Ok people. How about some lists of the games that really changed your life. The games that impacted you spiritually, that affected your day to day thoughts and existence. The ones that defined you're childhood/adolescence.

My defining experiences would have to be

TIE Fighter, UFO, Doom, Super Mario Bros, Jedi Knight.

I would have to say... None really. My life is alot more impacted by the people around me and the circumstances I get put in, rather then video games.

The game that had the most effect on me and my life (for the better) was ISW.
It shaped me into what I was before I became what I am today.

Star Wars - the arcade version from the 80's with the vector graphics where you run the death star trenches at the end of A New Hope. I saw/ played this as a kid and new that I would be hooked on games. Damn, that was a lot of 10p coins!

Dynasty Warriors 3, the game was good enough to make me pick up Romance of the Three Kingdoms which was a amazing book and I was reading it about the same time as the Last Samurai, so had a very "honorable warriors" attitude going on, not broken a promise now for about 9 years.

Age of Empires/Shogun Total War, where would my understanding of the art of war and the human mind be with out these two games? No where near what it is now. (I should clarify that by saying I read The Art of War to improve my gaming)

Games don't really influence my life, I enjoy them and some even make me think but none so far has made me change any attitudes or aspects of living.

Then again I am still playing Real World 3: University life and I must say it is really opening my eyes up to the world. Controls are a bit glitchy at times but I find after a few hours of rest and recharging everything goes back to normal. Graphics are excellent - some might say almost life like. Soundtrack can vary between rubbish to 'meh' to awesome, depends on where you are in the game. Different places have different sounds you see. Achievements though are a real pain in the ass, especially the "assignments done on time" and the "lab reports on practicals" are real hard ones to crack.

IGN gave the game a 6/10 for and called it an "overrated MMO".

Screw those guys!.

Deus Ex. It's still pure brilliance after a good 10 years now. Great story and still has some of the widest variety of in game play options to date. (Stealth, Rambo etc)

Tied for close second would have to be Marathon by Bungie before they were famous because it was the first game I ever owned and more recently Mass Effect.

Alex Kidd (Sega Master System 2)- First video game I ever played.

Rival Schools (PS1) - For some reason I fell in love with this game and have loved the genre ever since.

Tekken 3 - Same reason exept I ended up playing on Arcade and met some cool people I'm still in touch with.

If I had to go with a more recent game I'd say Saints Row, only because of the ridiculous number of references me and my friends use in daily life.

Perfect Dark Zero because it prompted me to write a book (two actually with a third and a possible fourth on the way.) because I didn't think (and still do) that it wasn't set far enough in the future. So I wrote up a spy story 100 years in the future.

Also up there are Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, The Orange Box and the Modern Warfare series.

Honestly, alot of games have had some effect on me, but the one that had the greatest emotional impact on me was probably FF7. I'm the type of person that has an overactive imagination, and I get easily immersed in games, especially ones with good stories. FF7 was the first and only game that ever made me cry.....though I was 10 so.....

While it's a little stupid, Assassin's Creed. Never before had I wanted a weapon from a game so badly; you know which one(s). More importantly, the motto of the organization summed up everything I already thought about life in one short quote, which I now say every now and again. I try not to overdo it, though.

Portal made me pick up the guitar again. You know why.

Pokemon is the reason I became a gamer. I know, judge me. Bring it on.

Ooh wow. That looks so good. No really, that looks amazingly fun, even from our future perspectives.
It was my friend, it was. Sadly you couldn''t get it at home without buying one of those big arse arcade machines, so you had to wait until you went to Blackpool or Brighton to go to the amusements on the pier.

If anyone has loads of spare cash (£3,500/ $7,000), go here [http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/geekend/?p=834] and treat yourselves.
