Why is it that people criticize America's Army saying that it awful just because it's made by the U.S. Army? While Call of Duty 4 is widely accepted despite the fact it wasn't commissioned by the United States Government. The premise of the game is the exact same and just how valiant the Americans are against everyone else in this world.

p.s. i'm not discussing the multiplayer, just the campaign and the premise of the game

Everyone from out of the states, me included, tend to just hate the US. Im not sure why, but when the US army backs a game, it just makes me think they are trying to recruit through a vast new medium for some up and coming soldiers.

note: they will probably need more for when they invade Iran

people hate the U.S. and everything to do with it. For many reasons than i think could be explained on here. then wed all debat it nonstop. so i wont even go into it...that much. and let it be known i am an american and i dont agree with the U.S. sticking their noses in everyones business. This is just my general thought on the whole matter after listening to both sides and not really careing for a very long time.

People dont like others who self proclaim themselfs to be the best or the one who just feels the need to moderate everything. Who said U.S. was the best?..besides the U.S. anyway. What started out as good intentions, the U.S. ading in wars and with other small things turned into the U.S. feeling like they need to take care of everyone else in the wrold..if they even want it or not. You need to take a look at the U.S. point of view as well though. Everyone asked for help with this or that and it became like a child with candy among a mob of other children. The candy weilding child never stood a chance. Then you get the well if we dont put our foot in and stop whats happening to them now then it will come to us. Better to stop it now while we have resources and they are still in once piece. its like the world subconcously put the U.S. in charge of everyone else. If they meant to or not. it was the signal they all gave off to the U.S. your bigger and have resours, step up and do this.

but alright honestly if the U.S. never bothered to care about any other country. wouldnt help in wars or offering money or resources, what would you be saying then? oh thouse jerks think they are better than the rest of us. all for personal gain that country. or they are cowards..like canada. everyone makes fun of them because of this. the self proclaimed lovers of all.

same old tune, not that much of a different situation. think of what the world would be like if the U.S. never helped with anything over the course of it existing. and dont just say the world would be better(cheater :p ) you have to really think about all the causes and new outcomes.

Think you'd feel the same way?

People object to America's Army because it is a recruiting tool. It isn't a game made for amusement. It is meant to convince gamers being the military would be cool. Currently the notion among non-gamers is that games are for kids, and trying to convince little Billy killing people for the army would be fun is offensive to a fair number of parents I suspect.

I personally find an amusing hypocrisy in the fact many politicians claim video games are bad because they make people violent, but the army is relying on the same notion in hopes of getting a few recruits.

Ha! I wish! The media here is always saying how valiant we are; constantly talking about war heroes and wearing poppies the entire month of November. If we were really the 'lovers of all' I'd imagine we'd be more of a leading force in the UN and have a socialist government here at home that'd deal with the growing economic imbalance.

In response to the original question, I think nobody likes feeling that they are being manipulated. It's a game intended for recruitment, and I think having that sense of propaganda in the back of your mind detracts from the entertainment.

Let me just set something straight, as a Canadian, is that we are not the "self proclaimed lovers of all". If you met a Canadian that said that they are a blabbering fool. Our policies as a nation, and our copious apathy are what have brandished us with this reputation. I don't think it's as much that we actively look for people to love, but that we don't really mind one way or the other. Want to come hang out with us? Feel free.

Isn't Canada stuck in Afghanistan right now trying to sort stuff out because the majority of the US force peeled out to Iraq?

Man, what a bunch of vaginas.

BUT... We are not here to discuss national pride, but I decided that warranted a response.

Anyways, I think that all FPSs with the grizzled musclebound (Insert country here)ian fighting in a war are boring and unenlightened. On top of that, I think adding the propeganda to it really doesn't matter. So many people before me have mentioned CoD etc which are the same thing.

Very true that America's Army is used as a recruitment tool but i find that other military games are even bigger recruitment tools. i mean when you play CoD, GRAW, Rainbow 6, Counterstrike, and etc the military is glorified even more and especially in the CoD series. Take a close look at the title of "Call of Duty" as in it is our duty (as Americans) to go out and fight.

(sounds like i'm a video game hating nazi, i swear it. I AM NOT!!! i love video games)

The only thingh I truely hate about America is that by some way they have managed to take over our (Australia's) media. I sit watching the news and the bulk of it is about thw next American election. Who the bloddy hell cares (aside from Americans). It's as important to me as the Spanish or the Canadians (actually Canada would be more import since we're both part of the Commonwealth) national election.

It's things like this that tick people off. And when you lable a game 'America's Army' we imediantly feel slightly turned off by this. If it were just labled 'Army' it may of had a better reception. CoD on the other hand also gives different sides to the story. CoD4 for example let me play as the Poms. It doesn't seem to glorify the Americans as much as America's Army would.

I havent played either of the games, but even if they seem to have the same message (war is teh cewl) they are produced for two diffirent reasons. COD4 is made my Infinity Ward to pay for the salaries of the people att the company and to make money for the stockholders, the same goal of all companies, one might also argue that they make it for artistic value. Americas Army is on the other hand made for recruiting people to the army.

The American armed forces have alot of marketing; roaming recruiters (horribly corny) tv-adds, sponsoring MLG (Major Leage Gaming, the largest Halo leage in the world)and producing a large amount of games, tv-show and movies.

This is basicly the same thing as the old "Uncle Sam" posters. Even if i dont like armies whatsoever i dont think the act of marketing by them in itself is especialy immoral.

CoD4 used around 8 people from the USAF for weapon, tank and helicopter realism. They tried to make that game as realistic as they could. But they try really hard to say "war is horrible". A whole level in that game is dedicated to crawling around in a radioactive wasteland that once was a childrens play area and then have you die painfully as you hear the soft sound of childrens laughter.

AA on the other hand shows the horrible side of war as much BF2 and similar games. I suppose thats why people might dislike AA. Also the USAF is considered to be "evil" by many people since the failure in Iraq and people might think that AA is brain washing teenangers (people think only teenangers play games) to join the army.

And since AA was created the army has had a large increase in recruitments.

"Help in wars"? For two generations, the only wars America has "helped" in have been wars it either started or escalated! It's the richest nation in the world, yet it has one of the lowest levels of aid per capita [http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/eco_com_to_for_aid-economy-commitment-to-foreign-aid] of any developed nation - especially compared to the hundreds of trillions of dollars it spends on its capacity to kill people [http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/eco_eco_aid_don_percap-economic-aid-donor-per-capita].

No, Americans make fun of Canadians, and a minority of Americans at that. Most people like Canadians. I admit I can't always tell the US and Canadian accents apart, so when I meet a person with that accent and they turn out to be Canadian I feel relieved I don't have to deal with a pain-in-the-arse American. (I'm exaggerating the bigotry, but it's true, people expect Canadians to be nicer. Partly because, oh, they're not so inclined to call their foreign allies pussies for not participating in enough wars.)

Ok first off us in the UK have nothing but respect for Canadians, they are generally regarded to be a honest, nice and grounded race whereas the general opinion of Americans is that they are loud, brash, stupid and bigoted, of course this is just a stereotype and I have personally met many Americans who could not be further from this.

You and people like you however unfortunately re-enforce these stereotypes, the poster above me proved how little you actually donate in the form of aid so you can get off that pedestal, stop acting like a twat and for the love of good stop electing republican fools into the Whitehouse who believe the exact word of the bible including that crazy fire and brimstone ending and are doing their damndest to bring it about.
