So, I'm going through ME2 on insane, and I keep wondering about the Illusive Man. I've already beaten the game twice, and I still can't figure out what the deal is with his eyes.

But I think I got it.

I think he's a reaper!... or a Prothean!?

Mmm, not much support for this hunch in game, and I haven't read those comics they have about him, but I'm wondering what you guys think of this idea.

basically. He seems to have his own objectives. First among those is humanity's ascension to the top of the galactic social order.

I think those are supposed to be some sort of cybernetic implants.

And who's the last person (other than Shep) with cybernetic implants? Saren.

I'm just sayin....

Nah, way too obvious. It could be that he's under Reaper indoctrination, but not even be aware of it himself. So he's thinking he's doing everything for humanity and whatever, but really he's helping further the Reaper agenda.

Or every Biotic in the game. Implants and nanomachines to utilize the mass distortion effect. At least I THINK that's how they explained it, I may be confused.

They're prosthetics of some sort, probably. Not sure what they do, though. They could have a range of uses. Maybe they project holographic overlays on top of his vision so he can talk to one person while looking at something else. Maybe they're scanners that quickly bring up relevant data on whatever he's looking at. Maybe they're both.

Or maybe he's just vain and thinks they look cool. He is, after all, a collection of the best and worst traits of humanity.

Pretty much sums up anything you want to know about the Illusive Man.

Yeah, his eyes have always confused the fuck out of me. He's a bit of a manipulative dick, but those eyes make me wonder just what the hell is up with him. The problem is, the book which are written by the games writer, there is nothing out of the ordinary with him. He is just a rich guy with his own interests (And not really humanity as a whole) at heart.

Doubtful. If he was working for the reapers in any way, then why did he bring their greatest threat back to life?

I hate reading wiki entries. Does it say anything about his eyes?

Actually, we do know the Illusive Man's backstory, thanks to the side materials. His name is Jack Harper, a former mercenary who served at Shanxi (the only human world to be occupied by an alien species, specifically the Turians). There's quite a bit known about him, it's just not brought to light in the games.

But I will certainly not deny the possibility that he has been enthralled by the Reapers. We know that quite a number of Cerberus units have been indoctrinated as of ME3, and he was willing to deal with supposedly "dead" Reaper technology that proved to still be very dangerous?

As ridiculous as it seems, he may be in some stage of indoctrination when you consider that those eyes...

Are husk eyes.

It took me more than 4 playthroughs to notice that. >_>

I forgot about reading that, that Shepard refers to Cerberus units as being indoctrinated in the ME3 demo.
Illusive man is totally a Reaper (Prolly not, but something to that effect)

I do reckon Ol' Illusive is indoctrinated or otherwise altered by reaper tech, with those eyes.
Also, it doesn't help that his own voice actor said he wouldn't trust him...

also a charming but manipulative bastard who is not to be trusted,

which is why I dont understand some people handing the collector base over to him, if it was in council hands..mabye but cerberus are not to be trusted regardless of their motivations
