The first game that was mine and mine alone? Pokemon Red version.
Sad, maybe, but it was mine. And the first games I bought myself were gold and silver...

Hmm well I started on like the Commodore 64 and games like Temple Of Asaphi , Bard's Tale, Ultima IV-V and others were what got me into gaming. I also played a lot of action games at the time like Lode Runner and stuff like that.

For DOS based gaming (which I used to do on an 8088.. gogo Tandy 1000EX) I pretty much did the "Quest" games (King's Quest, Space Quest, etc...) though they are not RPGs (as someone else mentioned) but rather adventure games. Still "Hero's Quest" (renamed "Quest For Glory") was an awesome compromise between what made both RPGs and Adventure games cool, and I miss that series of games.

Truth is I had a Nintendo and SNES, *BUT* didn't get into serious console gaming until the Playstation. I think the first Playstation game I really got into was "Wild Arms" and that was followed of course by "Final Fantasy VII" both of which pretty much cemented my interest in JRPGs (though I still prefer WRPGs given the option and I regret more are not developed).

I play other kinds of games, but I am an RPG gamer first and foremost as you can guess. >:)

It's not the first game I have played but it was the first that got me into gaming as much as I am right now... Halo: Combat Evolved. It was the easiest and most fun game to pick up on compared to most games back then, even today. I also kinda grew up on the FF series, although the first one I actually have beaten was 10 lol. I also used to play 11 (the MMO one) for about 2 years, maybe almost 3, that one actually made me better (strategy mostly) at alot of other games, even other genres.

Command and conquer red alert on the playstation. My brother got it for christmas one year, wasnt really that interested in computers at the time. However when I saw that and realised I could command legions of tanks I became an addict. Havent really looked back since =D

A large part of my formative years was spent immersed in classic PC adventure games, mostly Sierra and LucasArts. Quest for Glory was (and still is) my favorite...of course, it was called Hero's Quest back then. ;D

I'd usually watch my brother play, then played them myself as I got older and stopped being terrified of things like letting Rosella fall off a flight of stairs to her death. X) I have a lot of good memories of "family" gaming involving my brother, my dad, and me (my mom wasn't interested, sadly). Myst is a particularly good example of this, as we all gathered around to try and figure out the puzzles together. :)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game for NES

Wow, that's a mouthful.

I could beat the game in 30 minutes on one life I played it so much.

Commander Keen and Sim City were the first two games the I ever played. I would be allowed on our old DOS computer whenever my dad was finished using it and I would play through those games over and over. I even still have that old computer hooked up; I think I'll go and play a little bit right now, actually.

I grew up watching my brothers play games like Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, and Wizards and Warriors. When I got a little older (around the time the Super Nintendo came out) I started my own escapades with Final Fantasy 4 and 6, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger and the like. I got so good at RPGs that I was the first out of all my siblings (6 older brothers) to make it to the second disk of Final Fantasy 7.

Not the biggest accomplishment, but still. Out of all those I'd say that Final Fantasy 6 (3 at the time... stupid US numbering system) has got to be my all-time favorite game. It's my foundation block.

Super Mario Brothers.

Then Mortal Kombat--Mortal Kombat was my big brother's, but I played it all the time and even knew Sonia's finishing moves. It was the best thing ever for de-stressing.

I got back into gaming after not playing for years when a friend lent me his PSP and Crisis Core. I really liked Crisis Core, and it cured me of my short-tempered rage quits that normally happened when I played, since I was playing a character I knew was going to die. So whenever he died in the game, I added one more to my "dead-Zack" score, and kept going.

Perfect dark. I loved that game, and the sequel was a sucky imitation of what once was. Joanna for the win
