There was an old topic i found while googling, a thread for someone looking for games with Dwarves in them for he had Dwarf Fever, which I can relate too. Gave me the idea to try and form a list that started on GOG out of games available on GOG but moved onward. So if anyone else has ever needed more Dwarf, heres your list. If anyone else knows any other games i can add to the list please let me know! This is for PC, no MMO's (yet), games where you can play as a primary Dwarf character or Dwarf Race/Faction so things like Warcraft RTS series are out.

Diggles: The Myth of Fenris would come to my mind as another game with dwarfs. Basically a RTS where you try to reach the center of the earth with your dwarfs by digging tunnels, farming, producing stuff etc. pp.

Drakensang (series, offline, verify?)

What do you want verified here? It's possible to play dwarven characters in the game.

Golden Axe. Dunno if it was originally on PC but you can definitely emulate it for the Amiga version. Edit:The almighty wikipedia says it came out on DOS,so I guess it fits.

You should probably add Blackguard... even though it's a npc and not the player character. (Though the fact is that he probably is your best damage dealer)

Reminded to give DF anther shot

I believe the upcoming Pillars of Eternity by Obsidian Entertainment will have Dwarves as a playable race for your main character.

Eye of the Beholder also let you generate Dwarf characters, or at least the first one did, though I would guess this goes for the entire series. Really, just about any D&D-inspired oldschool dungeon crawly RPG let you have Dwarves. So that would include stuff like Pool of Radiance (also a series), Might and Magic, Wizardry, and probably a bunch of others I haven't played.

...and I just see you've already got Might and Magic X. You might as well extend that to cover the entire series, as far as I know they've all got playable dwarf characters.

And let's not forget The Elder Scro- oh wait, never mind. You're pretty much all dead. Sucks to be you, eh?

Yeah i may need to set a year limit somewhere for all but the most popular classic dungeon crawler classics!

And feh, we aint dead, what 'really' happened is when we learned that we were related to Elves, we abandoned Tamriel and moved in to the Deadlands, kicking the Daedric out (they attempted to migrate somewhere else during that time)

How about the Golden Gift campaign from Age of Mythology? Only a couple of missions, granted, but you play as the Dwarves. :)

While Dwarves are an awesome unit, Its still Thor you play as =\ Wish they had combat units though, but good miners. Same rule applies for Warcraft 3 dwarves, Tzar dwarves, and similar. Only Warlords actually has Dwarves as their own faction.

Wonder if i should put MOBA's in a catagory of their own, since there are like four with Dwarves now

Gimli was the only dwarf in LOTR: Battle for middleearth. A hero character recruitable by Rohan, and playable in the good campaign
Whereas in the second game the dwarf race was a playable faction.

So I'd suggest removing that particular game from the list :) unless you go to the extremes like that with all games, granted the heroes in the original game were a lot stronger and could sometimes solo kill an easy enemy in a skirmish battle.

I assumed Dwarves had been playable in the first one since 'not' having them as a playable race would be blasphemy, guess it goes to the mountain of elf bias ;o

The Dwarf npc you have in your party in Blackguard was pretty decently written, at least imo. Along with those hammer blows...

You probably shouldn't include DA2, since you only get to play as a human. (Remind me to replay DA:O as the Dwarf race though, they're orgin story is probably the best imo)

Also there is LOTRO, if you don't mind the MMOS

"Class Of Heroes" (PSP RPG Series) has them.

The Drakensang games do indeed allow you to roll a character who is a dwarf (in addition to recruiting one in both games I believe)

Pretty much all the old "Gold Box" D&D games allow dwarves, as does the remade (and rather bad) "Pool Of Radiance".

The Dark Sun RPG series also allows you to make dwarf characters.

Elder Scrolls: Arena, and Daggerfall allow you to play dwarves. Indeed their removal is something a lot of people find irritating. Originally the Redguards were dwarves which is why the province they are from is called Hammerfell (sounds stereotypically dwarven, no?). It's the source of a lot of arguments about political correctness, and something Bethesda has waffled back and forth about for a while, claiming they always intended to do this, or claiming that they dropped the dwarves because they found it problematic to adjust the viewing height for that one race, and similar things.

Wizardry of course included dwarves as a playable race (many games)

Bard's Tale I-III includes dwarves as a playable race

Phantasie I-III includes dwarves as a playable race

Ultima III had Dwarves (being the Ultima game where you created a party and had multiple classes and races)

I'm drawing a blank, I can't think of more and I should be able to.

Myth 1 and 2. Fantasy real-time tactics games with dwarven grenadiers. All the best levels are mostly dwarves and they are hilarious. Avoid Myth 3, it's horrible.

And and and ARCANUM. Seriously. A Fallout-style RPG set in a steampunk Tolkien universe. Not only can you be a dwarf mad scientist with spiderbot minions and a tesla rifle who throws beakers of acid at people, but dwarves get certain unique plot paths, and I believe one ally can only be recruited by a dwarf. And if you have all dwarves in your party, elves will act with open disgust toward you, and you can firebomb their homes and blow them up with dynamite.

Well there's LOTR: Return of the King. You can play as Gimli in quite a lot of chapters, even the ones he wasn't canonically in :D
