im so scared of driving i havent even started lesson yet even though im old enough

my main fear is that i dont know my left from my right off by heart (no really, i dont)
so if the instructor tells me to turn right chances are i could turn left by accident >_<
also the first time i was in a car i stalled it 3 times in a row before my mum yelled "alright get out! your killing my car!"

I used to be terrified of driving. But then several things happened: my doctor diagnosed me with anxiety, I found out I needed stronger lenses for my glasses, and I gained experience at driving. It gets a lot easier as time goes by. The less edgy you are, the safer you'll be to those around you.

..The thought of being in that confined space with someone who is there purely to judge your every move would always get my heart beating, my breath heavy and a cold sweat upon my brow...

...I crossed a traffic light that was about to turn red, it was the only safe option and although I knew this, I worried for a week that I would get a fine through my door and three points on my license...

...I live in the UK, and for the first two years, a driver is only allowed six points on their license before being disqualified from driving and having to take his test again...
First off, who cares what anyone else thinks? Just do things in the way you know how. You've been taught, and you passed your test for a reason. You're fit enough to drive! Who gives a fuck about how many attempts it took you. I come from a family of erroneous drivers myself and I passed 2nd time. Funny thing is I'm more wreckless than all of them combined. No I'm not proud of it because so many of my friends have smashed themselves up and lost their licenses as a result of being dickhead drivers. Plus a friend of mine also died in terribly unfortunate circumstances not so long ago. It was not a good time.

What I'm getting at is driving is nothing to be afraid of(in spite of what I just said) but also nothing to be blase about. You're looking out for yourself as much as other people. Just pay attention to your surroundings, to an almost compulsive level and it'll become natural. There's nothing to fear. Relax.

I've never understood why people freak out about driving. If you're nervous take a deep breath, relax, and go slow. If people honk and scream obscenities so what? You'll get to your destination with you and your car one piece and that's all that matters. You need to learn how to handle a car before you can blaze through stop lights and fish tail around corners (fun! but not recommended).

Think of it like grinding for xp :)

One of my friends failed the test 12 times, so I figure he's either secretly scared of driving or secretly a moron.

I used to loath my driving lessons and got pretty stressed but once I passed my test I was fine.

I've spun out twice (damn wet roads) got a $150 speeding ticket (2km/h off loosing my licence...) and almost had several potentially serious crashes. I don't stress out now because I know that, dispite my little mistakes that I mention above, I have not damaged anyone or anything =D

OP I'm sure if you drive normally and don't freak about speed cameras or anything then you will be A-Okay!

I'll be honest, I get nervous whenever I'm in a car and it goes above 60km/h.

Yeah I think I'll stick to walking when possible... -_-'

Take a deep breath, go slow, and assume that every other driver on the road is a complete moron. You'll do just fine.

More often than not every other driver IS a complete moron (guilty!).
