I've been a gamer for around all my life, and one this always makes me wonder. Why is there such a massive war between console owners, pc owners, and casual gamers? It seems like everyone is at odds with one another. Console gamers hate eachother for owning other consoles (Example: PS3 owner cursing out an Xbox 360 owner). PC owners arguing about consoles. Casual gamers arguing about......farmville stuff (I think?). But over all, what is the point?

The point I'm trying to reach is: Why do we, as gamers, always argue with one another? We are all brought together by one thing but it seems like that one thing also devides us more than anything else. So mainly there are a few questions I hoped the Escapist could awnser:

Why does everyone dislike casual gamers? Seriously, all they want to do is play their Facebook games in peace, who are we to judge them for it.

Why do console players argue amongst eachother? It saddens me to see people insulting eachother because one person perfers the Xbox over a PS3.

And Finally, why is the gaming community always uncivilized in-game? In almost every online game you will find people insulting eachother over such things as skill, lag, team playing, it doesn't add up, if you dislike the person just ignore them don't insult them.

So can someone please help me awnser these questions?

It's all about being part of a group, and the best thing about being part of a group is all the other groups you get to hate on because your group is better.

Run on sentances ftw.

But the groups argue with themselves even: "Hey did you get Halo Reach?" "No not yet" "You aren't a REAL gamer!"

I have heard this many times before.

Gamers don't like casual gamers because it's the total opposite of themselves, people who don't take gaming seriously. This is hard for them to understand so they hate it out of fear.

There is more than once choice, therefore people have to ask which is better.
But they never ask, they just argue.
Well, they get their answer and they defend it. I don't see the problem here.
But they will never reach an awnser because they both are blinded by their own ideas.

War...

War never changes.
Pretty much. As humans we have to argue if not then life would be dull and besides once religion leaves us we need something else to have a war about. And besides could you magine a world where pc isn't dominant.
JK bout that last part i guess it's because no one wants their hard earned money to feel inferior.

It's more along the lines of :"Did you choose something like me?"
If answer is yes, you join as community and forge a bond, for you surely think alike.
if answer is no, you must be short sighted, dim-witted, and not at all pretty.

It's a trail in self-affirmation. Usually the core lies around a weak ego and the need to be accepted by ones peers.

To quote the great George Carlin: "Did you ever notice how people driving faster than you are maniacs, but people driving slower than you are morons?"

I haven't got the clue about console wars, I mean I stick to my belief about PC being superior but I don't insult anyone over it or go into some nerdrage over it either.

About disliking casual gamers :

It puts it down fairly well, the "hardcore" gamers feel somewhat betrayed seeing as how they put in so much time and effort into gaming and proved their skill many times over, then some folks come along play some dumbed down versions of video games and seemingly gain the same "gamer status". Basically just because I make some soup once in a few months it doesn't make me a cook, going over to a chef and saying that I am indeed a cook is arrogant and irritating.

The "uncivilized gamer" issue - it isn't so much about gamers as it is about people online, a fairly big amount of people either doesn't have manners or just losses them when they get online. The gamer community is a rather young one out of the general populace so there's a bunch of teens who haven't gotten over the novelty of swear words and throw them around as frequently as possible and ofcourse the anonimity helps. Also even if 9 out of 10 will be civil you would still remember the last noisy one who was needlessly offensive.

People like to argue because it's fun for them, or to look good in front of their friends if it's online play arguing.

People are stupid and think that just because they have something they enjoy, it has to be the best thing ever automatically.
