Never have I seen any country's football team be so utterly crushed. Never have I seen football so interesting. Everyone at the local was aghast, but fair play to Germany for their stunning performances.

Fred better find a place to hide or score 5 goals in the 3rd place match. It seems like Brazil has decided to blame him for this whole debacle, judging by how much they booed him that match.
I haven't seen all of Brazil's games, but why the hate for him? The defence failed miserably, why isn't Luiz blamed?

Amazing German play by the way.
Brazilians expect their team to be high scoring, and that's reliant on a good striker. Fred is pretty good, but compared the the rest of Brazil's strikers throughout history he's among the worst. And he barely had any impact this World Cup. The match versus Germany wasn't his fault at all, but his performance has been overall the least influential. Fred's still better than Jô, and Fred had a great performance in the Confederations Cup, but people are going to looking for someone to blame. It's like how England blames Rooney whenever he doesn't score.

Bleh I'll be missing the Holland-Argentina match tonight so leaving my voice of support here: Gl hf Argentina!

Dutch team were the second most dirtiest this world cup after the Brazilians and Messi is kinda a football god so would most enjoy a Germany vs Argentina final.
Allright, indulge me. What was so dirty about the Netherlands this tournament?
And I don't know how you could be cheering for a team like Argentina, which has won its matches with poor football and lucky goals. If they didn't have Messi they would have been on their way home after two matches.
Next to Brazil and Spain, Argentina was very disappointing this tournament. At least Oranje had spectacular matches, with nice goals.

Not interested in indulging you over something that has been pretty much accepted as common fact by this point.
You're a netherlands fan who presumably watched all their games and HASNT noticed the cynical diving and the nasty elbows given? Then I doubt I'd be the one to convince you.

It's a copout argument I know, but I really can't be arsed to go stat hunting, you're perfectly free to go check yourself the stats for most fouls this tournament (brazil and netherlands),or Robben's confession about diving vs Mexico (it was this particular incident that has made me hate the dutch team) or w/e.

Argentina by contrast haven't been as bad in that department from the games I've seen.
Nice goals don't matter to me as much as the manner in which the team wins, Im not a fan of the "win at all costs mentality" and prefer a team that wins without dirty play over one that does and scores a lot of goals, which is netherlands atm.

As a German I'm obviously pleased with the World Cup thus far. Really hoping for a Germany Netherlands final. It'd be much more emotional due to the old rivalry, that has luckily become really friendly in recent years, between the teams. (it even has it's own wikipedia entry http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niederländisch-deutsche_Fußballrivalität)

Also the biggest highlight for me personally yesterday was this guy: https://twitter.com/KetyBrazil/status/486893642611974144/photo/1

Holy crap I am watching the Netherlands v Argentina game right now. It's more eventful to watch paint dry. It almost as if both teams want to get to the penalty shoot-out.

With 3 left of the match the Netherlands has had 3 shots none hit the goal.

Didn't expect the match to still be going on when I came back, saw last 7 mins of play+penalties.

So final is Argentina vs Germany. I have a preference for Germany but would be happy with either of those teams as the world cup winner, looking forward to sunday ^^

Excellent, I'm so pleased to see Argentina in the final. I have to tip Germany because they just have such a good all-round team, but I also really want Messi to have a crack at Maradona's legendary status.

Y'know for all the shit I give Argentina the Dutch totally deserved to lose this game. Completely on the back foot for ninety minutes failing to create anything; looking nervous and un-composed any time they tried to get forward until time injury/extra time where they suddenly woke up and tried to capitalise on the worn out Argie's legs. Thoroughly dull and unconvincing from both sides, though for the decision of letting Ron Vlaar have the first penalty alone I can't have any sympathy for Holland. Germany definitely look the more deserving team to win it though I'm not sure I can bring myself to back either side. I think this is pretty much the worst case final you can get for an Englishman. =/

Go Argentina, go!! We've done it!
(I'm aware of the fact that chances are the German are still going to kick our asses but I'm so happy we've got where we've got and I'm content with the way we've been playing so far. We proved everyone wrong!)

Fucking A baby, we're in the finals!
Some pics I took of the celebrations.

BTW fuck the Dutch team. Robben took more dives than the entire cast of Swan Lake.

To be honest, both teams played such boring matches (this one as well as their respective quarterfinals) that I can't be bothered to care which team takes the silver. But now both European teams can finish with a win! Good for them!

A Brazilian journalist just asked the Argentine coach in all seriousness if the Argie team fought so hard to win the semis because it was afraid to face the Brazilian team in a match for the 3rd place XD

"Yes I am so worried that instead of beating them 7-1 we will only beat them 6-1! THE HORROR!" :D
Anyway, big motherfu*kin congrats to you Johnny and all of Argentina for making into the finals. Get ready to face Germany in the Finals for a record third time!
*Ironically I'm saying this while staying with a German family in Germany right now! [small]don't tell on me...[/small]*

I think you are being a bit irrational about this "diving"-issue. Have you read the quote in which he said that? I guess you didn't. Robben said after the match against Mexico that of the three instances he went to the ground he faked one (and by that he meant one instance much earlier in the match!). When you get hindered or hit in the penalty-area it's a foul. In two instances he really got hindered or hit by a Mexican. The one where that one Mexican broke his own leg and the last one where Robben was hindered and got a penalty.

In every game I've seen at this WC the players act like they have been shot by a sniper in the crowd whenever a player from the other team as much as touches him. I think it's a blight on professional football and it should be eradicated. But contrary to your belief it's not only Robben who does this. The Germans do it. The Argentinians do it. The Brazilians do it. The Portugese do it. The Spaniards do it. And yes even the Mexicans do it. So you can't blame Robben alone for this annoying phenomenon in football.

And about the dirty play. Have you seen the kick Sneijder was given against his shins by Demichelis yesterday? Or the attack which incapacitated Neymar last friday? That isn't "fair play" either.

About the lucky goals. In the match against Spain, there were no lucky goals. They were the result of quicly switching from defending to attacking and good positioning. In the match against Chile, the Dutch got more room in the last quarter of the match beacuse the Chileans where tired. In the match against Mexico the Mexicans grew complacent after the 1-0 and fell back. This caused the Dutch to come into their own game and they dominated the match after that. It was only a matter of time before the goal came.

I know that this Dutch team didn't always play the best football this WC, but they didn't play as dirty as you think they did. I think in the match yesterday against Argentina both sides were equal and both earned to go to the finals. In this instance it's a little unfortunate that the penalties didn't go very well but you can't always win.
I hope the best team wins this sunday.

I read more then the quote, I read the interview. Robben admitted to diving in first half and gave a half hearted admission that he has the habit of pulling his leg back and falling as soon as he feels he is going down.
He didn't outright admit the penalty was a dive but he didn't need to, that was kinda obvious from watching the game and in the manner he fell so perfectly before recovering in a flash and getting high fives and cheers from his dutch team mates over a stellar "performance". I think you're the one trying to find excuses over something pretty much everyone else has accepted.

And I'm trying not to be rude here but I'm reacting exactly the same way I'd react if a Brazil fan took offence with earlier comments I made (similar ones I made about netherlands in fact) and tried, like you, to argue that their team wasn't a dirty one this WC. I have no interest in arguing with a fan who saw nothing wrong in their manner of playing and is trying to whitewash his team. If that's your belief, then good for you but you'd best stay out of the internet then cos again, this is kinda the common view now and arguing with me isn't gonna change that one bit.

I don't recall stating my belief that Robben is the only one who has fouled this tournament. I've mentioned despising the Brazilian team this WC for similar reasons.
Oh so if others do it it's ok then? As an England fan you're really barking up the wrong tree with that argument ¬¬
Putting that aside though, I'm not enough of a football fan to be aware of each team's history so I only judge the games I watch and call em as I see em. And watching this WC has given me a very negative impression of the Dutch and Brazilian teams.
Yes they were other dirty teams, but none of them have gone as far or abused their cheating to win as much as those 2 teams from those I watched. And most importantly for one who was supporting Mexico, it was the Dutch and Robben who crushed their dreams with that dive and pushed themselves to the top of my personal football hate list.

I only managed to see the last 10 mins+penalties of the match yesterday so can't tell, others including posters in this thread have said Robben was a dirty diver who really tried hard to repeat his tricks and force a penalty but I didn't see game so won't comment on that even though I can certainly believe it. I did see the tackle on Neymar via replays and agree it was horrible.

I got no words, is that REALLY how you saw the last 15 mins of that game? To quote myself from earlier:"Were we watching the same game?" (except in that case it turned out to be a misunderstanding and me taking the posters words too literally). The game was going to enter extra time and then most likely, penalties until Robben had that dive. It's a shame the dutch team didn't have your confidence that a goal was inevitable then, it would have spared us the theatrics and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

"I know that this Dutch team didn't always play the best football this WC, but they didn't play as dirty as you think they did"
It's hard to believe that line when almost every time I was watching their games, dutch players were constantly doing something to piss me off, whether it be shirt pulling, elbowing or diving.
Don't worry though, I also notice it for other teams too. I've sadly accepted that completely spotless teams are rare to non existent at this level, but that doesn't mean I still can't despise the worst offenders, and this WC has seen Brazil and Netherlands to be the world champions in dirty playing and I seem to be far from alone in that belief and the stats (most fouls committed this tournament) also support that belief. I think you're the one with the burden of proof here if you want to go against the grain.

I haven't said anything about the Dutch or anyone having "lucky" goals so assume you got me confused with someone else there, if anything I'd argue when you cheat you're making your own luck so being lucky isn't a term I'd use in this situation at all.

I hope I'm not coming off as too belligerent, but I'm not interested in having this conversation especially when it takes me 20-30 mins to type these tldr posts and believe that we are both entrenched in our views so it's impossible to do anything else but talk past each other anyways.
