This is just a little detail but katanas aren't actually that sharp they are more for glancing blows and durability than being ubder sharp.
Ohhh... Dude...

Katanas are INSANELY sharp. I've gotten cuts by lightly touching the edge- seriously, blood was drawn, and I didn't think I was actually touching it yet.
I was at a tournament once, and a guy made a mistake when he was drawing the blade. The index and middle fingers on his left hand were on the floor before he felt any pain at all. He didn't even notice them until he slipped on the blood.

That's how sharp katanas are: they cut straight through bones like tissue paper. Fortunately for that guy, the nerves were sliced neatly, so a surgeon was able to reattach his fingers.
Thats because the pressure is over a small area because of folding but as a weapon they are not for their sharpness they are for their durability. Treated right they can be sharp but they are not meant to sharp. Although movies makes them seem much sharper than they are. Even axes can cut through bone like tissue paper though so treated right anything can be sharp.

Naginata. I have actually learned a bit of naginatajutsu. Admittedly it was years ago, but some training is better than none.

two-handed scimitar
A.K.A. a falchion.
Actually, no, a falchion is a single-handed curved sword, much like your traditional shamshir or talwar, though perhaps a closer analogue would be the Turkish executioner's kilij, given the general broadness of the blade. This here's my favorite picture of a falchion by far.

Used in one hand, usually paired with a shield.
This is closer to what I was referring to.

While it can be wielded in one hand, more control is granted if both hands are used, much like a bastard (hand-and-a-half) sword.
Well, I sit corrected.

Zweihander- it's weighty, sharp, can be turned mid swing because of it's blade grip and curvature of the blades base means i wont get your blood running down my arms

Kusarigama, the Japanese chain-sickle. Even the greatest samurai faced a daunting opponent in a kugarigama master.

I choose a zweihander, In my country (Holland) we have a hero named Pier Gerlofs Donia or aka Grutte pier wich stands for big worm and well his name was pier. he was 2 meters 15 long and could hold two zweihander (swords wich are so big you need two hands to hold him) one in both hand. Both swords were as long as himself and there weight was 6.6 kilo grams. I choos the zweihander because i'm about 15 centimeters shorter as him and im pretty strong too i can lift 60 kilograms with one hand. So who is ready to fight? BRING IT ON!
I'd take you on.

I'd use two Kodachi. Good luck getting through my defense. Assuming you can swing a greatsword fast enough to hit me in the first place.

Also, although Piers Gerlofs Donia may have been strong enough to hold one greatsword in each hand, there is no official record of him wielding 2 at once. He is recorded beheading multiple people in one swing with them though. Which is more impressive in my book.
Sorry, you're right. He used only one sword, still he was awesome. I would like to take your challenge, but since i can't get a zweihander legally and you probably live somewhere i can't get to on my bike, i think we could better let this rest. :p
Indeed. But you can't get one legally? That really sucks.
Well weapons are illegal in Holland, there are even cases where a man just had a screwdriver in the dashboard cabinet of his car and got a fine for illegal posession of a weapon.
Damn. That makes me glad to live in (this part) of Australia.

We may not be able to create an effective games rating system, but at least I can buy sharp pointy objects.

Does that really sound as screwed up as I think it does?

I would take a chainsaw that's modified with the handle of a claymore. Modern technology meets ancient brutality. I would use a flail or something with a chain but that would be just as dangerous to me as it would be to the person I'm fighting.

Yeah it does. It's pretty much : Son you can't play videogames! They are very very violent and there is a reason why Australia banned violent games! Here have two kodachi and play with your little sister.

A pair of Roman-modified cesti:

...get in close, grab hold, then pummel until my opponent stops moving. Unless he's a knife-fighter, then I'd probably be in trouble.
this weapon is the most kick-ass discovery of my day.
Heh heh, yeah, simple but effective. I first came across them in the D&D 2nd Edition "The Warrior's Handbook":

The fighter was armed with cesti and was seemingly being stalked down a dimly-lit side-street. Shadowy figures would flit in and out of his peripheral vision, creating a bit of paranoia in the fighter. A rustling came from within a nearby pile of refuse, the fighter sprang into action diving for the figure he could faintly see moving amidst the rubbish. Grabbing the smallish figure by the throat the fighter repeatedly punched the individual with this cestus-encased fist, quickly ending the life of whatever this dark creature must be. Dragging the corpse into a nearby circle of flickering gaslight he discovered he had decimated a simple human vagabond who had probably been searching for food or shelter. Fearing what the town guards would think should they discover the his grave mistake he began looking around for somewhere to hide the corpse. That's when the gaslights went out and the dark creepers struck.
