Hello, I've been reading through quite a few rp's on The Escapist, and I was interested to try out an idea of my own, so, without further ado, my crack at a cyberpunk RP. The idea is to fully run it if I get (around) five sheets that interest me, if not, the project will be scrapped.

In the year 2099, the world took a turn for the worse and degenerated into a series of crime filled metropolises. Out of the chaos, private corporations arose and started to administer tight authority over the cities that remained. For a while this method worked, but as many know, authoritarianism just breeds more crime, though now instead of murder, the number one crime has been cyber space hacking. Now the year is 2145, and you are a group of elite deckers and samurai drafted by a new budding corporation with unknown motives.

1. No God-modding, Trenchcoating, or Mary Sue-ing
2. No one line responses, (barring something such as giving a quick answer) put as much detail as possible into your posts.
3. Stick with it, if you intend to be inactive for any reason for a period of three or so days, tell me or you will be written out
4. No NSFW posts
5. Have fun and try to be nice

Name: (Character Name)
Gender: (Male or Female)
Class: (Either a Samurai or a Decker, Samurai are more adept at tasks in the real world while Deckers work better in cyberspace)
Appearence: (Either write it out or post a picture)
Personality: (Try to make it a bit flawed to add some realism)
Bio: (Give a summary of your life, and tell how and why this corporation contacted you)
Starting equipment: (Deckers will probably start with a cyberdeck and a small melee weapon, Samurai can be a bit more creative with their selection.)

Thanks for looking over this, feel free to leave constructive criticisms or character sheets.

Name: Tetsuya Minami
Gender: Male
Class: Half-breed (excels more as a fighter)

Appearence: A kid with short, silver spiky hair, Tetsuya sports a silver long sleeve jacket, opened to reveal his balck shirt underneath. He has dual colored (black on the inside half, and silver on the outside half) pants and shoes to match. He also has (for accessories) a clear set of googles covering his eyes and stylish headphones that doubles as a music device (custom-made)

Personality: A joker, he doesn't take anything seriously. He absolutely loves animes, video games, etc. His joking around does nearly cost him his life, but he's courage and strength is what causes him to succeed. He has a good heart, and will do what HE thinks is right. Definitely the sterotypical cyberpunk kid.

Bio: A rogue hacker, self taught, Tetsuya had on his own taken down some of the biggest criminals in the city. Initially, he killed the gang leaders and stole what they had, but eventually he has too much money on his hands, and after seeing what taking out on gang leader could do, he decides to make a living off of it. Tetsuya also developed a skill where he can "Sync" with the cyberworld in order to use it as a superhighway. He is called by the Organization due to this unique ability, but he is wary about the Organization's TRUE intentions.

Nicknamed "Cyber-1," Tetsuya has plenty of signatures, such as his calling card "Hello World."

Starting equipment: A mercenary, he has a sword vambrace on his left arm, along with a Glock 17 pistol in his right.

Name: Marko Alexander
Gender: Male
Class: Decker
Appearance: Marko is 21 years old and five feet eight inches tall with a sturdy build. His skin is very pale, but his hair is extremely dark. One of his eyes is a startlingly bright green, and the other is brown. He always wears a faded red sweatshirt and baggy, dark brown pants.
Personality: Marko is certifiably insane. In most situations, he seems normal enough, if a little loud, and he generally tries to solve disputes in the fairest way possible. This all changes when his life is on the line. When Marko knows he may be killed, he becomes a single-minded killing machine, even enjoying murder, until the danger has passed. This violence never shows in any other way, so Marko constantly wonders where it comes from.
Bio: Marko has lived on the streets since he was 6, so he wasn't exactly born with a sense of trust. He spent years as a pickpocket until he was old enough to work at an airship dock. Although this gave him a strong body and enough money to get by, he seemed to be on the fast track to dying young and poor. Eventually, though, he was seen as a potentially amazing decker by a team of professional speedhackers (sort of like hacking turned into a team sport). As he learned the trade, Marko used his newfound abilities to capitalize on the feudalistic society that had become of earth. As a mercenary, Marko is known as one of the best, but he sticks to a strict code of conduct that prevents him from killing millions of innocents with his actions he is hired to infiltrate and destroy a city (which is usually well within his abilities.)
Starting Equipment: Marko carries a gray small-caliber pistol and a thin three-foot metal rod with a rubber handle and a taser at the end that can render a man unconscious.

Name: Scott

Gender: Male

Class: Samurai

Appearence: Scott is 6'4" and 250lbs, average build. Scott is Caucasian with a mid completion, he has dark brown hair that is buzzed and has completely black eyes (its almost seems like he has no eyes at all). Scott wears a black t-shirt and dark blue jeans.

Personality: Scott is very serious and concentrated on the task at hand. He works to get the job done, quickly and safely. Scott's greatest strength is part his personality. Scott is a great persuader, a silver tongue; he has the gift of speech. (His appearance helps too) Scott on the other hand often acts without thinking, getting himself into trouble that could otherwise be avoided. His seriousness often leads to a lack of trust in others that more often then not, turns around and bites him. Scott also suffers from an acute fear of cyberspace.

Bio: Scott lived in the poor part of the city growing up. He didn't have as much exposure to cyberspace as the next person. That never bothered him much though. Scott grew up and went to school like any other boy; he would often get into fights... and lose. When Scott turned 17 he experienced a massive growth spurt and those fights he once lost... he began winning. This is something Scott enjoyed, so he decided to pursue combat training. Scott bounced in and out of gyms and dojo's never really getting a full education of any art. Scott's first experience with cyber hacking was an odd one. He screwed up big time causing the computer he was working on to malfunction and explode. The resulting explosion blinded Scott for 3 weeks and changed his eyes forever. All colour seemed to be lost but in the most peculiar way, rather then going completely white, his pupils, irises, and the rest of his eyeballs turned a glossy black. It didn't affect his sight.
Scott continued to work odd jobs, when he was approached by a gang to run protection for their hacking jobs. Scott quickly refused in the fear of another computer incident, but eventually agreed and fell in love with the work. Scott still fears cyberspace more then anything else. He got extremely proficient at what he did. Scott was just recently approached by the corporation to run with a particularly special team.

Starting equipment: Flat Black .50 Desert Eagle, Collapsible Steel Baton.

Name: 3W-2950 (often 3W for short)
Class: Decker
Appearance: A matte black cuboid measuring 25cm by 10cm by 5 cm, capable of displaying patterns of light on it various surfaces. It can extrude small wheels and manipulator arms that allow it to get around in the base reality on it's own, but otherwise it has few features
Personality: A laid back hedonist, 3W is unusual amongst most AIs in that a part of his behavioral programming makes him not only benevolent but so relaxed that he does not want to work, unless he finds it interesting. As such, he is mostly unemployed, and chooses only to take up jobs he judges to be interesting. To make hacking jobs more interesting, he prefers to make hacking attempts while downloaded into a remote drone rather than directly from the datasphere, as he feels it makes them more of a challenge.
Bio: Created during an experiment to develop artificial intelligence to new levels of apparent sentience, 3W was brought into being, questioned, analysed, edited and re-analysed for a number of years. At the end, he and his fellow AIs were given the choice between voluntary deactivation and the freedom of the datasphere, and 3W was one of those who chose life. In the years since, he has spent the time working on a method of hacking to get into systems cut of from the datasphere, involving being downloaded into a drone and deployed into the vicinity of the systems in question, then hacking by hardlink
Starting specifications: AI core equal to 1.3 human basic (where 1.0 is equal to average intelligence), power supply sufficient for 36 hours without recharge, voice synth, Manipulator arms (able to lift it's own wait, or connect with nearby hardware), wireless connection, taser defense (can shock things that come into contact with it's casing)

Name: Damien Lier
Gender: Male
Class: Samurai
Appearance: standing at 6'7", with raven black hair and ice-cold blue eyes that can freeze you to the spot, Damien is a force to be feared. To cover up his eyes, Damien often wears a pair of shades that have sonar, night vision, infrared, and thermal built in. There is a cross-shaped scar on Damien's right hand, identifying who he is. He will occasionally wear a fingerless glove over that hand when going out in public. Damien wears baggy military pants, a blue t-shirt, and a black flak jacket that he always leaves unzipped. He also often has his katana hanging on his left side. The katana is beautifully made, with a white grip and an immaculate blade that looks sharp enough to scythe through the air itself.
Personality: Damien is quite laid back, often found sleeping when you want him most. He is also good-natured, not getting riled up at even the most offensive of insults. However, when in a fight, Damien is cold hearted and uncaring, getting the job done no matter what. He would rather avoid killing, often giving the enemy a chance to surrender and just let him walk by. Sadly, no one has yet taken him up on this offer.

Bio: Damien had been born to the master of a legendary dojo, where he learned the way of the sword. However, his father had been killed in his sleep when Damien was only 15, the cowards too afraid to attack the man when he was awake. Damien took up his father's sword, the Killing Rain and hunted all those men down, killing them with the techniques his father had taught him. Damien then roamed the world for some time as a mercenary, gaining a name for himself as Leviathan, for the massive monster that roamed the oceans in the beginning of the world, uncontested in its dominance. Even in the modern world, Damien is able to keep up, roaming this unforgiving world with only a sword. The Yansec Company contacted him with promise of a fulfilling contract, and Damien immediately accepted.
Starting equipment: Killing Rain, several throwing knives for long range.

Bump, I gotta say, while I didn't expect the idea to be a huge hit, I expected a few more than this, haha

How long you been RPing? Out of the escapist that is.
I mostly observe others, but I've participated in one or two before the summer, and just started getting back into once it ended

See, the main reason why people may not sign up is because you're new here and don't know how you RP. If you look at most of my characters you'll see I like to play the weird, slightly (or full on)crazy one. It's were I feel comftable and have the mos fun. If you were to participate in another couple of escapist RP's I'm sure people would be more likely to join your RP's. But that's my theory.

Yeah, it makes sense, but I figured I should at least give it a shot.

Fard has a point; people rarely want to join RPs by people they don't know. IN my case, I waited for about six months, during which I played every RP I could find, before trying to create my own, and it still didn't go too well. People want to know who you are, what you're like to play with, and if they can trust you to be a good GM.

On the other hand, I'm always on the lookout for new talent, and I'm tempted to join here. Give me a reserve, and I'll have a sheet up soon.

EDIT: If you want to enrich your RPing experience, I advise you join up here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/The-RP-Regulars-definitely-not-the-3W-Stalker-Club?added=1#], which is a group I made for the RPers of the escapist. They will welcome you, teach you, tell you about new RPs and generally improve your life in the RP section

Right, I understand that it was a long shot, but like you said, I figured the best way to get myself out there was to jump right in, and of course you can have a reserve.

I might be interested. Depends on the other people you get in. I'll put in a tentative reserve.

Yo, this soudns interesting...
Since my old rp ended, I can probably join this one provided that it gets started.
I won't lie: There might be times when I can't be here, and I do kinda God-Mod, but I'm a relatively a decent RPer (no one's got style like me :p).

Name: Tetsuya Minami
Gender: Male
Class: Half-breed (both decker and samurai, jack of both, master of none.)

Bio: A rogue hacker, Tetsuya had on his own taken down some of the biggest criminals in the city. However, after a botched attempt, he decides to join anyone for the good of the city. He initially seems wary of the Organization, and wants to see what they have to offer.

Starting equipment: A mercenary, he has a sword vambrace on his left arm, along with a Glock 17 pistol in his right.

It's alright, but I'd prefer the Bio to be a bit longer, and as for the class, both classes CAN go to cyberspace, the class just determines whether they're more skilled in cyberspace or in reality, so it'd be better if you chose one. Fix those up and you're in.

As for people asking for reserves, I suppose that'll be alright, just post your characters when you get finished making them.

I like the "all around kinda class"

The only reason that I'd prefer if you didn't is because if your character runs into any conflict with people in either the real world or cyberspace, he would most likely lose if he chose not to specialize in one, though if you really want to keep the half and half I guess it's fine, also the bio looks a bit better (but it looks like you accidently removed the reason the Company contacted him) so post again with what you decide with the class, and add just a little something on why he was called and you're in.

Alright, just look up.
