MW2 was a bit too easy, COD5 was an absolute pisstake with all the grenades and narrow levels, but I think COD4 got it right as it was challenging and extremely satisfying when you finally finish it.
I'd agree, although it could have done without certain spikes like 'Heat' and 'No Fighting in the War Room'.

I think it was the timers that made those such miserable experiences.

Fuck timers.

I always thought the metal gear games got it pretty spot on, the boss battles were hard as hell, but still possible, without becoming frustrating.

Interesting Modern Warfare 2 choice, I thought it was quite tedious to be honest, a lot of waiting to heal and not leaving a lot of room for decision making (just shoot, heal, shoot, heal).

The most fun experience was playing the original halo with my brothers in Co-op on legendary.

The one game I can think of that was challenging but fun on the highest setting was MW2. As much hate as it gets, the campaign was a blast on Veteran, unlike the other COD games.
I personally think MW2 on veteran was WAY too easy. World at war had a serious Grenade problem, and thus I never finished in on Vet. (I've got about three levels to go, though, so I might finish that at some point. Cod4 was great on veteran, just right I thought. Cod2 was good on veteran too... never played Cods one and three. MW2 though... Way too easy. (With the possible exception of the Favela levels, as you are the enemy's only target) I finished almost all of it in less than a day.

Screw Star Wars Mass Effect, Middle-earth Dragon Age is waiting!
When I finish ME2 on Insanity it'll be back to Ferelden.

Man, Bethesda would want to get TES5 out soon, my fanboy tendencies are slowly being drawn more in Bioware's direction every day...
Damn them if they make F4 first, F3 got nothing on Oblivion!
That hurt my feelings, F3 is my favorite game :(

But yeah, I'm pretty sure TES5 is next. They have all but confirmed it. And it will be wonderful.
Well I'm a fantasy sucker, and so a new Elder Scrolls is the best damn news ever. Fallout 3 was good, but the protagonist couldn't run like the wind! Nor could he jump 8 feet into the air.

Honestly... I never bother to even attempt to try the hardest difficulty in games. Nearly every one i have tried just gets me so frustrarted..

So i think fuck it, put it on easy and have fun.
Nothing at all wrong with that.

Having fun is of course, the most important part, but sometimes more of a challenge can be fun too if it's not making you angry.

I guess play whichever setting feels like it has the right amount of challenge for your abilities.

For example, I will finish most shooters on the highest difficulty, but give me an RTS or fighting game and I will be wishing there was an easier setting than 'easy'.

Thank goodness Street Fighter 4 had 'very easy'...
I always just used to put every games on easy before even attempting it.. then i realsied how much of a mistake i was making, pretty much taking most of the fun out of the game..

Now i play though on normal/ "a bit hard" (thats if the game has a difficulty in between normal and hard.. or hard if its not hard..) Game difficultys vary alot ok!

and i try to play a second play through on the hardest setting.. but i find it soo hard to play through a strict story line more than once..

What he said. After a ver long time, I decided to try a difficulty other than Normal and Easy. I was stupid and attempted nightmare difficulty in Dragon Age.

Oh boy did I regret that.

Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare was very difficult, as was Gears of War 2 on insane. However according to my friend (I don't have the game) Call of Duty:World at War on veteran turns into Grenade of Grenade:Grenade at Grenade (Grenade edition)

I actually thought GoW's AI was pretty good (until RAAM)...
But normally highest difficulty means that you run out, shoot someone, and run behind a rock to wait and heal for an hour the entire game. There is no shoot everyone at once. The whole thing is mainly for achievements.

Stranglehold on Hard Boiled. Once you get past the cheap standoff sections, it really does require you to play the game like some sort of bullet-munchin', hard-talkin' badass- and the sense of satisfaction from even the simplest fight is immense.

Totally worth it, even though it took two months. Right?

Right?

The highest difficulty in Viewtiful Joe was perfect. There were two difficulties past normal that you had to unlock but the way the game is played it made sense because there was no way you'd beat the hardest difficulty without buying most of character upgrades beforehand. The hardest difficulty was a true test of what you learned in your other playthroughs. In the hardest mode Joe takes 4x damage, enemies are stronger, and the biggest difference was that enemies no longer leave dodge markers meaning you'd have to learn each enemy's tell. I've never felt so satisfied as when I beat Viewtiful Joe on the hardest mode.

HAWX is quite broken, less ammo and more damage (you can only survive being hit once with a missile). The AI doesn't get any smarter or anything, just more damage and less ammo. ARGH

No. It's not. I can't get by the jerk at the end of the 4th stage. It's ridiculous. Still trying once in a while though.

The hardest, by far, has to be Ninja Gaiden: Black on master ninja difficulty setting. Either that or the second master ninja tournament of the regular Ninja Gaiden. Only a handful of people beat the former and no one beat the latter.

European Extreme in Metal Gear Solid 2. Or Driver 2 on any setting. I wouldn't know about GoW/GoW 2 because I played them with a friend on insane.

Viewtiful Joe and F-Zero GX. Really, really hard but not unfairly so, and I felt so triumphal when I managed them :)
