You know what I can't get enough of? Grappling guns. Hook shots. Batclaws. Can I fire it and will it grapple? I love the game already.

You know what I'm not so keen on? Contextual-grappling. Like in Ada's side of the story in RE4, where you get to shoot up something like 5 times overall in very specific locations.

Let's say I'm looking for the best kind of grappling gun experience out there. What game would that be?

Never played it myself, but from what I've seen of them one of the "modern" Bionic Commando games/remakes might be what you're looking for.

EDIT: For shame, how could I forget Just Cause 2?!

Just Cause 2

It basically is famous for being a mayhem open world game with a grappling hook

If you get it I recommend looking for the mod that extend the grappling hook for miles. Then you get some really crazy Grappling hook action.

Yeah, Just Cause 2's grappling hook is fantastic.

In a car chase? Climb on top of your moving car, stand on the roof and shoot your grappling hook at the car(s) chasing you and then hook them to the road. Watch the mayhem commence.

Feeling bored? Why not use your grappling hook to attach a woman to your jet and see if you can fly her into a mountain without damaging your plane.

Seriously, best grappling hook in gaming.

Alright, Just Cause 2 was already in my To Buy List for different reasons, this just kicked it up several spots.
Any other "grappling hook magic" games?

When I think grappling guns, I immediately think of one of three things.

Just Cause 2, for obvious reasons.
Twilight Princess, for the dual clawshot and the awesome boss fight against Argorok.
Terraria, for the movement options having a grappling hook throws up.

Tomb Raider: Underworld has a grappling hook used for moving things, climbing, descending, swinging, etc.

Man I'd forgotten about the Worms' "Ninja Rope". That was too much fun.

You could play Hexxit, or any version of Minecraft with the Better Dungeons Mod.
7x Diamonds + Piston + Arrow = Hookshoot
DAD
DPD
DDD
2x Hookshoot = Longshoot

It's fun to traverse ravines with dual Longshoots. Fwip fwip.

Well, the Arkham games obviously. Bulletstorm has a lasso thing, kinda grappling hook-ey I guess. Would a Spiderman game count?

I suppose, I hadn't thought of Spider-Man. I've never heard very good things about any Spider-Man game though.

Tribes Vengeance had a grappling hook, though IIRC it was more for takeoff and turning

Also there's a Quake mod or two with grappling hooks... like this one http://youtu.be/ZrQjrxK40t4?list=UUC0_zlkWDvH_fnim2nZuF4w

On the subject of Spiderman, Spiderman 2 (not The Amazing Spiderman 2, but the 2004 Spiderman 2) was suggested to me in another thread and has been pretty highly recommended elsewhere

Just to piggyback on the previous post, SPIDERMAN 2.

You want some of the most satisfying swinging of all time? You want to see your web actually cling to the buildings?!
And do you want to suplex criminals off a building into the concrete, while performing sick matrix dodges in slow motion while swinging?... yeah, experimentation is actually possible in that game to my surprise.

It's no Just Cause 2 which like the rest of the thread I highly recommend, but it's the closest thing to a tame version of Hulk: Ultimate Destruction featuring Tobey Maguire using an amazing spider fecal grappling hook, that you should have a swing at.

The grappling hook in Tenchu for the PS1 was pretty great. That was a good game but I haven't played it since I was a kid.

What's better than a grappling gun? A grappling gun that can eat people of course!

Just one of the many oddly interesting living weapons Shephard got and we never saw again, I want my Spore Squid back damnit!

A good Spider-Man game exists.

Seriously, check this out. There is a reason it's 1 of my favorite games of all time.
