Blades of Steel for the NES. I still get a little excited when I hear that intro music...
"Blades of Steel!" *sching!*

The first game that was actually mine was the Mario Bros./Duck Hunt combo that I got for Christmas when I was a wee lad. I also played on my sibling's Intelivision before that, but I don't remember anything about it. And I too played on the Apple II C.

To the OP: I vaguely remember that castle trivia game you mentioned, if you find the name, please mention it, I want to relive some memories.

Super Mario World for the SNES, me and my friends would play every day before elementary school, ah the memories.
Almost the exact same way for me, except my uncle would bribe me with Mario... on the NES and SNES to make sure that I did my hw in elementary school

I was born in 1977. My first game was probably something text-based on a Sinclair ZX81. My first game-for-life would be Chuckie Egg on the Amstrad CPC. The first game that moved me to buy a PC was Command and Conquer, and the first game that moved me to buy a console was GTA3 on the PS2 (which then got binned for Halo on the Xbox)

possibly Cobra [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobra_(video_game)#Video_game] or some other ZX spectrum game whose name I've long forgotten.

A random Thomas the Tank Engine game. I taught myself how to use DOS before I was one year old just so I could play the game.

Wait, is this the first videogame only, or is it my first game in general, because my first game was good ol' AD&D, and my first video game was Mario Bros. on the Gameboy.

I'm 33 and I started playing games when I was about 7 when the first home computers were released. We're talking the Atari 2600, Amstrad and Commodore 64 era here.

Probably the first computer game I ever played (excluding arcade games like frogger) would have been Space Invaders on a Atari 2600 at a friends house in about 1983. Around that time the very early text adventures (a genre later refined to its pinacle by Infocom) were coming out which I used to go and play at the library (as almost no-one owned a computer then).

The first memorable game for me was a text adventure called 'Pyramids of Doom' (you can play it here: http://www.freearcade.com/Zplet.jav/Pyramid.html).

The most standout games of that early era for me were:

- 'Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord' [1981] which was one of the first dungeon crawler RPGs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizardry:_Proving_Grounds_of_the_Mad_Overlord) and is still playable today. In fact, it has features that would now be regarded as innovative.

- 'Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar' [1985] which an early world-style RPG made by Richard Gariott where you had to become the embodiment of eight virtues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultima_4). At the time, this blew our minds about what a real-world RPG could be like.

- 'Wasteland' [1988] which was a post-apocalyptic RPG set in the Nevada desert. This is probably my most favourite game of all time (closely followed by Deus Ex and Thief) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasteland_(computer_game) ). The game was later remade into a little game called Fallout. You may have heard of it. :) This game was unbelievable when it was released. It had text like "Thug explodes like a blood sausage" when you gunned down some low-life...which you just hadn't seen before. The storyline was non-linear with lots of sub-threads (mirrored by the Fallout games) and players in your party would sometimes disobey orders. There had been nothing like it before.

So there you go. A bit of early game history.

Seriously? I really can't remember...

I mean i think it might have been a sega game because that was my first console...and i have some recollection of some games i played on it, like Sonic, Jurassic Park, Ristar, among others...

Strangely enough i hate Sonic *glee*.

Now the game that marked my childhood the most was (and i say this with a sigh) Final Fantasy 7. It just did. and i was a fanboy over that game for a while, but now I've grown up and become well....a fanboy in a bigger body i guess <_<.
I am the exact same as you. First game I ever played was Sonic, or Toejam and Earl. But then I moved onto the PSX and bought my first game, Broken Sword, which I loved, until the release of Final Fantasy 7 and me and my friends became obsessed and loved it. But now I am getting sick of Cloud, and especially Sephiroth, who all the fans masterb...nevermind, the point is, the amount of sequels have ruined the nostalgia effect for me.

My first video game to play at home was Pong when it first came out. We played that game for hours on end. My very first games to play were at the one and only bar in our very small town. They didn't care about kids being in bars in those days, at least not in our little town, so I'd hang out there with my friends sometimes. They had Pac Man, Donkey Kong and Centipede. I wasn't very good at Donkey Kong nor Pac Man, but I kicked everyone's butt at Centipede.

I was born in 1973, so I've seen quite a few games and game systems in my time.

Hmm...first game I can remember was Super Metroid on the SNES when I was six. I still play that game. My best run is still the one when I was six...now I just can't get passed that damned lava world thing place.
