Being able to accurately recreate my dumpy self and fling said effigy into oncoming traffic or from a rooftop or allow old ladies to beat me to death with canes was for me the crowning achievement in gaming comedy- and Saint's Row 2 was where it happened. The medical fraud missions alone brought tears to my eyes. I never thought being temporarily immortal could be so fun AND challenging.

Portal (both of them), The Stanley Parable (I never knew a yellow line could be that funny), the Katamari games (We Love Katamari most of them). That's basically a summary of my type of humor. Some of the Lego games are pretty damn funny too.

Okage seemed like it had laughs going for it, I never really played past the beginning so I don't know for sure I should pick that game back up, but the combat system is terrible.

My personal choice:

Luckily, it seems like games has grown funnier with time. Games like Jazzpunk and Stanley's Parable are great examples of humor on the indie scene...

I think plenty of games are "humorous" at times, but Borderlands 2 might be the only game that has made me laugh out loud so far. I prefer video games to be laugh-out-loud funny, more so than when I'm watching TV or something.

Paper mario and paper mario : thousand year door for intended humour.

Tekken 6 for unintended humour. The story and cutscenes made laughably little sense and it all culminated in this exact scene. http://youtu.be/D0JkFTyKG48

Ace Attorney series. I do not understand how they make a murder mystery that is very hilarious (and succeed). Gotta love it.
Oh, I agree! Recently I played the trilogy in 3DS, and what a laugh trip it was (the intro in the second game, Justice for All, is epic). The developers knew that the animation of the characters losing their temper and having a breakdown gets more hilarious when they are introduced beforehand looking cool tempered, showing an attitude of being in control or having some degree of dignity.

Stanely Parable.

That game encompassed both ends of the emotional spectrum, and the hilarious moments were bloody brilliant.

Caters especially to me, since I love deadpan humour ;D

Saint's row the Third has got to be one of the funniest goddamn games I have ever played, hands down.

As a couple of people mention already, Monkey Island. Granted I only played the third and half of the first game so far (I should really get back to it) but none the less they are always funny (I loved that Guybrush vs the shrieff scene in Eliane mansion)!

The Common Route in Grisaia no Kaijitsu is pretty much an elongated string of laugh out loud comedy scenes. I have a save file of The Knicknaming Game scene there just so I can rewatch it occasionally and I still always laugh. Then you hit actual routes and suddenly things are a whole lot less funny...
Seconded. I guess it sticks with me because of the contrast and me not expecting it to be funny at all. Best part for me is in one of the routes though. The scene where all girls except Makina are wearing KKK headgear and discuss "cherries".

Also second Worms Armaggedon, Ace Attorney, the Paper Mario series and Conker's Bad Fur Day.

On my own, I want to throw in South Park the Stick of Truth. Hit and misses at times, but in general, I had plenty of laughs.

'Just Another Day', a bizarre and hilarious FreeSpace Open Campaign.
Somehow it ended up on the Gallery of the Day [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/features/galleryoftheday/12946-8-Awesome-Space-Games.5].

Going for one that probably won't be brought up otherwise, Ghostbusters the Video Game. Has all of the charm of the first movie (and them some), and with good reason - it was written by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, and has pretty much all the original actors back to reprise their roles.

It was written to be the third movie, and with how that other thing is going, this is going to be the closest thing we'll ever get to an actual third movie.

I agree with a lot of the nominations so far, but haven't seen Deadpool get a nod yet. The gameplay was pretty generic for a third-person button masher title, but the humor was pretty brilliant, even if a little bit juvenile. I was so glad that I managed to grab my copy before it got pulled from Steam. Talking about it actually makes me want to pick it back up so I can just relive the jokes again.

The Monkey Island series are bloody hilarious, some of the funniest games I've played. I've heard Grim Fandango is also a laugh but I've not played that yet, however it's just been released on PSN so I will soon.
Aye, I think The Monkey Island series would probably top my list.

Like yourself I've never played Grim Fandango, but have been dying to for about 20 odd years now. Looking forward to it :)
Monkey Island and Grim Fandango are great, funny games. Maybe not hilariously funny but you play them with a stupid grin on your face from start to finish.

I think the Borderlands games can be pretty funny sometimes. First time I heard the psychos singing Ride of the Valkyries in BL2 I cracked up. Still think it sounds kinda funny :p
Aye. What I love about Monkey Island the most is the timing and out of the blue "surprise" humour. Right down to "You can call me Squinky", such unexpected stupidness is right up my ally.

I'll second/third/fourth the Monkey Island series in general. Great wit all around and a blast to play-- even when the puzzles don't make a ton of sense.

The Quest for Glory series has a very tongue-in-cheek vibe as well.

For more bizarre humor, there's a game for the PS1 called "The Incredible Crisis" which is a series of odd minigames all loosely connected by a plot involving aliens, robbery, etc. concerning a typical Japanese family. It also has a decent Ska soundtrack if you're into that sort of thing. It has a very Katamari Damacy sort of whimsical humor though it predated that game by a few years.

Srsly, check it out: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/incrediblecrisis/incrediblecrisis.htm

South Park: The Stick of Truth is both an extremely funny game (whether you are a fan of the TV show or not) and a well-crafted RPG that I recommend as often as I can.

While games such as Saints Row are funny in themselves, Stick of Truth had me consistently laughing my ass off the entire way through.
