A Crow in Earthworm Jim 2. Which technically isn't correct as that's only the first game I remember the name of playing. The first game I remember ever playing was this really old 2D Side scroll where you play a purple special agent dude fighting some other dudes.

And EDIT: When googling "2d side scroll where you play a purple special agent" This thread is the first hit. Wow that was fast.

A building that shot at me in some gameboy color game with world war II planes... I can't remember what it's called.

the rivals pokemon in Pokemon Red, a charmander. if that counts, if not then it would be a goomba.

One of the enemies in Super Mario World. A koopa, maybe a goomba, or maybe it was one of those blue dragon things.

There have been a number of threads recently involving the last enemy you killed, but can you remember the first enemy you killed?

mine would be the Goomba at the start of Super Mario Bros on the NES. that poor little guy, all on his own, got flattened!

what was yours?
In the early 80s my family owned one of the very first consoles, a strange beige machine from the previous decade that had a non-violent, family friendly Pong game built into it. Myself and my brother eventually convinced Dad to splash out the big dollars and buy a cartridge for it, a game called "Depth Charge". The game was two-player only (or PVP, although the term PVP hadn't been invented yet), one person controlled a submarine at the bottom of the ship and would fire torpedoes upward, toward a destroyer that the other player controlled, that would drop depth charges downward. My fertile young imagination was probably scarred forever, as the dozens of loyal, hard-working crew onboard these heavily-pixelated naval vessels were exterminated time and time again for our amusement.

Something from Warcraft 2. Some orc, I suspect.

Also, this reminds me of something from ADOM. Gameplay spoilers ahead (something of a big deal for a roguelike), but.. well, it's pretty cruel.

At the start of the game, just out of the simple options, there are four different dungeons you could begin with. Or skip straight to the main one instead of a starter. Or go to the bandit village, or kill something friendly, or fight something out in the wilderness. The game being randomly generated as it is, your first kill (out of, by the time you reach a point where it's relevant, hundreds at the very least) could be any of about 40 different creatures.

Later on, you can get the Courage skill. This stops you from getting weakened when outnumbered, and is therefore one of the game's best skills. To do this, you have to reach level 10, not be evil (chaotic alignment, in the game) and visit an old barbarian for a sidequest.

His sidequest? Go kill 20 of whatever your first kill was. Quite aside from the fact that depending on what your first kill was, this may not be possible, you probably don't remember unless you specifically wrote down your first kill. For which you would have to know about this quest.

Much later on, if you want the best ending (and, incidentally, the game's best weapon by far), you have to go kill Filk, the quickling bard. Now, quite aside from his being one of the nastiest monsters in the game, he's in the Infinite Dungeon, which re-generates floors whenever you enter. The floor he's on has to do with the first creature you killed. The floor number is equal to the number of that creature that you killed. For example, 31 jackals? Floor 31. And if it's jackals, rats, goblin rockthrowers or something, the floor number could be over 100. Oh, and if you made your first kill something unique because of this, sure, it'll be floor 1. You will also have to find some other way to get the Courage skill, like using a wish.

Rather sadistic, no?

A duck in Duck Hunt, at the time I didn't know what games were really and Duck Hunt sounded more fun than Super Mario Bros. Eventually I learned that Super Mario Bros was a lot better though, and that the dog is pretty annoying after missing a few ducks.
I was beginning to think I was the only one who played this game first.

Anyone heard of the computer game The Hobbit?

No..no, of course you haven't. Well it is a game based around the book the hobbit (surprisingly the game came out more than 5 years before the movie.) and it involves a lot of jumping and stuff and the first monster I killed was a goblin which takes place in a dream the protagonist is having and if that doesn't count than the first thing I killed was a wolf 2 game chapters later.

P.S. :D

I'm sure I've defeated something even further back than this, but the furthest back I can remember is one of those ghosts in the original arcade version of pac man when I was two or three years old.

Home system wise, the furthest back I can remember is killing an enemy ship while playing the original Star Fox game for the NES when I was three or four.

Great memory if my brain is given a little push such as this topic, though two is the furthest back I can remember...

EDIT: Now that I think about it, there was this game, that had an energizer bunny, and some robot. And brain-wired zombies, and some wierd slime you put into a jar to kill these guys with energy rifles... First kill would probably go to that game when I used the slime to kill a zombie. Course, this game was before my time, my dad simply had a copy of it on-hand. It was so old that it only had a few truly animated scenes. (and as a toddler, this game was scary as all heck!)

I believe it was a TIE Fighter in Rogue Squadron. Ah, memories.

Edit: Wait, no, the first enemies in that game are probe droids. That, then.

I can't remember much from when I first started, but I think my first couple of games were Star Fox, Mario 64, and Ocarina of Time, so it would either be some random ship thing, a gumba, or a deku scrub.

Then an above comment reminded me that I started playing Bomberman 64 before any of those when I was about 4 years old, so the first enemy I've ever killed would be those weird little blue spiky things that don't do anything accept obstruct your path.

Welcome to the club, the bar is to your left.

My first kill was probably a japanese fighter plane in Aces of the Pacific.
