With the sudden, unexpected, and tragic death of Monty Oum, one of Rooter Teeth's leading animators and arguably the greatest action choreographer in the world, many fans of his own series, RWBY, have wondered what the future of the web-series will be now that it lost its main storyteller.

As a fan, I believe that it is only natural to speculate RWBY's future and to share thoughts and opinions. Will the series continue? Will it be canceled? Will Rooster Teeth suddenly decide to do an entirely new version of it?

In my opinion it can go any way Rooster Teeth decides to take it. They can do their best to try and carry on Monty's vision of the series, this could suddenly decide to cancel the series because they just don't what to do with it, or for some reason they decide to remake the show entirely.

For the first option, it's a question if they can go beyond the upcoming Volume 3 to finish off Season 1. They may just decide to finish it there and leave at that. The same kind of goes for the second option for they just may not know where to go with the series after Volume 3. The third option is highly unlikely even though personally I would be curious to see what different direction but would agree that it would create to much of a stir if they suddenly decided to remake the entire series without giving out good reasons why.

So what do you guys think will happen concerning RWBY? There's no information from Rooster Teeth as of yet concerning RWBY, at least as far as I know. I would like to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Thank you.

Other people can animate it, granted not as well as him but it's still possible to some extent. I think it will continue but likely not past err... "volume" [small](why is it not called seasons?)[/small] 4. They still need to have that tournament thing.

I do believe that Monty only animated the fight scenes, he had hardly anything to do with the current story.

And because of this his vision already stopped being fully realised.

I figure they'll stop the show.

I mean, without Monty's animation for the fight scenes what do they have really? Poor writing, a story that hasn't progressed in 2 seasons, and a world they haven't been able to figure out.

As much as I respected Monty Oum's work and talent as an animator, I'm glad I stopped after season 1.

Knowing Rooster Teeth, I believe that they will possibly do two things.
Quit the show, or put it into another direction.
And I figure that the latter is highly likely.

While I am also apart of the group that critiques the negatives of RWBY, I believe that Rooster Teeth will not fail. That company has the spirit of a fucking train, and I think they'll want to honour Monty's idea in one way or another.

So, I hope they don't try to replicate Monty's animation, and I would like it if somehow or in someway they would hire a team of animators. Of course, they would have their own style ... heck I wouldn't mind seeing it in 2D animation, that would sweep some of the errors under the rug. (I wouldn't like if they got Avatar the legend of Korra's animators ... but I doubt that.)

If they did this, I presume they could make it again ... unless they try to copy his style.

Anyway, apart from that, it's just that ... ... ugh, I don't want to be a *****, but the current writing skill for the show (Sorry Kerry and Miles. I like you guys personally, but professionally is another thing) wouldn't exactly honour the show in my mind. Although I'm sure that Monty would just be damn proud that they would try and continue his idea.

There's a chance that my friend is full of shit, but according to him, Oum had already told the rest of his team the direction that he wanted RWBY to go prior to his death, so the team COULD finish the arc rather than cut it off or try to come up with their own ending.

So I've been told.

I still need to watch volume 2. I've got it open as a separate tab, and have had that tab open since the season freaking started.

From what I read (God I wish I remember where so I can link it) they have Volume 3 finished, but it was waiting for RTX in July. So, my guess is we will find out then. It would be a shame for them to drop it since it was quirky and fun, Monty did do the animation and created the world, but it is a team effort so really, it could carry on. It would almost be an insult to his legacy to end his series (that he fought to get made in the first place) just after his sudden death.

Granted, this means either Ren will need a new VA or JNPR will lose him in a Pyrrhic victory (as I theorize).

Hmm, strange, I read on Wiki on RWBY that they will continue without Monty (however there was no link to that statement) and when I check now, that statement is gone so I guess that part could of been make up.

Honestly at this point, I can see it going both ways (continue to honor Monty or quit knowing that it will no longer be as great as Monty envision it).

If they did continue then I can easily see it being somewhat more delay or take longer to produce the episode without Monty work ethnic nor will it has the over the top wow action scene the show has been know for.

Matt Hullum from Rooster Teeth is down on the record saying that they're continuing RWBY as a legacy to Monty.

Here's one of the sources I've run across saying that. It's a story in the New York Times.

Well, if they are continuing then I hope they actually have someone present to rein the project in because Monty may have been trying to make sure the project didn't go off the rails more than it already had.

On a personal level, with a new animator, maybe we will have new character designs that don't feel so ripped from fighters and brawers; seriously, there is similarities due to styles and then there is being so similar that I could take a fighting game character, put him into the universe and he wouldn't feel out of place

All props to the guy, he was obviously an amazing person and artist but I watched the first episode and walked away.
Eh. That's pretty much how I feel on the matter.

Shame about his death though.

Pretty sure rwby wasn't the Monty show ... wasn't Kerry and a few others key members of the group.

Personally, I don't give a shit either way. I think the only good things about rooster teeth are the podcasts (only when the A team is on. Gus, Burney, Gav and either Barbra or Micheal. Oh and the patch.) and half of what achievement does (sorry, im just sick of minecraft).

The rest of it is just terrible. RVB is a good concept but I'm not a fan, the shorts are painful and we'll rwby ... only saw the first episode but yeash! From what I remember it had a very mirrors edge colour pallette....

Even though RWBY was Monty's baby, a lot of other people worked on it, coupled with how big RWBY is getting (they have adorable official plushies!) and how they have said several times that everyone should go on creating and such in his memory, so it seems highly unlikely that they'll end the show because Monty's gone. Plus, Monty did share his ideas of where RWBY would go beyond the second season with others.

Will it take longer for the third season to come out? Most likely. What will happen with Lie Ren? No idea, but I kinda doubt that they'd kill him off.

They will probably continue it, but hire another lead animator to fill Monty's shoes. Hell, even so, I doubt that Monty was the sole animator of the show; despite his crazy work schedule, he probably had a small team of people working on it, because I somehow doubt that he could do an entire series on his own.

That being said, whilst RWBY was Monty's baby, and it was his idea to begin with, as far as I am aware, Miles and Kerry did most of the story work, so whilst Monty may be gone, they still have the tools to continue the show.
