In response to seeing the hate thread posted earlier today yesterday, I think I need to balance it out.

What really makes you happy?

It can be the actions of people around you, the world around you, the small things in life that make you smile, things you do that make you feel great, anything.

For myself personally? I like the feeling I get when I help people out, both on the internet and off. I also really like it when I see people help a senior who has dropped a big bag of groceries. I saw that today and it reminded me that there are good people out here in this world of ours.

I also really like dreaming and sleep so I guess I better wrap this up.

Come on Escapist, don't worry! Be happy!

This [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZXf5Hgl4o0] song always makes me happy; it reminds me of past summers spent fooling around with my cousins. Good times.

Just hanging out with my friends that are not some douchebags and I can really be who I really am.
You stole Onyx's avatar?!
That's just wrong, man.

On topic: Hayao Miyazaki movies always put a smile on my face.
It's a kind of childlike, innermost joy.

I was just thinking that. Is Onyx aware of this avatar theft?

A game of TF2 with the guys [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Escapist-Team-Fortress-2-Group-PC] always puts one in a good mood.

Failing that, bacon.

I know it's terrible every time I go on a thread with him on it I'm all like, "Hey it's Onyx Oblivion..."

I thought that the name and avatar didn't match.

WTF King_Burger?

OT: Happiness... uh

Well a good clip of Blackadder does that.

Something quite brilliant made me happy last night, but the text is going to be long, so if you want cheering up, read. If not, shame on you.

Last night, I went to my friend's brother's 21st. Up until that night, I'd been bizarrely misanthropic and didn't really care for anything, but seeing about 200 family and friends all smiling, laughing, dancing and singing all night nearly brought a tear to my eye. It was really something amazing, I've never been in such a positive atmosphere, it was amazing.

Later on, a friend of mine told me that my Ex had split up with her current boyfriend on account of him being an absolute penis. We went out twice, and she kinda messed me around both times. When she met this guy, I wanted to keep him away from her, because I knew what he was like (He asked a female friend of mine to strip on webcam for him, constantly pestering her and telling her how nice of an arse she had and stuff), but she wouldn't have any of it. We had been best friends for ages, but she shelved me as soon as she had met this guy and practically ignored me. There were a lot of complicated things to do with our relationship that went on.

Anyway, she re-added me on BlackBerry messenger that night, and started talking to me. She was telling me all about how I was right about him and how she should have listened. At this point, all I could think about was how much I wanted to rub salt into the wound, but I didn't in the slightest, I just kept telling her that it was over and she could be happy again. She was really worried that she would be called a slag for going out with two lads that were older than her, and I just told her that she was lovely and had no need to worry, because if they did, I'd have a word with them. She asked me why I was being so nice after everything she'd said and done to upset me, and I just told her that it was because I was her friend.

Needless to say, I was so proud of myself for being the bigger man, and always being there for people who needed me. Being a good person is so emotionally rewarding. Last night is going to be a night I remember for the rest of my life, it was truly wonderful.

That was my story. :D

Things just about completely guaranteed to make me happy:

1) Cuddling a girl. My single favorite thing in the world to do. Clothed, naked, sexually, platonically, on a couch, on a bed, in the park, or just lazing around, things go better with someone to snuggle.

2) Reading a book outdoors when the weather's perfect. I get to do this on campus and it never, ever feels like "work". (now if only I can figure out a way to combine this with item #1.)

3) 19th-century operatic overtures. Strauss, Rossini, Bizet...the best part of any opera is so often the overture---and yes, I DID watch a lot of cartoons as a kid. How'd you know?

4) Hitting the "." key at the end of the last word of a long piece (>1000 words) that I've written. After crafting something, being able to end the last sentence with a flourish and a clever turn of phrase keeps me coming back to write more for anyone who cares to read it.

5) The sport of boxing. It's been 16 years since the last time I stepped into a ring (heart condition + shoulder injury = no organization in its right mind would let me fight), but I still watch religiously whenever a fight's on TV or the Internet. Even the dull, predictable fights (watching Wladimir Klitschko fight is like watching a beaver chew down a tree. You know what's coming, one bite at a time.) I'll watch 'em all. (and once again, best if combined with item #1---a girl who's a fight fan will go far with me.)

Me too, unless I'm in a debate with someone, then I'm worried I put forth a really crappy argument that just got torn to pieces.
OT: Learning to play a new song on guitar.

Weee!

Isn't it exciting? The joy that you have been noticed, mixed in with a pang of uncertainty as to the nature of the response?

It does come with a rather nice sense of vindication and a little pick me up.
