Well, Blizzard might do something for me to give them my money. Game looks fun, and I could never get into TF2. An arena shooter (excludes 95% of current FPS market) that is on PC (excludes Halo) made by a reliable developer (excludes most remaining arena shooters on PC) starting from ground floor so there's no insane meta stuff that discourages new players (like TF2)? I'll have some of that, thank you very much.
Also, dibs on Tracer. Seems like she's popular.

Well, Pharah doesn't have boob-shaped armor. Babysteps and such.
I don't know about it being boob-shaped armour. To me, it looks more like they're going for a motif crossing a falcon and a plane. To me looks more like the puffy chest of a falcon and the sort of weird sort-of bubble-shaped aerial vehicles you always find in sci-fi.
I think you misread that, I think kasp was saying she doesn't have boob shaped armor, like Mercy who has the skintight boob socks that show up a lot in female sci-fi armor.
In case you didn't catch it, Blizzard announced that they were working on a new game called overwatch, a class bassed shooter that evokes feelings of TF2. And I have to say I like what I'm seeing of the female characters so far.
There's nothing wrong with sexualized characters, just when it's all they have and/or there's a lack of alternatives, and Blizzard manages to sidestep that pitfall.
And while Overwatch does have sexualized characters like Symmetra and the Widowmaker
Frankly all of them look really good, but the cherry on top is that I just find this to be a really good step in the right direction. There's plenty of room in gaming to appeal to people who want sexualized characters and the ones who want more sensible ones. We can have it both ways.
Oh, and the game just looks like it'll be really fun to play. That's a plus.
So what do you think? Do you think that this is a step in the right direction?
All 4 share the same hourglass shape. Even the one in fully armor. And those other 3 are wearing skin thigh latex pants.
And none of them is unique looking as person. The men range from gorillas to fatso to robots to dwarf to middle aged men to giants. Why isn't there any pretty boys for girls to look at? Why did they make them all typical middle aged men and bunch of other stuff?
All the women just got different sized breast sizes and skin tones, with the same body type.
Blizzard is becoming the epitomy of misogyny if they keep this up.
Personally I think the character design in this game is fantastic. All of the characters are distinct, and holy shit not one of them is just a white guy. Not one. That's rare.
The only thing I don't like about the character design is Tracer's accent. She's got what people who've never been to the UK, much less London, probably think is a London accent. And her dialogue. Nobody in England says wicked. What decade are you in?
Did you just forget to mention the Medic who is a freaking ANGEL? The fuck?
OT: I have nothing to add to a proper gender debate that this thread may or may not turn into but that fact that the Medic is an angel sells it to me. I have a thing for revive skills too.
Already applied for beta, hopefully it can live up to how cool it looks
Blizzard seems to think all women should have a perfect hourglass shaped figure.
Game taking place in fiction is no excuse to force women into such unrealistic body portions. This is no better than telling little girls they should only play with barbies. Blizzard is only further pushing patriachy with this, and they're even willing to use new IP to do so.
I am also excited about the idea that maybe, just maybe, Valve will finally add female versions of TF2 models as a response to Overwatch. Because from the looks of this, I think it's going to be my next favorite online shooter. Unless Blizzard does something to fuck it up. Hopefully they won't.
I'm kinda glad they broke out of a trope in Pharah being a heavily armed/durable soldier. You almost never see women in that role in games, and almost never see women as soldier types. They're usually, well, like the rest of the women. Roguish, snipers, mages, healers. I hate that trope with a passion.
I'm not gunna complain too much about the clothing, but it's rare that women are in armor that doesn't form fit them... like the rest of them.
Funny thing about that: a good chunk of the animators for Blizzard and Pixar typically come from the same school at TAMU. They actually hire right out of there, so there might be Pixar alumin behind this or taught how to reciprocate Pixaresque whimsy

Just what. This is one of the craziest reasons to hate a release trailer I've seen so far. Blizzard isn't pushing shit apart from a new class based shooter. I'm fairly certain that trailer was about showing off some cool characters bouncing around and shooting cool laser guns, and I can't recall the part where the two men stopped fighting to turn and tell the camera that if women couldn't vote the world would be a better place before telling those silly womens to stop fighting and make them a sandwich while the men perform the noble art of fighting.
No, pretty sure I saw a teenager crap his pants watching super heroes duke it out before he smacked one in the face with a Nintendo Power Glove.
OT:
Looks pretty sweet, I'm all for more class based shooters since it really gives a fun feel to the game when you have to both deal with and support ten different types of damage, protection and disables flying around the map. Compared to CoD where you have to deal with bullets flying at you, in something like TF2 you need to watch out for the Scout bouncing towards you with a bat while a sniper picks of the minigun wielding Heavy that just killed the rocket packing Soldier.
Moar class = Moar chaos = Moar fun
Or if you play with friends:
Moar class = Moar teamwork = Moar win
Plus jetpacks, teleports and monkey men are always awesome. Screw gravity.

Dude, seriously? Epitome of misogyny? Are you forgetting that there's an entire game dev studio whose advertising point is "jiggle physics"? Y'know, the guys that did the controller jiggle thing, puts female fighters in super unrealistic and fetishistic costumes, and actually MADE TWO GAMES about lingerie and bikini models playing volleyball in string bikinis?
Seriously? I can understand wanting more body variety, but solely ousting Blizzard of all people makes no sense, especially since Team Ninja does what you just called out 6 times OVER.
Though I can agree, that Blizzard of all people should be a little more open about body diversity. To be honest they never really thought of it from the get go and just wanted to make super heroes.
But if you want, I would love to cooperate with you in an attempt to draw Blizzard's attention to this, and hopefully see this resolved. Maybe if this game updates regularly or cycles heroes like LoL, then maybe updates can introduce characters like a... German bodybuilder heroine named Blitzkrieg who deals drop AoE electric damage and a stun ability, and even supercharge other heroes to give them stronger attacks or charge their supers, and maybe she can do a speedball special with other players or use her electricity to magnetically push someone. OH OH and her special is an AoE attack where any enemy stuck in her electric field is stunned for 5 secs, but she can't move either.
Yeah I'd play that.
I'm not sure you can have it both ways as far as sexualized characters is concerned, since it ignores the underlying issues of the debate. People who find it offensive are still going to find it offensive. It's not enough to have a 1:1 ratio for sexualized and none sexualized characters.
thankfully I don't think that's a problem here. None of these designs are particularly offensive. I like the art style and character designs so far. It's nice to see bright, light hearted designs coming back into vogue. We can only have so many brown and grey shooters. I'm not usually a blizzard fan, but I may pick this up in the future. It looks really good so far.
Ah, I figured there was something going on with his posts, when I saw the name I had to double take because I could have sworn he had been posting almost the complete opposite sentiments in other threads, so to come in here and sound like a parody of the dreaded Tumblr "SJW" people like to complain about so much kind of threw me for a loop.
