So far, we've got Legolas and his red head friend, CGI elves going all Kingdom of the Crystal Skull monkeys, and one awesome looking Dragon.

Also, the dude playing Bard, I recognize him but I don't know his name. Wasn't he in that crappy Three Musketeers movie with the flying ship?

Anyways, looks sweet, but I will wait and see.

I personally don't mind Legolas being in the movie, as long as they don't put too much focus on him to pander to the teenage girls. Smaug looks awesome and I can't wait to hear him talk.

I've only seen Luke Evans (Bard) in two movies: Immortals and Clash of the Titans. I do think he was in Three Musketeers, but I haven't seen it.

Now, how long before the "They're raping the book" comments pop up XD

I dunno.

There's just something about the big action sequences that look too busy, too showy for the sake of it. Sure, The Lord of the Rings had tons of CGI but it was, in the main, used relatively subtly. The Hobbit put me more in mind of the really overblown sequences in King Kong, like the stampede and the Kongs fight with the three dinos.

Still going to see it of course.

the trailer looks good. i knew i was going to see this after the last one, mainly because i had fun watching it in the theatre. im not expecting it to be anything special; just entertaining.

the only question i have is: just how padded is the last movie going to be? it seems like they'll have covered most of the plot by the time the credits roll.

Eeeesh that...does not look good.

The first Hobbit movie ended up being a pretty huge disappointment for me. This looks like more of the same.

Why do they feel the need to completely destroy such a cute and innocent little book by changing scenes that really do not need to be changed.

example 1- The Hobbit movie part 1, the fight with the trolls...just why. No we won't get bored if the first half of the movie has no action.

ex. 2- Thorin gets his head smashed in by a mace...o wait, no he's fine no damage. That orc should only appear at the battle of the five armies.

There are others but I won't get into that.

Edit: also wtf beorn isn't all aggressive like that.

Looks sweet. I really liked the first movie, and Lord of the Rings, so I'm sure I'll like this. I guess Smaug is the main enemy for this bit, and then for part three it'll be what happened after Smaug?

I've not read the book either (it's predominantly a children's book, and I just never got around to it when I was younger), so there's no "book purist" in me straining against changes. I'd have no idea what was loyal and what wasn't.

It just looks like the same soulless, emotionally disconnected, flat, tensionless CGI holocaust that typified the Star Wars prequels. I never thought I'd say this, but can we go back to puppets and models please? Until they sort out how to make the CGI not look so fucking awful?

I liked the first Hobbit movie but I am really fucking hating all this CGI!! The original trilogy had CGI, but it not only looked good but because so much was practical effects it still holds up to this day... The Hobbit movies will look outdated.

The CGI looks kind of off. Legolas's face looks wayyyyy to airbrushed. I know Orlando Bloom is older but that whole trailer looked weird. I still have high hopes but the seed of doubt has been planted.

I've warmed to the use of CGI in the hobbit films now. The more stylised fantastical nature of the things you can do with it works for the comparatively light tone of the Hobbit, whereas the the use of models and cosmetics and props and costumes was great for the LOTR films.
Anywaym, loved the first one, looking forward to this one. Will be interesting to see how they do the Battle of Five Armies in the last film, seeing as the book barely talks about it.

I agree. I'll see it, of course, like everyone else, but I didn't take that much enjoyment from the first one. It was such a spectacle but it never connected with me.

I'm super hyped for this. Not really surprising, since I loved the trilogy and the first Hobbit to pieces.

I don't know, I loved the LOTR trilogy, but for some reason The Hobbit pt 1 drove me nuts with all the childish escape / combat scenes. I mean really, it felt like a kids movie. And this trailer is just enforcing that, our "serious" moments include a bunch of dwarves falling in barrels down a river...? I am no where near as excited as I was for pt 1 because of how crappy it was to me, but I will still see it. If there's more of this stupid kids crap in it then I'm just going to ignore the third and wait for DVD.

Give me a true LOTR movie or quit wasting my time!
(Yes, I know The Hobbit is "lighter" than LOTR. I don't care.)

Peter Jackson managed to turn the childish element up to 11...and it was at best a 6 in the book.

Well, to be fair, the Hobbit was written as a children's book :p I was actually quite relieved they kept in a lot of that childishness and lightheartedness. Tonally the Hobbit is very different from LotR, so it only makes sense that the tone be different in the movies as well.

Anyway, I'm very excited. Though I think it's interesting that Bilbo's going to meet Smaug in this one, and after introducing Smaug the only logical climax I can see the film getting is him getting killed. So basically that just leaves the Battle of the Five Armies for the third movie, and the journey home. And...that's it. I'll be interesting to see how they flesh it all out.

I liked the first and I think this one is looking promising too.

So in the book itself there's a fairly large and important section after the Dragon which I imagine they'll focus on more, but also remember that they're going to explain how the White Council drove Sauron out of Mirkwood, so that will either take up a lot of this film or the next one

That's fair. I won't deny the CGI in this trailer did look odd, but all things considered, I didn't mind it too much. To me, humans and creatures, specially when they're moving fast like those elves, they tend to look rather odd (like they're made of rubber? Don't know). Legolas climbing that elephant thing in the LOTR trilogy looked really weird even back then. Neo fighting countless agents, etc.

Then again, my opinion hardly matters. I don't have the highest standards when it comes to movies. I'll watch fancy foreign movies just like I watched (and enjoyed in a "it's garbage but it's good" way) Mega Shark versus Crocosaurus, for example. Actually, I think I enjoyed it more than the first Hobbit movie.

(Also, watching the trailer again, I can't help but see that asshole Joffrey Baratheon when I see Legolas)
