start putting up the town Christmas lights.

Yeah, I realize that, but it gets a bit disappointing when everyone else is playing. Also, can I please ask for people to STOP ASKING ME to play L4D and TF2? Seriously, I can't tell you how many times I've been spammed with invites >.<
