S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC, Cs and CoP are all very hard games. Good fun but can be damn frustrating.

I've heard that Clear Sky is a lot harder. Haven't gotten around to playing it yet tho, still messing around in SoC. It's awesome!
Edit: ninjad by OP! D:
Don't bother and skip straight to the third game. Clear Sky was a mess.
You haven't actually played it, have you?
Everyone always says to skip Clear Sky, but I played it, and with the latest patch there's less bugs than in SoC.
It's a shame, but under the bugs lies a really solid game. It still has the atmosphere and locations of SoC, with all the gear upgrading of CoP.
The major selling point of SoC is the total sandbox gameplay, which CS doesn't have much of. Granted it still has the atmosphere, but you can't just roam free like you can in SoC. Either way, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. II looks like it could be amazing.

I think I'll agree with STALKER here, that was quite a challenge indeed.

With Crysis as runner-up as well, those damned KPA soldiers could take way too many bullets. Hell, once when I was sniping with the standard rifle one just wouldn't die no matter how many rounds I put into him. Damned strange.

FEAR the AI was damn smart.
Eh I beg to differ. All they did was flank you, and once you realised that they were easily beat.

I'm going with Farcry on 360.

Stealth game where the AI can see you anywhere...Hard as fuck.
Far Cry a stealth game? Is that one or two? In both I usually just grabbed a truck, raced to an enemy compound, parked it as mobile cover and hoped I could shoot them all before the truck exploded. Usually worked.

I've always found Half-Life 2 quite difficult on normal, not really sure why.

And that kind of annoyed me about Crysis; the KPA soldiers can take far too many bullets.
They wear body armour so can take a beating to the chest, but they still get dropped by a single headshot :)

OP: Hmm, I found Crysis dead easy once I got used to the jedi powers, the only annoying thing was the x-ray-sniper vision all enemy units possessed, also known as poor stealth elements.

And this brings me to FarCry, predecessor to Crysis but this time without a super-powered-jedi suit, just a dude with a gun and an ugly shirt, it was balls hard to say the very least.
Also had the same stealth "features", the enemies would see you miles away through jungle.

So Crysis but no invisibility suit... that does not sound like fun.

Something I've noticed over the last two or three levels of the game is that the KPA, though generally very observant and very accurate, will occassionally walk past me unwittingly when I'm barely in cover or miss spectacularly easy shots - like a sniper who couldn't hit me despite the fact I was uncloaked, not moving and had my back to him while hiding from another sniper.

Those are rare exceptions though.

Also... vehicle sections... ugh.

Yeah I have. I bought it on release. I stopped playing it around the time I was getting mugged for all my equipment and bandits in leather jackets were surviving close-range shotgun blasts to the head.

If patches have sorted out a lot of the mess though then it's probably worth a look. I couldn't really get behind the faction wars system either, the loner exploration aspect of Stalker always appealed to me more.
Alright, sorry for assuming things.
I had the good fortune of buying it when the patches were out, so I never dealt with that mess.

Oh man I just remembered. Project IGI.

The earlier levels, fair doos. It was bloody fun, but really huge, difficult later levels with no save option? At least it was a game not afraid to piss people off in being difficult.

Rainbow Six New Vegas.

Not so hard but very punishing. If an enemy so much as shot at you chances are you'd die damn quickly.

Stalker: Shadow Of Chernobyl

/thread

Its hard because you have the durability of a sheet of paper, it's hard because ammo is about as easy to find as a plot in pac man and it's hard because radiation fucking everywhere.

But fuck it, I love it.
I agree. Though it does get a bit better when you get the better armour, but that just makes it feel more real, it is the armour saving you not your little fleshy self. Plus even at max equipment I still watch my back in the starting areas, caugth offgaurd a pack of dogs can still do serious damage.

Well they still shouldn't able to take anywhere near as hits as me in my buttock-defining power suit!

I think the surviving shotguns to head is a playablity decision as oppose to an error. Shotguns were made more for anti-mutant effect as oppose to anti-human and so probably counts as a spread shot all the time. I know I have seen this in CoP but in SoC and CS I always used the rifles and they take bandits down like fish in a cup.

I would say Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. Especially on some of the later mission, it gets really tough.

Crysis bugs me, too. Those bloody KPA taking 15 hits to kill...

Hardest one for me though was an online one the US military bought out a while back. They bascially made it like real life and you were not very keen to run out of cover it I will tell you. If you saw a man drop you instantly went for cover a prayed the sniper couldn't see you. You wouldn't pop your head around a corner as you might just loose it and body shots were instant kill as well, so were grenades.
I survived a grenade hit once and hobbled back up this canyon only to eventually catch a bullet (I was red and one straw short of dead, the shot was overkill).

After all of that though, I wish I could find and play it again because it is the sort of game I would like to get good at and really enjoy a game of.

Stalker was very tough at the start but it quite quickly hit a point where you became a walking god almost oblivious to bullets. That's around the time the game also became a lot less interesting.

I thought that Black was very , very difficult on the easy level. But on the hard level there are no checkpoints so you have to start the level again if you die.
