Super ghosts and goblins. If ever get past the first level then bully for you. If you do then are still left to fight the most horrible enemy ever created; the red devils. The are so annoying because they can dodge your attacks faster than you can throw them and when they do decide to come at you (your best chance to hit them btw) you have to narrowly escape because you have to hit them twice. Oh and you if you get hit twice you die and start all the way from the beginning. If you are not G & G savvy then I must tell that if you are insane enough to actually beat the game then you victory screen is actually the princess telling to go back and do it all again and find some stupid necklace of hers on the way, oh and it is even harder the second time. Me and a friend played this one for weeks on end only to be crushed by having to do it again.

Playing Cell 7 Blast Factor on 2xAT mode. Any retail game on the hardest difficulty is usually pretty easy, some frustrating moments, but still rather straight forward.

Mega Man 9. Especially with the 360's frustrating D-pad.
I don't know about the 360 version, but on the wii version there is an achievement:
"Beat the game without taking damage"

Seriously? Seriously?
Yeah it's the same thing on 360 - it's the menu full of challenges that you have to meet? One's for killing all the bosses with the Mega Buster?

That one your're talking about is the most obscene thing I've heard of, though. That ain't right. No human should be allowed to do that.

Trying to get the parasite thing off Jill with a co-op partner on Resident Evil 5 proffesional mode. But worse is the bloody palace on Devil may Cry 4.

I still haven't unlocked the Egypt level for Goldeneye007.

But, currently, one of the most impossible tasks ever is one i'm trying to do now.

TimeSplitters 2. Arcade League. Elite. "Nice Threads". Unforgiving, all for the sake of unlocking this guy:

I wonder if IWTBTG would be easier if you weren't constantly frustrated by the game.

Also trying to beat the last part of S.T.A.L.K.E.R:Shadow of Chernobyl is hell

Oh yeah, Castle Crashers on insane is a *****. I still can't beat Lava World. Those fire demons are complete assholes.

There's this bit in LoZ: Oracle of Seasons that I actually never figured out.

It's a room with a blue floor full of squares on something called, like, the Hero's Path, and you start on this yellow square walking around the room, trying to turn all the blue squares red. Not only could I never complete it, but it was specifically designed to make it so that EVERY DAMN TIME you completed it wrong, there was always one- and ONLY one- square left you didn't get.

The programmers for those LoZ Oracle of _____ Hero's Path segments were serious jerks. The other one, in Oracle of Ages, didn't even end on a treasure chest or anything- there's just some cryptic riddle and an old guy in a wierd room.

'I wanna be the guy' is basically a rom hack - never was a real game on any console.

but that aside, try, for the orginal NES:
Ghosts and Gobblins

also for a "slightly" easier game, it's Super Ghouls and Ghosts for the SNES.

But actually in difficulty was the Giga Gaia in Chrono Trigger. I died so many times before I finally won, and shouted with triumphant glee.
It's all in the healers, man. So long as you have a fair set of healers on any RPG team, especially with reviving abilities, you're pretty much invincible.

Also, one thing I came to realize in Chrono Trigger is not to rely on simply the most defensible armor in boss fights. You'll never defeat that fire-spirit thing if you rely on simply the strongest armor.
