Hey there, fellow escapists. I have recently been browsing the forums, and discovered a strange pattern. I realized that most people on this site pretty much hated high school, and go on and on about how it blows in general. My question is, why? I just finished my freshman year, and it was hella fun. Am I the only one on this site who enjoys high school, the time of finally being considered intelligent by adults, chilling with friends, and forming your own, independent opinions about issues?

Because college is 100 times better than high school. it's true high school wasn't bad for me but I like college a whole lot more, and compared to college high school looks like it sucks.

Haven't seen that much by way of opinion of 'high-school-days'... but admittedly, most of it has been negative. Not sure why, but sure people have their reasons.

Personally, my high-school days (being English i.e. ages 15-18, is it?) were fine. Well, school was fine, outside school was shit, but they ended well, 'cos I did pretty well for myself. If I have one bad set of memories, it was how I was effectively dragged into the damned faculty politics. Curse the headmaster and his coven of simpering shits.

Because apparently everyone on this site went to a high school out of One Tree Hill or The O.C.

I liked it, especially my last year. When you get to A-Level, shit is just so much easier in high school.

I loved high school, I just enjoy college significantly more. I feel as though a lot of the people that hate high school tend to still be in high school.

I loved high school. I was on the varsity wrestling team as well as the team captain my junior and senior years. I had a great group of friends, great teachers and generally a fun time. There was a very small suck factor to school.

I've found that it's because most people tend to go to high school in a public school. As in anyone can go there. Including the stupid people.

I'm finishing up my junior year myself, and I've started looking at colleges. College life is radically different and it looks so tantalizing from this perspective. Knowing that fewer obnoxiously idiotic people will be there (given the standard for entry), it seems like heaven in comparison.

Most of my memories of secondary school are fond ones. On the whole, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Most of the fond memories, as you might expect, are of my friends.

However, there were definitely negatives to it. Not least among these is that I went to an all-boys' school, so it was basically a breeding ground for sexism and elitism. There were many dicks at my school, sad to say. Also, by the time I left, I'd become tired of the teaching methods employed at school, which essentially amounted to independent thought police; you weren't allowed your own opinion if you wanted to do well on exams.

Also this. I may have gotten sick of it long ago, but I have no problem with people enjoying their Call of Duty. Just talk about something (EFF!)ing else once in a while.

I'm sorry, but that kind of made me laugh. Depending on how you dress (and carry yourself, to an extent), adults have gone from seeing you as an inocent, naive little kid to a punk-ass, naive teenager. Now everytime you go into stores the cashier is going to have his eyes on you. And just try making an argument with an adult; no matter how valid your point is, you're still a punk, therefore you are always wrong, guilty, and not worth arguing with.

OT: I just finish my junior year, and I have to say its not bad. Not pleasant, but not bad.

Seriously, there's something to talk about, fucking Middle School!
Middle School is a nightmare realm that we do not speak of, lest the repressed memories resurface.

Seriously, middle school-aged kids are fucked up

Oh, high school didn't truly begin to suck until somewhere mid-Sophomore year.

Maybe you'll end up lucky and it won't be awful for you :) Just avoid getting stuck in social groups, and make friends based on whether or not they're assholes.

I was the kid no one messed with because there was no need to. I friendly with everyone and showed a modicum of respect, to which they returned the favor. I didn't have a bunch of friends (preferred to do my own thing), but most kids generally either liked me or didn't mess with me. So, no, high school was bad for me at all, especially senior year. It was one of the best of my life so far. I guess the only thing to take away from this is that the people you surround yourself with can make or break your high school experience (at least, for me, anyway).

I went to a pretty small school, so if you had a problem with one person, there wasn't really anything you could do to avoid it.

My Senior year was pretty good until I got into a fight with my ex, who (suspiciously) became extremely good friends with my group of close friends.

God she is such a *****.

It was boring and redundant, and though I avoided a lot of the High School drama that was a tangled web.

Well public school DID suck. Hard. I grew up moving all over the world b/c of my dad's job, and my middle school and first year of highschool were all done in Germany at an international school. I have great memories of that, but my first year back in th US was sophomore year at a public school in Georgia- I remember it as the Year From Hell. Absolutely the worst year of my life- and I spent a year in Iraq during OIF. I spent that entire terrible year appplying to every highshcool for the arts in the vicinity, and thankfully got accepted to a couple. I had good grades, and I played soccer and volleyball but I still might have ended up a dropout statistic if I hadn't been able to escape the public education system.
