Has Melissa McCarthy ever done anything actually good? Because I've never seen her do something that was good.
She was good in Gilmore Girls, probably because she wasn't going for the pratfall jokes. She was very much a Diane Wiest-esque character.

She was pretty good as Sean Spicer on SNL, but that's about it.

Honestly would work better if they weren't trying to make it a comedy. If you just rolled with having Muppets in a gritty crime story. Its why Who Framed Roger Rabbit worked, because it was a regular thriller that just so happened to have cartoons pop up (with added racism allegories!)
I'll admit it's been years since I've seen a Muppet movie, but were most of them played as essentially regular movies that just happened to feature Muppet characters? If I remember correctly, A Muppet Christmas Carol was a Christmas Carol/Scrooge movie first and a Muppet Movie second. And with Muppet Treasure Island I think you could have replaced all of the Muppet characters with human actors and had pretty much the same movie.

Pretty much yeah. They don't insist we find it weird or funny that Bob Cratchit is Kermit, he just is. They don't nudge and wink when Michael Caine is acting with puppet Ghosts, they let him sell it. Its part of the charm. And with Treasure Island you've got Tim Curry in there so the line between human and muppet kind of gets blurred because he's far more out there and hammy than they are
