"They were all dead"
points to you if you don't have to be told what game is it from. doesn't sound particularly "great", but in the context, of menu music and looks, and... i don't know, it just was, this first sentence hooked me and kept me playing until the awesome bitter end...

GAME: This is Rupture Farms, they say it's the biggest meat processing plant on Oddworld.
MOVIE: People are always asking if I know Tyler Durden

Not a game, but the opening line of the book "Steel Beach" by John Varley: 'In five years the penis will become obsolete'. And the book just gets better from there!

"Don't forget. Some things mustn't be forgotten. The shadow hunting me, I must hurry"
Is the only one that hasn't been said that probably ought to have been

"Just shut the hell up! All the world needs is me. I've got my values so you can keep yours, alright?" from The World Ends With You would be one of my favorites. That game really doesn't get the credit it deserves.

"Listen to my story. Maybe, this is our last chance."

That is from the beginning of Final Fantasy X.

Nier has an amazing opening. Definitely the most under-rated game I've ever played, the story was superb.

"Weiss you dumbass! Start making sense you rotten book or you're gonna be sorry! Maybe I'll rip your pages out one by one, or maybe I'll put you in the god-damn furnace! How can someone with a big smart brain get hypnotized like a little ***** huh?! 'Oh Shadowlord, I love you Shadowlord, come here and give Weiss a big sloppy kiss Shadowlord!' Now pull your head outta your god-damn ass and START FUCKING HELPING US!"

"It's wet, dark and wet. The kind of weather that... penatrates. Makes your skin feel itchy and oily... dirty kind of, but real too. That's good!

It's time for Cheers. Sam and Diane, Norm Peterson, the coach. And then after he died... Woody. I don't have a TV now, but that's okay - The shows in my mind are almost always better.

... The theater crowd's just arriving.

First thing that came to mind was the intro to Half Life 2.
"Wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up, and smell the ashes..."

"I am Andrew Ryan, and I am here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?

'No,' says the man in Washington, 'it belongs to the poor.'
'No,' says the man in the Vatican, 'it belongs to God.'
'No,' says the man in Moscow, 'it belongs to everyone.'

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose...

Rapture."

It helps that it comes accompanied by one of the greatest openings in video games.

The opening of God of War 3. With epic camera work, Zeus's speech, massive Titans and the Gods leaping off Olympus is epic. And then there is Poseidon who I think should have killed Kratos and had his own series.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Hunter S. Thompson was a cool dude.

"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-eight million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea."

All the obvious ones ahve been said, so here's a less obvious book one;

"The Man in Black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed."

War.
War never changes.
Or does it?
The war has changed.
Did it?
The answer is 'No'.
Unless it is yes...
No. Of course it is. Is war.
Yes.
No.
Yes?
RED SCREEN! So realistic!
OT: Star Trek TNG, Fallout 3, AC2 win for me, for sentences. Other things win for intros and opening scenes though.
