Lots of depressing news stories breaking recently, and it's just the beginning of the year. More murders in Colorado. China and Japan might have a war this year. Fiscal cliff...I'm determined to fight the negativity. I'm not talking about ignorance being bliss. We know that bad things are happening and will continue to happen, but I refuse to let this shit get me down.

Post happy things here. I don't care if I have to bump this myself, unless I get warnings/banned for it. For starters, let's break out the classic 'Cake Dance':

You know, it's weird but the only thing I ever watched with Rowan Atkinson was Blackadder. Strangely enough, it was because of the closing song from Blackadder The Third, which I'll forever associate with the show. It's so upbeat and...weird. I should give Mr. Bean a try, seeing how Rowan Atkinson has made so much money over the decades, he must be doing something right.

Many years ago, a boy in his youth discovered the joys and wonders of video games. One in particular caught his eyes: Sonic the Hedgehog.

In a world of endless possibilities, where imagination was the limit, Sonic the Hedgehog seemed to break past all the boundaries of the normal world and exist as something greater. It was magical, and it left its impact.

As the youth grew older, more Sonic games would be released. He ardently followed them, hoping each time to recapture the joyful innocence of his younger years. The world can be a cruel and unforgiving mistress, but in the realm of nostalgia she could never harm him.

And so it came one day that a certain game would be released. A new cycle of gaming console hardware had recently been released, and this game was to show off all of the bells and whistles that would come with the leap in technology.

This game was called Sonic the Hedgehog.[footnote]For those of you confused, this Sonic the Hedgehog was meant to be a new beginning for the entire franchise, and would later colloquially come to be known as Sonic '06.[/footnote]

The young man, however, didn't have the requisite consoles to be able to play the game when it was first launched. And as he wasn't one to follow the gaming press, he never saw the reputation it had been getting over a thing called the Internet, a vast network that connects practically the entire world with just a few clicks of buttons.

Time passed, on and on, and as luck would have it, the young man would eventually come to find himself in the possession of one such new gaming console, though at this point the hardware itself could hardly be considered new.

Exhilarated, he went out immediately to the nearest shop that sold video games, and at the behest and better judgment of all those around him, purchased Sonic the Hedgehog.

He went home that night.

He placed the game within the console.

He began playing.



And so it was, that on that night, his childhood was summarily destroyed.
