Elizabeth , from persona 3. You have a set amount of rules when facing her and its a 1 on 1 fight. I defy anyone to play the game on hard mode , fight her and then say she isn't the hardest boss , you have ever faced in your entire life .
yes she was a little ridiculous there is also Margaret from Persona 4 but I havent faced her yet but she looks a touch OP as well.

Non secret bosses I will mention silver Kasumi and Seth from Dead or Alive 4 and SFIV respectively these bosses had me swearing at a game more than I have done since the days of the SNES they just completely mess you up then when you finally win it always seems more like luck than skill.

There is a final boss at the end of wartech senko no ronde that I could not beat even on the very easy difficulty setting (could get close but after 2 hours I gave up) admittedly I am bad at this game but seriously even on the easiest difficulty he can still one shot you. I packed the game away and havent played it since.

I will also mention Prinny Baal or indeed any of the Baal incarnations from Disgaea I did not have enough patience to level to contend with this monster of a boss (or even reach him in some cases) its just ridiculous no matter what level you are (you want to be 9999) or what equipment you have he always seems to be able to one shot you.

This thing:

Just try and put up with her(?) laugh.

EDIT: I haven't played that myself, but just look at that video. Yikes. Also I heard there's a mode where you have to fight 2 of her(?) at the same time for twice the bullet hell fun.

In before [something that will inevitably come up in the thread]
Ah, thank you. I'm not new to this here part of town, but I don't know all of your new fancy fandangled abbreviations.
Pretty sure it's code for "I'm a tard". Ok, that was a joke, but I really really hate when people say that since they're the ones bringing it up and therefore are not in before "it".

On topic: Ceaseless Discharge in Dark Souls was an absolutely massive pain in the ass. Can't think of anything harder off the top of my head.

Presumably not THE hardest boss of all time, but the boss you got from the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow DLC was quite hard; I'd say he was unfair.

Also, nearly every Boss from the Metal Slug Series. I only played the games on Emulators and Compilations, but if I imagine I'd inserted money for every death I'm quite certain I'd live under a bridge by now, feeding off my own shoelaces.

Reaper Baby....

JK

I actually had a pretty tough time with the Archdemon in Dragon Age Origins the first few times I tried him. Probably the only one in recent memory I can say I honestly had a tough time with.

The toughest boss I've dealt with recently isn't a final boss. Flamelurker in Demon's Souls. So many deaths to that S.O.B.

Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? boss fight against Etna on Hard Mode I still haven't done and I gave up on it I know some crazies out there have done it but you have to go beyond masochist to be able to do that any boss that can drain 1,000 extra lives is downright ridiculous

Here's a few I can think of off the top of my head:
-The Tank (Left 4 Dead), depending on the timing of its appearance and definitely if you have to take it on solo
-Youmu Konpaku (Perfect Cherry Blossom). How hard? The fight itself gives you bullet-time, and you'd never survive without it
-Sho Minamimoto (The World Ends With You), with cheap attacks, high defense and teleportation
-Whatever the 'final' boss of Sonic Rush is called again (the one that doesn't involve flying through space)
-Lawrence Barrett (Deus Ex: Human Revolution): long, invisible health bar, can shred yours in a heartbeat, and there's three more just like him later on.

Insane shooters aside, the hardest boss I can recall is the hidden real last boss of Cave Story. Especially considering you have to survive through a rdiculously hard last level & mini boss just to get to him, he has multi forms you have to figure out the pattern for, and if you die you start over right from the beginning of the level. Ridiculously hard for a game that wasn't designed to be intentionally evil like that.

Eh, I say this because a computer has patterns that can be learned and exploited to hell over time.

A player is a player. Even if he sucked, he will still continue to get better.
Another player isn't exactly a games "Boss" though is it

There was also the final boss of Star ocean the second story. there is a limiter you can take off (and i accidentally did) at which point he will destroy you if you're below like level 250 (99 was around where i made it in the course of the regular story)
Come to think of it, the bonus dungeon bosses from every tri-ace game were stupid strong.

Ceaseless Discharge is supposed to be impossible to take one-on-one. You have to trick him into falling off a cliff, or he'll just nuke the battlefield until you die.

Anyways, I have to say the worst one I ever fought was Gwyn, Lord Of Cinder. Maybe it's because of my character build, which I actually discovered to be fairly shit; I started off with a knight, and tried to play like a thief or wanderer. I didn't even have any miracles or pyromancy. Summarily, Gwyn killed me in three seconds the first time I fought him. I could do almost nothing to him, even though I had a +5 Lightning spear, and was soul level 75-ish. I had to fight him a number of times just to learn his movements in relation to mine, continually getting steamrolled because he was just so goddamn agressive. You can't interrupt his attacks, so he doesn't have to be afraid of much. I go level grinding for a bit, get some titanite and build different weapons to try on him. Divine, Enchanted and Raw don't do shit. Then I tried fire beacuse, I don't know, I was desperate- and find that it does more damage. Apparently he's weak to fire, and has a ridiculously high lightning resistance. Odd for the "Lord of Cinder." Anyways, I get him down to a sliver of health and die for the dozenth time at least, which really pisses me off. Then, after all this, I found out that you can parry-riposte him. At which point I lost my mind, spent the next two weeks in an asylum, then visited a therapist every week for a month just to make the nightmares go away. Then beat the game.

That's why Dark Souls is such an asshole. In theory, all the bosses can be beaten easily, but you know absolutely jack shit about them from the word "go." You just have to die over and over again in vain until it gets to the point where you know everything they're going to do.

And yet somehow this is compelling.

Am I a masochist?

There's another video on YouTube showing someone beating that thing without taking a single hit, believe it or not.

They called him Nine-Ball.

[img src="http://www.gundammodelkits.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/V.I-Series-Armored-Core-Nine-Ball-Model-Kit-01.jpg" /]

Boss of multiple games in the Armored Core series. Haywire, AI controlled mech. One of the most dementedly difficult enemies ever conceived. He will rip you to shreds with his array of beam cannons and lightning fast moves. The only thing that saves you is that every so often he has to recharge for about a second and a half before he resumes darting around you like an insane lightning bug grafted to a torpedo. I know that doesn't sound bad, but one miscalculation--if you spend even a fraction of a second too long firing weapons at him before he resumes attacking you--and he will bombard you into next tuesday. No amount of armor can save you against him--he is one of the few foes who will actually attack you so fast that you will overheat from the sheer, un-relenting energy of his bombardment and subsequently melt into a piled of Armored Slag, all the while hearing him shouting out, "Destroy! Destroy!" It's a shout that will haunt your nightmares, mark my words.

The worst thing? For some reason, they keep building these damnable things, and they keep going crazy.

Most of the time, someone plays the multiplayer after the single player and if you talk about the final boss in terms of time it takes to get there than yes, Multiplayer would count as a boss although, of course, they could just go straight to the multiplayer but you can also cheat and go straight to the boss in a lot of games as well.

A boss in the end is someone to test your true skill against. How are other players different from that?

Yellow Devil from Megaman 1 is the classic example of a hard boss fight.

However, the hardest and most rage inducing fight I've ever seen is the final boss of Armored Core: Master of Arena.

It was some massive mech... I think. The only glimpse of it I got was from the short cut-scene just before the fight.

Every time it went like this:

Fight starts,
Platform I'm on explodes,
I land,
I am hit by 50 different attacks before I can even touch a button on my controller,
I die.

Yeah... that's real fair and possible people.
