Karl wondered through the bowels of the ship slowly, yet deliberately. His hands were clasped together behind his back and his eyes were silently, coldly and analytically observing the workings of the ship around him, taking in all the minor details and intricacies. This ship was truly a marvel of mechanics and science, from what he'd seen, the complexity of some of the machinery in the ship would rival that which he himself used, though of course, it wasn't better.

Suddenly a footfall from behind Karl broke him out of his analyzing and disrupted his chain of thought, something that greatly annoyed him.

Rotating around in his slow, deliberate manner, Karl turned to face the large black pet the Captain liked to keep around, the mans eyes ablaze with suspicion. If his helmet had been off, a disgusted sneer would be plainly visible on his face, even if Karl had no lips to sneer with.

Keeping with his usual process when interacting with others, Karl simply stood there, hands behind his back in silence, eyes locked with the large man infront of him. Nothing breaking the tension but the low rumble of the ships engines and the ticking emanating from Karl.

Samuel decided it would be best to find the medical bay so that he would be able to not only find the information he needed but also so that he could settle back into his element. He was not one for bars and much preferred being in an examination room or battlefield than in a VIP room in some California bar. With a few questions and some well defined pathways he eventually found his way to the area dedicated to medical and physical needs ranging from shaves and haircuts to regular checkups and major surgeries. He found the first nurse he could and immediately set about asking questions.

"Excuse me, who is in charge here?"

The nurse immediately turned to face Samuel and recognized him, if only because he was new and dressed in a class A Union uniform.

"I guess The Captain forgot to tell you sir, but you are." She replied.

"Ah, well then how many are under my charge?"

"We have 1 barber, 2 doctors, and 3 nurses one designated to work with each doctor so that the medical personnel do not need to divide resources. The doctors range in specialization but all can perform basic medicine and surgery, with all of them also having experience in medicine pertaining to injuries specific to combat wounds and injuries gained from ship work." She replied dutifully, she had obviously told this type of speech before.

"Very good, I shall leave you all to your duties then while I go claim a room for myself." Samuel replied before walking back to the crew quarters so that he might claim a cabin to himself.

Claire was eager to claim one of the rooms as quickly as possible. She hadn't had a place to call her own since her parents' house was burned down all those months ago, so to be able to stop living off the kindness of strangers was a big plus to staying here.

"I will be taking to my quarters now, mon amis," she stated to the group. "Y'all have your little tour thing and I will follow along a bit later, yeah?" With that she started wheeling her trunk towards the quarters that the captain indicated.

She selected one towards the back of the hallway. Upon entering she saw the bed, the chairs, the desk, the everything. Furniture that she would not have to treat as rentals, these would be hers for the duration of her time on this ship. She shut the door to her room and hopped on the bed. It was soft, it was big. It is home now.

Lia had walked into a room and locked the door. She had decided now was the time to check her gear and make sure everything was in order. It had been awhile since she had been in a bed, after she lost her job she had to find a way to live.

Lia looked over her sword seeing nothing wrong with it but still polished to make sure it wouldn't rust. She took her time to be sure everything was done well then laid down on the bbed thinking.

Harvey held Karl's intimidating stare. The tension was palpable. The steady ticking coming from the masked man was almost like a clock, counting the seconds that seemed to stretch out into eternity. It was obvious that he was not going to budge, but neither was Harvey. He crossed his muscular arms and adjusted his stance. "Where d'ya think yer goin'?" he asked sternly.

Cocking his head to one side slightly, Karl continued to observe the man in silence, letting his unflinching gaze pass over the large creature before him. The fact he was being addressed by it made him nauseous, even more than the usual amount of nausea he felt when interacting with others, let alone questioned by those inferior to him, it disgusted him.

After a couple more minutes of tense silence, Karl spoke, in his usual slow, rasping voice, though as he spoke his voice seemed to contain more bile than it usually did.

"I am *tick* exploring where I shall be working. *tick* Do not hinder me further slave being"

Saul's face broke into a smile.
"I think I'm going to like you Captain. I'll pick my room out right away. This should be quite the adventure. And I would love to hear your Lazarus stories at a later date. Those bastards can't even tie their own shoes right, let alone run a decent crime gang."

Saul nodded to the Captain and walked away to choose his room. He placed his holdout on the dresser and threw his extra change of clothes into it. He kicked off his boots and lay on his bed. He let his mind wander to all of the fabulous places he was bound to see and all of the goods there would be to buy and sell. It would be marvelous. He could practically hear the money changing hands, the sounds of a busy bazaar, the cry of unskilled hawkers. A smile crept over his face, a smile of pure joy.

"I ain't no slave," Harvey bitterly retorted, his already deep voice adopting a lower, more sober tone. "Not no more". He wouldn't let Karl order him around, especially not when addressing him as an item. After a lifetime of being traded and sold as a commodity, he did not take kindly to being objectified. "And I don't think yer in a position to be bossin' me around neither. Ya see, I'm the copilot of this here vessel, which makes me second-in-command. If ya got a problem wit' that, I reckon that's too bad".

[hr]

"Trust me, Saul, you'll hear them stories soon enough," Gideon told the merchant before he left to select his room. As he walked away, the Captain briefly called back what he had said about Lazarus.

'Those bastards can't even tie their own shoes right, let alone run a decent crime gang'

Gideon smirked at Saul's remark. You don't know the half of it, he thought.

"Copilot *tick*, what a quaint name. Well, whatever they call you, remember *tick* your still an inferior creature, not just to myself, but to all of them *tick*" replied Karl in his usual rasp, as his moved his hand to indicate the few scattered crewmen that were nervously watching from doorways and their work places. No emotion was shown in his voice, but if it was, there would have been a slight hint of amusement that he'd gotten to the creature, though Karl liked to think himself above such trivial things.

Having said his piece, Karl turned on his heel once more and began walking away from Harvey, content just to leave him there, he had better things to do with his time than to argue with lesser beings.

Ken selected a random state-room for himself and went inside. He dropped his rucksack on the bed and took a look around the room. It was small, but he wasn't complaining after having seen the berths, he appreciated the personal space no matter how little. He took a moment to sort through his things, it didn't take him long, he traveled light, and beyond some cash, weapons, and other necessities, his only luxury items where a deck of cards, a pipe, and a flask that was currently bone dry. He didn't mind his spartan conditions, Ken preferred to get his kicks at a saloon with cheap booze and loose women.

Ken then left his room and looked around, it appeared the Captain had left them to their devices, so Ken decided to check out the what kind of firepower the Merriweather was carrying.

I'm posting this in all my active threads, but in case word hasn't reached through the grapevine, I'm without internet at home for the moment due to something my internet provider calls a "perplexing problem". Basically my internet receives data for all of 10 seconds upon first connecting and then refuses all data after that. I will be without this internet for at least another day, so until then, my posting is going to be sporadic. I'm stealing my little bro's friend's internet to type this up, so it's going to be whenever I can get it folks.

Satisfied with the current state of her room on the ship, Claire decided she wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of her new base. If nothing else, it would get her better acquainted with any possible escape routes should they been needed. She got off the bed and departed her room, closing the door behind her. She walked down the hallway and saw the large black gentleman standing there, not looking entirely pleased.

Claire moved towards him and softly spoke. "Quel problem, mon frere?" she asked. "You look like someone spit in your gumbo there."

Ken was certainly impressed by the cannons on the gun deck. For the most part the guns were Baum & Drescher "Rolling Chamber" Cannons. The design looked like an over-grown six-shooter in a way, with a revolving six-chambered magazine attached to the breach. The design allowed the firing team to either maintain a constant barrage, or to fire six rounds in quick succession. Ken knew from first hand experience how devastating they could be when a ship is struck with six consecutive broad sides. Ken also check the kinds ammunition they had stocked. There was the classic solid cast-iron shot for piercing armor, as well exploding shells with clockwork fuses, and grape shot cannisters for clearing decks.

Ya I'm not sure it that's what you had planned for the munitions. Just tell me if you want me to change it.

Everyone seemed to have vanished at the mention of accommodations and visiting the rest of the ship: the only people in the hallway were Callista, the guy who had introduced himself as Duke, and Gideon. It was odd; the inventor had expected that the group would stick together until the tour was completed.

To fill the silence and give herself something to do - Callista never initiated a conversation herself, preferring that others spoke to her before she responded - she began to tinker with her mechanical arm, checking that the gears and wheels hadn't been damaged by anything. She could tell at a glance that nothing was wrong, but she always liked manually testing her creations. Rotating her wrist 360 degrees one way, then back the other way always gave Callista a small smile. Although, she wished she had a way to automate the arm, so she didn't have to adjust dials and levers every time she needed a second hand.
