Okay, so I was browsing imgur and came across this: http://imgur.com/gallery/elG0kpH

Fantastic, here we are again. I know that it's only in the US and the title is a bit sensationalist but we cannot let this crap fly. I've tried posting it on Facebook but it won't let me, I don't know if Facebook is in on it or something, I hope not. They seem to be deleting all mention of it on news sites. We need to spread this like wildfire, everywhere we can.

this is just incredibly stupid.

first off, you have the many congressmen who decided "hey, just because the people already launched a big campaign against this kind of thing, doesn't mean that we, as their representatives, shouldn't put it through". (of course that's not counting all ones who have some sort of tie to the big cable company's)

then, you have this crap with facebook not letting this through, despite the fact that facebook is going to fucked over by this as well (then again, maybe they have some sort of deal with the big cable company's)

oh, and lets not forget that because so many sites are run from US servers, even people like me who aren't in the US will be getting screwed over by this.

and the biggest piece of stupidity, why the hell are they allowed to include crap like this as part of the budget! seriously, there should really be some rule that prevents this crap so that there can be a proper debate on it for the people to see. but I guess that would just prevent congressmen from sneaking in stuff they know the public would tear them to shreds over.

Actually, Facebook would benefit from this. They'd end up paying big time to the cable companies, but in exchange they'd exist in a system where it's unlikely to impossible for a competitor to compete with them.

same with any bill like this. keep pushing it and pushing it, hiding it and they will pass it eventually because people get sick of protesting

yeah good point. I guess from a business standpoint it is beneficial to pay out the nose to make sure you have next to no real competition.

I think the same thing honestly. Every time one dies another just takes its place and they will just keep pushing them out till it goes through.

Well, you know what they say: the price of freedom is constant vigilance. Last I heard, politicians and members of school boards in the US try to sneak or shoehorn creationism into schools nearly every day, or lie about gun violence or climate change. Some have already succeeded due to public ignorance or apathy. It's a shame that these people waste so much of their motivation and energy, but I don't think a little constant vigilance is a high price to pay to avoid living in a nation where it's dishonest charlatans like that who dictate how you have to live.

Look at it this way: if bills like that are being pushed every day, and stopped every day, then it's a pretty clear indication that there are plenty of people in the US who feel the same way that you do about it. I know there are plenty on this website alone. So you don't really have to do much at all in the grand scheme of things.

Well, the current budget bill, as it's being debated in congress, is nothing but veto-bait, anyway. Basically just senate conservatives dick-waving and trying their damndest to be spiteful. Other cherries in their wording include attempts to de-fund Obamacare, planned parenthood, and other hilariously stupid right-wing pipe dreams that have no chance at success*. The bill will pass the legislative branch by the republican majority, promptly be vetoed, and then die. Time will be wasted, both parties will snipe at each other, and as always, the only real losers will be the public.

Still, I'm glad there are people who are paying close attention to the proceeding. Evil men have been sneaking self-serving rules into power by hiding them inside something boring for ages, and it's nice to see that the internet, at the very least, makes this tactic a little less effective.

*- I feel I should clarify, just so no one accuses me of being dismissive of other's viewpoints, that when I say "stupid pipe dream", I mean hoping that such legislation will come to pass. This wording is not meant to be an indictment of the political beliefs therein, which I don't agree with, true, but don't see the merit in being especially crass about.
