I've had an Elite since Halo 3 was released. I never had any problems with it up until Christmas 09. I hadn't even played the damn thing since about October when I'd finished with Tales of Vesperia. I'd been too involved with the PS3 (which gets a better wifi connection despite me having paid £60 for the over-fucking-priced 360 adapter) Anyway, I got a couple of games for Christmas, Assassins Creed and Left4Dead2, and obviously proceeded to play them. I started my first mission for Ezio's uncle and I got those god-forsaken vertical lines followed by the flashing red lights. Seriously, two months of just sitting there (discrediting anyone's argument that RROD is caused solely by overuse) and then when I do use it - and in moderate amounts too - the thing fucking breaks. Awesome Christmas present, I know. Anyway, it's also proof that Elite's are NOT immune. Maybe it lasted longer than a regular 360, but it still broke in the end. For the record, it hadn't been abused beforehand either. I rarely even played it.
I get the impression that you can talk about how you've never had any problems with your 360 in the 3 years you've owned it or whatever, but all of the machines are just ticking time-bombs. Metaphorically, of course. I don't think any 360 will go a full lifetime before getting the RROD. You just have to hope that, when it finally happens, it's in the extended 3-year warranty Microsoft gives to all machines since they were bought.
