when i see this is on BBC, Observer, Guardian or other properly reputable site (i.e one i have actually heard of) i will believe this. also as someone else said the law name and reference number, because all proposed laws are online these days, so a simple link to the plans would prove all.
I'm just waiting for Snopes to have it on their website, probably tomorrow.

As for the purpose of this, probably a DDoS attack on BlackOut itself.

If that happens, I'm going to move westwards.
Ah, so now the rubber band is on the other claw! You don't need America until the internet is censored.

(please note, that was half a joke, half a Futurama reference)
Oh god that was brilliant.

So, in the bottom, this will restrain the freedom of speech?

The german internet is already restricted...of course they only restricted the connections to sites with child pornography...and of course they won't restrict more sites in the future...

I'm really just straight up flabergasted at proposal such as this. While I don't live in Europe I think we can all agree that we expect our representatives in any government to have at least an ounce of common sense.

Is there a way for those in other countries, such as state-side, to get in touch with these people and tell them what a HUGE mistake they are making?

have you guys ever considered how pissed off Google will be at this? This means their main source of income is gonna be sliced.

ou could say the news agencies are in on it or just aren't informed but google would break the news fast as fuck if they felt their business was being stomped down upon. This is a major internet corporation i mean laws like this would end their business. Seems a little far out.

In sweden MPAA wanted to push a law that would censor torrent sites for swedish IPs, but as of now i think it looks like it will be rejected.

there's lots of conspiracy theories out there

*sigh* Yes, I know the site has gone down for some demented reason, that is why the second wall of text I posted a bit lower has more links. Also, more proof.

Package deals are really stupid.

Sky charges you for channels YOU GET FOR FREE! Freeview boxes give you extra channels like BBC news/Skynews/ITV2-4/skysports/CBBC and a few music channels, Freeview is built into most modern day TVs in preparation for the digital switchover.

Sky will still charge you for these channels, which I find really silly.

What I'm trying to say is simple. The internet if FREE(minus monthly charges). There is no point in charging us for something we get anyway. If this is about download limits. They need to improve their servers. We can't limit our internet use.

They need to meet consumer demands. The consumer should never meet the ISP's demands.

Well, I have no idea if this is true, but it sounds suspiciously like some kind of net neutrality (ISP can dictate what a person can see). It could be good for "spams" to become invisible. But it's not OK to force everyone into this scheme of internet. As long as there is a choice of "normal internet", I think it's OK. It's a slippery slope though.
If something like this does come up, it would be very interesting to make a service to bypass this website limit. I'm sure it will sell like hot cakes.

That's the thing, though: from what I get, the whole point is that the bill will force all EU ISPs to use some sort of service like they want. *shrugs*
