So with many companies going on a blackout I just want to know what all websites are participating in this black out and also what do you plan to do for the blackout?
I think I'll go on xbox live and play games with friends for the day

All I know is Wiki is going off-line for a bit and people like Twitter think it's dumb?

Who else is joining in? And I also thought SOPA got binned? *very behind*

Xbox Live won't be doing it will it? Probably not since so many people use it. If not then I shall be playing the Darkness 2 demo during the blackout.

I'll be just playing singleplayer Minecraft tomorrow. The easiest kind of protest is the one where you do nothing at all! :D

So I guess escapist isn't blacking out tomorrow?

Bit of shame actually I think. In my opinion it seems only sites which take part of this are taking the threat of sopa seriously.

But well as it usually is profits > giving a damn.

Why would the Escapist bother going down? Almost all its visitors know SOPA and PIPA are bad and it's not a big enough site to attract mainstream media attention. Wikipedia is probably the site which will cause the biggest shockwaves, unless Google joins in. It's all about causing disruption and mking more people aware of the issue.

Kind of irrelevant, seeing how SOPA hasn't passed (For now anyway).

Still, a good way to show how any censorship on the net will end up. I have the list here for people to look at:
http://sopastrike.com/on-strike/

The few, the brave, the hateful of Youtube takedowns

It's been shelved temporarily, but not permanently scrapped. PIPA is still kicking about the place. Issues still need to be dealt with.

Strictly speaking it's been 'shelved'.

It's not cancelled, but it is extremely unlikely to be voted on or advanced further until it's been at least partially (more likely completely) re-written. So SOPA (or a SOPA-like legislation) is still coming, but hopefully it will not result in private companies (other than Google) being able to unilaterally control the flow of information on the internet.

It's about making a point.

If whole internet would go dark tomorrow, that point would have been made. And everyone would hear about it.

But yeah it seems they don't care enough about this to actually bother doing anything.

Wikipedia, some people who wear V masks and a LOT of bloggers are going offline between 8am and 8pm to protest the Breaches of First Amendment.

The Twitter Boss thinks it's a bit silly, but the Twitterati themselves seem to be supporting it (hashtag #j18)

SOPA is shelved, but PIPA is still being discussed (which is basically SOPA with a lick of paint) - SOPA hasn't been tabled, it's just lurking - waiting to be re-written.

I'm offline for the day and I advise as many people as possible to do so - If nothing else, then just to prove you can spend a day without net access. There's a lovely world out there.

True, but its buggeration is less in "Steam-rolling any free content in position for the controlling evils" to "Telling Pirate Bay to stop it now".

So, not as sharp or painful spear in ones butt, but a spear none the less!

Its still painfully vague, so people are still annoyed. What the internet needs is a kevlar suit. That way these spears won't hurt :p

This for me as well. I've been playing a lot of MP Minecraft lately, but I guess sacrificing a day of that for the greater good couldn't hurt.

Yeah, internet legislation to protect the public!

Oh, did you also hear? They found Atlantis, caught the Loch Ness Monster and found the Ark of the Covenant on that day as well!!!!

What the hell? Facebook is on that list, THE fucking Facebook.com, but Escapist can't be arsed?'

Edit: Nvrmnd, was just a lot of Facebook-related sites. Still, why no Escapist?
