Whoah. I downloaded Eversion a couple of days ago, but never played it. I played it just now and got to level 4, with the
Giant red hands coming out of the water.
That game is flipping messed up.
this game seems to want nothing from me but suffering.

which is good.

i think the OP is referring to atmosphere and immersion not the fourth wall

MGS broke the fourth wall with things like asking you to check the back of the CD case
or when the colonel calls me and says i should stop playing and get some sleep so i wouldn't hurt my eyes i was like huh??
i remember there was a sega game where you were in a computer room and have to press reset to fix it, you had to press the actual reset button on your console to progress

Yeah, the OP is definately confusing fourth wall with immersion, which are practically polar opposites, but I'll do both.

MGS2 continued the tradition of breaking the 4th wall when you're fighting alongside Snake and the game just goes Skitzo on you. Actually caught me unawares the first time.

As for immersion, my buddy was playing Silent Hill back in the day. Something flashes by the window and he asks, "Did you see that?" I shrug and tell him it was probably just one of those blips in games, just as the thing crashes through the window. I still dunno what it was, since I was securely hiding behind the couch and he was frantically trying to regain possession of the controller from where ever it had flown.
