Sinclair gently caressed his Accuracy International AW50 rifle as he took his place 25 meters away from his partner. He did this for two reasons, that if one of them were discovered the other could still function with their goal, and second that the next few shots of his rifle would blow any concept of stealth away from him in a few moments.

He took steady aim at the largest target he had available, a stone tower that probably served as a centerpoint for the first tier?s defensive line. Looking at the tower?s inhabitants through the rifle?s auramancer scope showed several beings active within the confines of the tower. Some sleeping. Others wide awake. He took note of a being in the center of the tower, apparently at a desk writing something, and then proceeded to aim his AW50.

The Black Nail aimed the rifle at the base of the tower, right at the point that weathered stone and snow met. He adjusted a knob on the rifle for .20 seconds, the knob itself labeled with the words auramancy at the bottom of the knob. He grabbed a .50 caliber round and overcharged it with as much Hellfire as he could, afterwards feeding it into the rifle with an audible click. He breathed slowly two times, then slowly pulled the trigger.

A frightening bolt of crimson energy burst from the barrel, burning through the winter sky with an almost audible scream as it quickly reached the base of the tower. The bullet would have hit the cold snow when the auramancy installed into the rifle activated. It took hold of the last person it?s user had noted, the man at his table, and the laws of magic reacted appropriately. The spell caused the bullet to spontaneously and, impossibly, change direction at the last moment, turning 75 degrees as it continued up into the tower.

The bullet pierced through a meter of solid stone, totally obliterating everything in it?s path, before it broke into pieces, the Hellfire causing structural instabilities within the round, causing it to break prematurely. However, the fragments continued moving at an insatiable speed, running up through the tower and touching more than 65 percent of it?s mass. With the fragments brought Hellfire, causing everything in their wake to burn and burn and burn in crimson fire, until what was left of the .50 round finally stopped and used up all their remaining energy at once.

The tower exploded, several metric tons of burning rock flying everywhere around the gulag. The rocks, burning with Hellfire, would come to rest all across the area, compromising defensive positions as the fire continued to burn out of control, the only thing possibly causing them to die at the will of the Thaumaturgist or extensive magic, which he doubted Drakona Zhivot?s defenses had.

He ejected the smoking shell from it?s chamber as he began to put another shell in, this time only partially charged with Thaumaturgy. The overcharged technique was only best for utter building destruction, and would not be ideal for the next shot. Sinclair activated the communicator attached to his ear.

?First strike successful, tower is destroyed. Second strike will involve the destruction of the wall to the tower?s west. Third strike will involve the destruction of an additional tower. Subsequent strikes would be focused on supplementary reinforcements for units on the ground.?

Typically, he would fire his rifle twice before changing position. Incredibly powerful though his AW50 may be, it still left a trail of destructive energy in it?s wake. He wouldn?t do that now however, they would still need several minutes to force artillery weaponry to focus on him, giving his allies more breathing room. Beyond that, he was still fairly confident of protecting himself from conventional warfare with his Thaumaturgy, for the short term at least. But the destructive power he represented would not likely go unchallenged, and Mercer would likely join the fray soon.

The Black Nail smiled ferally as he loosed another .50 caliber round. He had altered the bullet parameters such that it entered the middle of the wall and tore through it in a horizontal line. Multiple bullet fragments were left behind from the action, and when it finally exploded, the numerous fragments insured that the entire section of the wall disappeared in burning fire, allowing more of his team members easier access into the fortress.

He smirked. He wasn?t entirely certain on where Mercer was, and though he wanted to meet him in person, he realized that such an occurrence was impossible. The battle had to be won as quickly as possible, while the Black Nail still had the advantage. Sinclair noted the tower Ulrich had fired at with distaste. The inhabitants would be able to trace the bullet back to his partner, and while Sinclair was rapidly losing his opportunity to fire at will, he wished to preserve Ulrich?s combat ability. So, he activated his auromancy scope and took aim at someone on the higher sections of the tower, after that was done he aimed at the base of the tower and lightly began to pull on the trigger.

Baltreth

Yes Mr. Sinclair?

This will likely be the last shot I can make before significant Imperiomancer assaults begin on my mind. I require you to protect me from Mercer and give me enough time to communicate with him should it occur.

....very well...

Sinclair smiled as he pulled the trigger.

Samuel followed the group through the demolished gate. He could only hear sporadic shots.
Seems like the surprise attack was a success and no sign of artillery fire yet.
Last night, he spent about 2 hours memorizing every single detail of the gulags map. He knew, where the artillery was and was just about to give Wallowitz the signal to separate from the group to take care of it when suddenly a nearby tower exploded. Burning remains were raining down on them.

Hellfire. Sinclair!

[font color="grey"]Wow! You know, I tend to think it would have been better if I was Sinclair's partner.

Then, one of the things he thought was rubble, stood up and stumbled towards them, screaming full of agony. Sam didn't want to know what would happen, if the hellfire touches him.
He raised his hand and created a barrier around the human torch. The screams couldn't be heard anymore. It tried to escape the barrier, but it was useless and soon it wasn't moving anymore. Samuel had a lump in his throat.

He heard a hollow bang. Obviously the enemy managed to man the artillery.
"Everyone! Get closer to me!" yelled Sam while preparing for making a bigger barrier.
He had no time checking if everyone made it so he just raised the almost completely transperent barrier.
All noise simply stopped. He watched the silent explosion when it was hit.

Fascinating every time.

Explanation barrier-magic

P1 meaning position one. He can be inside the barrier.
P2 meaning position two. He can be outside the barrier.
Sam can set up barriers up to a distance of 30 meters.
The further away or bigger the barrier, the weaker it gets.
Moving the barrier is possible, but difficult for Sam. Dendra can move barriers more easily.

I just had feeling that I had to say this.

Astos went to where his servants were, gathered around a window where real space fluxed with the Far Veil. His Silent Ones conferred in their droning language, chattering and exchanging handshakes and small black chits, money. They were betting on the battle. Astos slipped past them, to their awe, and entered the gutted tower as it wobbled precariously. His shadowy, almost intangible form melting out of the Far Veil and towards the man crouched behind his desk, burned and scarred. Forming a ball of dark nothingness in his palm he pulled the oxygen out of the air, snuffing the fire a little and, realizing it was hellfire, spat at it and brought himself between the man and the bullets whizzing into the room. A bullet passed through Astos, disintegrating as it enters his massive shape as it fluxed and changed rapidly. The man had no fear, only bewilderment as he wrapped him into his black cloak and they both suddenly fluxed and entered the Far Veil. Astos knew this was the man who had been using his Silent Ones, which he had allowed for the time being... reconnaissance of any kind was still good, and if this man could be manipulated he could become an asset. He passed out as soon as the transition was complete, but the Silent Ones did not notice, too focused on the battle.

What you see is a shadowy shape suddenly appear near Lazlo and engulf him before quickly vanishing, floored by the powerful projectile and dazed his Imperomancy will not be a factor in this assault. He is now in the employ of Astos the Deceiver, and will be in the Far Veil for the rest of this first chapter.

As soon as the shower of stony remains stopped, Kishima saw that the guards were regrouping. Ready to attack. At first they fired the guns but Samuel's barrier was too strong for them. They drew their swords and charged the group. Kishima calmly spoke into his head piece:

"Sinclair hold your fire. We are about to engage the guards in close quarters."

Without further instructions he charged. He faced against their first wave. 5 guards. As he ran towards them he threw 2 knifes from his belt instantly killing 2 of the guards. With his sword high he slashed through the first guard. Dodged a horizontal slash, then stabbed with his kunai. 1 remained. The other guards started circling him.

"If you're waiting for a dramatic charge, now's the time!" he shouted back at the group.

"What is it Darkling scared to die?" said the guard

"I do not fear death!"

The guard brought down his heavy broadsword onto Kishima's head but Kishima rolled to the left dodging the fatal blow. Quickly he slashed at the leg bringing his foe down and killing him.

<font color=green> Mate behind you!

Quickly Kishima turned and raised a hand to block the blow from behind. To his surprise the sword did not go through his hand. The blade stopped. Another blade grew in its place from underneath Kishima's wrist.

What's this ?

<font color=green> A gift. Now use it!

Kishima did as he was told and using his new blade hands he slashed through his attacker and returned to his feet. They still had him surrounded.

I just found out that my Illrian gave me Baraka like hands as a bonus. Also I decided to change my character's appearance. He looks like this now:

Wake up

Ryan popped on his gas mask and charged in, War in hand.

He fired into the clones as he ran through them, screaming in joy as he dropped them.
When he neared Kishima, he dropped War and drew Fury.
He shot one of them with it and tackled the closest one, acid spilling out of the blade as he began stabbing him.

Gremlin had jumped on another one of the clones from behind and was in the process of decapitating him as he screamed in pain.

I'll have better quality posts soon.

Ana and the others had managed to infiltrate the main structure. The winding hallways had given many opportunities for ambush. But their diligence had paid off. As they descended a short flight of stairs, the cement walls became stone, and it was soon clear they were making their decent into the belly of the beast.

Outside, the clones had redoubled their efforts, and had reorganized using subroutines implanted in them. Their tactics became sharper, their fighting faster, stronger, smarter.

Up in their perch, Ulrich and Sinclair were firing away, dropping men with ease. Suddenly Ulrich did a double take through his scope. "Sinclair, we have a problem. Guns up!" He suddenly scrambled for a bag of gear, inside was a gas powered zip line gun. As he began setting it up, one of the artillery guns on the tower was lining up a shot. He fired the zip line gun and managed to stick it to the base of the tower.

"Time to-" Suddenly an artillery round blew the side off the mountain. As the rubble and dust cleared by falling off the cliff, Ulrich finished. "..Go,..."

He set up the zip line and grabbed his gear. "Lets go Sinclair." Once safely on the ground, Ulrich ran for cover, He found it in the archway of one of the main gates.

The group inside had disposed of the guards in the top half of the elevator shaft relatively easily. They waited, however Ana was growing impatient. "Somebody knock out the detonator charges. We need to get in now!

Meanwhile Samuel and Wallowitz were using the distraction Ryan and Kishima created and headed for the artillery. The last shot hit unsettling near to the snipers. He didn't want deaths just because he wasn't able to accomplish his assignment.
They took cover near the artillery unnoticed.

Should be close enough.

[font color="grey"]What are you gonna do? Charge in there, killing us both?

Nope. Something easier.

Sam saw the crew reloading and readying another round. He concentrated on the muzzle and created a barrier at the end of it, effectively closing it.
The artillery fired and the barrel cracked open on all of its length.
Shrapnel injured most of the crew.

[font color="grey"]That was... somewhat disappointing. I expected it to explode.

He looked at Wallowitz. "The next one."

Sinclair cursed as he grabbed the zip line, and attached it to the harness at his belt, his attire being a custom made combat armor built by the Thaumaturgy. As he prepared for the immediate jerk, he reflected on how bad it is carting around an anti-material rifle like this.

The AW50 was an absolute beast in terms of damage output, both because of the damage created through Thaumaturgy but also because of the fact that, as an anti-material rifle, it?s already built to destroy tanks and fortifications. To do this job, it has a great amount of gear built inside it to facilitate this job. As a result, in Kessler?s quaint words, the thing was fucking heavy. 15 kilograms of pure force being carried around like an assault rifle was not an easy thing, especially considering that unless he activated his Illrian form, he was operating with peak human conditions. Which would still think 15kg as a damn heavy thing.

He jumped as the zip line began to do it?s job and he sped forward into the Gulag, thankfully sustaining little fire as the rest of his companions were busy disturbing them. At least, until he reached the bottom.

Immediately in front of him was a target, one carrying a machine rifle and something he couldn?t afford to fire on right now. Besides the fact that firing the rifle right now would break his arm from the highly uncomfortable position, push his body backwards badly enough that it would slow him down while also feeling like a sledgehammer to the chest and alert all nearby enemies to his position by the very loud shout of an AM rifle, there was also the fact that the shell currently inside was primed with Hellfire, and should he fire, it was highly likely the entire building in front of him would crash down in a burning heap of destruction.

So, as the Black Nail considered all this options, he did the most logical thing in his position.

As his speed peaked, and the enemy began to notice him, Sinclair very calmly disengaged his connection to his zipline, causing him to free fall for a few seconds before his feet impacted the man?s chest. They both fell down, Sinclair following up with the impromptu drop kick by using his AM rifle to club the man?s head, dazing him for the few moments it took for Sinclair to pull out his Stetyr TMP.

The man below him had exactly a second to widen his eyes in shock as Sinclair reduced his face into red and white streaks all across the ground. He kept up fire even as the head exploded, concentrating for a split second on the chest as he riddled that with bullets as well.. He stood still for a moment, the pain in his knees from the impact still being felt as he began to stand up.

Well then Sinclair, do you highlight as a superhero while not being, well, you?

Sinclair groaned and deigned not to answer the question. He placed the AM rifle into the container that had been hanging onto his back the entire time. Within it was his other rifles, the Walther WA 2000, the Zastava M76, and the SA80, all of whom?s weight was negated due to the container?s own magical properties. He pulled out the SA80, cocking it as he activated the enchantments built into it, and placed his AW50 in to replace it, strapping the container back into it?s place on his back as he did so.

Sinclair, behind you!

He heard both Baltreth?s warning and the familiar grinding metal sound as a shotgun was aimed at his head. Sinclair growled, ruthlessly invading the man?s mind and flooding it with rage and spite so black that the man backed away in pain.

The counter-attack was swift and cruel. Sinclair turned and punched the man in the general direction of his face, managing to hit him in the throat as he did so. As the target retched, he grabbed a fist full of the man?s hair and tore it off, causing a moan of pain that would have been a scream if his throat was still intact.

At a snarl, the fist in which the hair was enclosed in exploded into crimson fire, resulting in the enemy shuddering for a moment. With a savage snarl of spite and victory, he made a pulling motion with his fist, causing the man?s heart, lungs, spinal column and intestines to be viciously ripped out of his body. The spine?s vicious relocation to outside the body dragged the base of the skull with it as well, resulting in a disgusting mass of organs, vile bodily fluids and bone scattered all around him.

Sinclair breathed quietly for a few moments before he bent down and looted the body. The weapon he had come across was actually a Saiga-12, a 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun used by Russia's Ministry of the Interior. Considering that Mercer was allied with the Red Star, this was only natural. He grabbed the weapon, as well as the strap that the dead man had worn which carried four additional 10 round magazines besides the one already in the chamber. He wore the ammunition strap, as well as wearing the strap attached to the shotgun so he could just leave the weapon hanging. As he began to chase after Ulrich, he activated his comm system.

"Black Nail to Ulrich. Do you have any idea where Mercer's room is? I want to loot it for information before he or his minions decides to burn their sensitive documents."

I must say Mr. Sinclair, is this what you do with every weapon that gets your fancy? Take it from the dead body of their previous owners?

Sinclair smirked. "Yep."

Just a minor note, as I seem to have misread something while researching the AW50. While it is a bolt action rifle, it's fed using a 5 round magazine system, while I was thinking it was purely a bolt, pull back, ka-chunk, reload, push back in system. However, how I wrote it before made it applicable either way. So yeah, felt like I had to point that out.

Additionally, to give a general outline of what Sinclair looks like in his combat attire, imagine Specialist Cross from Prototype and that hits the nail pretty well.

Wallowitz sprinted out and ran up the ramp to the artillery platform. Two men opened fire on her. However they had left the artillery Guy on loaded only with the powder charge. She pulled the pin and lobbed a grenade down the barrel. Suddenly a large explosion of smokeshot out both ends, to which Wallowitz was quick to charge. As the smoke cleared, the was simply standing there, rubbing the smudges off a brass knuckle. The two men now bloodied and unconscious.

Ulrich looked through the short range scope. Aside from Dreadnought, he had the Wilser mk2. An American made assault rifle known for its easy modification into various roles. The Rhyle loved to give them to designated marksmen, the hybrid of infantry and sniper, typically assigned to support a fire team. He was stuck in a shoot out with three clones, trying to gain leverage on the stairs leading to the top of the perimeter wall. "Sorry, we never got that Intel. My guess would be inside the main structure, of directly beneath it, like a safe house."

Finally the cables were cut and the explosives rendered useless. The team assembled onto the elevator as it went down. Nathan reiterated orders. "Kishima, Hadrian, when we get down their, we will be heading down one of 8 shafts that split off. You two stay at the entrance. Kill any son of a ***** dumb enough to try to stop us. Rena, you and Ana are with me. We will extract the target."

A few moments passed by. He looked at Anastasia. "You ready?"
She nodded.
"You sure?"
She looked up at him. "You know my reasons. I've waited 6 years for this. I need him back, just like you do."
"Why?" Nathan was puzzled by her tone, the answer was obvious however.
"Because if he doesn't have what we need..... well.. if your world was going to end tomorrow, who is the one person you would want with you today?"
"Fair enough...."
She pulled out the machine pistol and pulled the hammer back as the elevator hit the ground.

Anthiel was in a strange spot.

Being a large target, Anthiel was sure it would be easily picked out in the mayhem caused of the attack. But its white carapace blended well with the snow, a blinding glint amongst a thousand blinding glints.

The attack was well underway when Anthiel skidded down the slope and effortlessly loped up the walls, flinging a sentry from the parapet as it lept onto the platform.

It had little in the way of specific orders other than to 'make a distraction'. Anthiel was very good at that, a combination of Anthem's instinct for combat and Seleda'an's own experience.

A talon through the throat of one clone soldier, a wing-blade through the abdomen of another. Anthiel danced a gracefully lethal dance across the gulag's walls, leaving a train of crimson mist and eerily peaceful bodies, but still felt unguided.

It activated its comm. "Anthiel here. Where do you want me?"

Kishima heard Anthiel's message and thought for a second. Him and Hadrian could hold the entrance against the clones for some time but they could easily be overwhelmed. They needed someone like Anthiel to aid in defending the entrance.

"Nathan, requesting permission to have Anthiel help us in holding the entrance. We will be able to hold the entrance for longer with a little bit of help." he said.

Turning to Hadrian he surveyed their location.

<font color=green> What are you thinking ?

I know that we can't sit here in the open. They'll pick us off easily.

"Hadrian I suggest we get to a hiding spot and ambush any clones who think about chasing after Nathan. I can take them out silently with my bow and I'm sure you have some sort of gun to be able to take them out without putting ourselves in harms way. Also I'll rig some traps here in front of the entrance just in case."

He turned to the entrance and laid down a poisoned bear trap, which he covered with snow and then he retreated 15 meters away from the entrance and readied his bow.

Hadrian looked at Kishima and smirked.

"I have no need of guns," He had his katars strapped onto his arms. "I DO have throwing knives, but I would rather fight them up close."

He lowered into a stance, akin to that of an animal ready to pounce on its prey. He looked eager, ready to cut through the hordes of clones that would soon be flooding the entrance.

A small chuckle elicited from the Illrian, causing his eyes to narrow slightly.

I just can't wait to see all of your blood spill all over the snow.

Hadrian didn't bother giving a reply to Phaedra, choosing to keep his eyes on the entrance.

"This won't be an issue, I hope?"

A rather crappy post. I'll try to bump in the quality in my next one.

"Aye Hadrian. I imagine you would be quite the fighter but how long until they overwhelm you? Plus your Katar will not defend you from their bullets!"

Kishima stopped. He heard rapid footsteps approaching their position. Around 30 pairs of footsteps on the snow. They had less than 2 minutes until the entrance would be swarming with the clones. They had to act now and hope that Anthiel would arrive as reinforcements.

"Hadrian, whatever you're going to do, do it fast if you want to meet them head on then I shall join you."

Might seem like a weak post but this is just setting up the final stand we are going to have unless we get back up

He sat behind the rubble, waiting for the clones to come, ready to kill.

Ana and Nathan looked around them. All signs of the cell block numbers had been removed, so there was no telling which one held their target.
Ana thought for a moment. It was time to think outside the box. Her mind went to briefings, intelligence, facts and tips. K most men were thrown in here until they died. Kin was different, they had most likely been experimenting on him. So they were.... taking him back and forth from the pit..... not taken...
"Dragged..." she looked on the ground, and sure enough, one of the paths had sets of drag marks going along with footprints in the dirt. "This way." She said to Rena and Nathan. They began to descend the dark dank path that would end in insanity for most.

Samuel sat inside the elevator. When he wanted to leave, Nathan stopped him telling him to watch over it. His job was simple:

If somebody gets too close to the elevator, put up a barrier around and hold it until help arrives.

Sam used the time to relax, unsheathing his tanto and playing around with it.
He was glad he didn't need to go in there, though he wanted to take a look at Kin as soon as possible. He was eager to try his healing skills in an emergency, but wasn't dumb enough to actually wish for one.

He sighed and closed his eyes.

The screech of talons on concrete, gunfire panging off metal, and the wet sound of flesh tearing heralded Anthiel's rush toward Hadrian and Kishima's location, carving a crimson path on the way.

Anthiel ran, nearly vertically, down the wall to take position next to Kishima and Hadrian, landing amidst a snowpile that scattered crystals of ice and snow across its white shell, glittering strangely in the light. It lowered its gaze to the other two.

"We shall hold the line."

The long, winding cave held a dank smell. Echoes could be heard. Sounds of fighting resonated through the halls of the whole structure. Finally they came to the end. There stood a simple cage, and though their light could not fully illuminate what was in front of them, they knew what they saw. The mass of filth curled up in the fetal position, shivered. They could hear his breathing. "I am Nicholaus Kin. I am Rhyle." He repeated this over and over, his back to them. On the walls were scores of writing.
"The wind blew echoes and dust. Moonless night. Feathers without wings, wings without feathers. And in the end the beast shall be one. And he likened himself to the beast and the people worshipped it as their god, and this gave the beast power. The tongues of the old be cut, so youth may dwell in foolishness. Eyes that do not see, mouths will not taste. And the beast turns the stone saying here to you I reveal all wisdom of the light as false hood. And again the people worshipped the beast. The people will seek water, but find salt in their mouths and chalk in their toungue. The beast shall his third time rise up, this time taking water from the light, and to this the people will.pledge their allegiance to the beast. Ten thousand ears will listen for silence and will hear hearts beating. The beating shall haunt as no other and the hearts become inescapable tombs for the weary of soul....." the writing went on and on, covering the cell. Finally, Nathan picked the lock and opened the door. Ana was in in a flash."I ccmon Nicholaus , time to go."
She hugged him, but he lay still. She turned him over.
"I think he is in shock." Nathan said " start moving him." Together they took him over their shoulders and carried him, Rena leading the way.

Hadrian was cutting through the hordes of clones that came his way.

A couple of bullets had ripped through his shoulder, but he was able to ignore it for the most part, continuing his assault. He would take care of it later.

"How are you guys holding up?" He called over his shoulder, having ran through another clone. It reached out for Hadrian's throat, intent on at least strangling him, but it had it's own head removed clean from it's shoulders.

Kashima charged down on a couple of clones which were threatening his left flank.

Running forwards he cut a clone at the middle using his katanas, blocked two incoming hits one from the left and one from the right and in a second he managed to stab both attacks at the same time using his dual katanas.

However they were stuck.

A huge sword was heading towards his head. Kishima rolled back and used his Illrian hand blades to block the blow and slash at the neck. He picked up his katanas again... POW... a rifle shot went through his left leg bringing him down to a knee.

"Could be better Hadrian. I've just been shot in the leg. Fuck it hurts. It's nothing serious but I can't stand up properly. Let's hope they get back soon or this will turn out in a final stand real fast."

Kishima felt that this was no ordinary bullet but something magic infused for he now could not move his leg at all. He had to take the bullet out or he'd die. So he retreated and sat against the wall trying to perform the leg surgery on himself.

"I'd really appreciate a bit of cover while I take this thing out of my leg!"
