I often read the forums here on The Escapist and really only comment when I feel like I have something to add. Lately, I haven't commented much at all because the topics (or more precisely the ten topics I see when I land on the homepage) are almost always a flavor of the same common themes.

I was hoping we could compile a list of thread topics that have been done and should be put down.

A few to start with:

- Sexism and Games: Is REALLY a big deal?!?
- Game that came out 2 years ago that I only JUST finished, what did you think of the ending?
- This is what's wrong with games, I'll state my opinion as if it is verified fact and personally reply to everyone who disagrees
- I'm a teenager with a problem, it's totally a real concern on par with, like, Shakespearean tragedy
- Do you like pizza? and other polls with obvious results.

The problem with this is, due to financial reasons, I often don't play games when they're released, and instead I purchase games much later, when they're cheaper.

Once I've finally finished a game, and want to discuss it here, I discover I can't.
The mods don't like people necroing old threads. And people complain if you make a new thread about the game.

So that's it. If you're in the same position as I am, and want to discuss a (old-ish) game you've only just completed, you're shit outta luck.

In that way, these forums are not that great for discussion, it has to be said.

You could replace sexism with any social issue the poster doesn't care to understand, really.

Also, ponies.

Personally, I don't see why the forum had to be about Skyrim and nothing else the week after it came out.

A generic topic and your favourite pet are both drowning in a lake, and you can only save one of them. Which one do you choose?

Ok, so I guess we haven't seen any drowning threads in a while. The worst threads are the ones where the OP is just a link to a site or video and a one line sentence giving an opinion. Everything else I can deal with.

It depends on the game.

We're sick of talking about Mass Effect, or Dragon Age. Those threads always go down the same path, everyone knows it, so a lot of us are just tired of seeing new threads pop up by people who just finished and think they're the worst thing ever/not as bad as was advertised by the interwebz. Skyrim threads are a bit more hit-or-miss, but the few recent ones went pretty long, all things considered.

And with less popular games, it's pretty much open season. Hell, I'm always willing to talk me a bit of Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Okami, Metal Gear Solid, Sonic the Hedgehog, Knights of the Old Republic, etc. etc. etc.

But yeah, seriously, don't necro threads. It's a chance of a Blue Moon that you'll get a response from anybody who posted in it the first time around if they're even still on these forums, and new eyes will be dissuaded from the discussion when they see how many posts are already in the thread/how long ago the last post before the necro was; Most of the time there's nothing to be said that couldn't be put into the opener of a new thread, anyway.

OT: Anything involving a new-ish user poking the Brony cage with a stick by saying something to the effect of "Why is MLP so popular?!?!?"

Excluding EternalNothingness, we get more posts about ponies by people looking to enrage the MLP fanbase around here than we do from the MLP fanbase.

"I'm going to quit video games/this site/other and I want you lot to persuade me not to."

You and your unwarranted sense of self importance can piss off.

Transexuality. Speaking as someone who is extremely supportive of LGBT rights, I was interested in the first five or so of these I saw but... god they come up far more than they should.

Also raging against whatever cheap popcorn the mainstream is gobbling up at the current moment.
