Battle Royale is a metaphor for the massive weapon imbalances in TF2, such as how almost every gun except for two have a bottomless magazine and that one bit where the admin takes favor of a single player by entering the game and giving them the 300% crit umbrella.

If you have not seen BR it was a novel in 1999 and a movie in 2000. It's based in present day Japan were kids in school every month to year have to fight to the death in atleast three days. Such as in The Hunger Games there is romance between characters and theres action. These two stories are very similar in many ways. To watch the first BR go on youtube.com/movies its free. The second one you just have to find yourself.
Yes we all know Battle Royal came out first it was a good manga series yada yada yada. If we are going to say anything with a similar plot device is a rip off then Harry Potter is a rip off of lord of the rings and Lord of the rings is a rip off of well any fantasy book before it. Also Batman is a rip off of Superman so don't bother reading anything about batman. Don't bother watching NCIS because that is a rip off of CSI and don't watch CSI because it is a rip off of mystery shows before it.

Fact is people borrow ideas and concepts and reshape them as there own all the time. Just because something is similar or has a similar running theme does not make them a rip off or not worth while it just makes them similar.

To compare both hunger games and battle royal makes sense they hold a the main plot device in common that is fair but to call them the same or either a rip off is just stupid.

Everyone already knows about this since the film came out months ago and MovieBob made a note of it in an Escape to the Movies video. You're late. Like, very late.
Well my bad I didn't see it.

This is the true meaning. There's even a demopan.

I suppose that makes Gilgamesh the greatest story of all time,
Well, to be fair Gilgamesh is pretty epic. [http://instantrimshot.com/]
What a terrible pun. Zu [http://instantrimshot.com/] should be ashamed of yourself.
(Wikipedia says that's a reference, so I'll go for it)

Everything is very similar to something that came earlier, there isn't much point in shouting from the roof tops about it.

Oh, shit, and I just realized that Hunger Games is secretly about the pre-nerf Huntsman.

Like seriously wtf is that lucksman shit.

So I guess Hunger Games is a rip-off of Battle Royale in that they're both about TF2 weapon balance.

I've only read the Battle Royale novel and learned second hand about the Hunger Games. My gist is:

Hunger Games creates a world and describes it.
Battle Royale gives you a world, but you only learn bits and pieces of it.

Battle Royale is an atrociously poorly written Japanese film without any setting or any background story that attempts to make violence so overblown it becomes funny, but fails miserably.

I agree with your battle royale assessment
Guys you do know Battle Royale was also a book before right? Come on. Also the lack of setting is not necessarily a bad thing, it's something that the novel does very well.

Hey wait, I think they made a meme about you:

Seriously, you are about a year or two late, and even if you said it then you would still come off as extremely pretentious and annoying. Battle Royale and Hunger games may not be completely different animals, but they are definitely not completely the same. If anyone says that Hunger Games is a complete ripoff then it's obvious to me that they didn't watch the actual movies/read the actual books rather than they skimmed the Wikipedia page.

Yes, Hunger Games is a ripoff of Battle Royale.

If you only take the first book into account and ignore the rest of the story in the other two books.

And only compare the premises of the movies and not the message, characters, settings, societal themes, handling of violence, plot elements, and overall story arc.

Actually, only if you compare the single sentence summary of the premise of both movies.

... Twelve words maximum.

So yes, Hunger Games is a ripoff of Battle Royale.

"Rip off" That's another term I'm sick and tired of hearing, to the point that I want to punch the next person who utters it. Just because they follow similar themes does NOT mean one is a rip off of the other, SHUT UP!!

If anything, The Hunger Games wasn't ENOUGH of a rip-off of all the other "Survival-plus-Murder-for-Entertainment" Stories. It would've been so much better if it wholly stole from other materials.

My ideal Hunger Games would be about Katniss and half-insane Japanese Schoolchildren running around in circles at a set minimum speed or they get shot while Takeshi Kitano sends out Dynamo to kill them with his inexplicable lightning powers (ideally while riding around in a little cart that has a squirt gun mounted to it).

Yes I'm aware that battle royale was a book before it was a film. That doesn't really excuse the fact that its still a poor film in my eyes.

Did you read The hunger games? Or are you basing this on the movie? If it's the latter i suggest you read the book before casting the first stone .
