I have been cursed you see I...( dramatic pause) was born in augest. Woah is me! Hump month! Literally nothing happens in augest. End of summer, yet still not close enough to holiday season or at least 4q. No movies come out. All my favorite bands are off tour so no concerts. And yes, I am awhere mafia 2 is in augest, but it comes out a day after my birthday. (bonus points for what my b day is. Simple math people) so that leves me with slot of extra cash. At first, I didn't give the ipad a second glance. Which is why it's shocking that the thing to interest me is something I care little about. Tv. Modern family showed it's extremely diverse in features. People I look up too love it(Stephen colbear, Philly D). So now I'm intrigued. It's able to hold Alot of songs, multiple movies, n
Books, games and more. But I'm not sure about it entirely. Is it true their is a version with 3g that can have Internet access absolutely anywhere (obviously within reason)? So are their any people who have one? Who here really likes them? Money is not a huge problem. I understand a good version is around 300. So can anyone give me a reason to buy?

If I had that much money burning in a hole in my pocket I would probably buy one.

But personally I would expect to buy it as an expensive novelty and even then only because I've wanted to see a 'Sci-Fi-Esque DataPad' type device for a lllooonnnggg time.

Otherwise, it's not something I would consider that special or worth getting.

Frisbees are always worth it.
OT: I guess if that's your kind of thing. I personally don't have an iPod or iPhone and I do alright.

Don't tablet PC's already exist?

Basically, I'd say no and that it's essentially a big iPhone, but I need to add that I'm currently being converted to Linux by a friend, and he is biasing me.

I would take that money and invest in a spell checker, or a grammar camp, or Hooked on Phonics.
I could hardly get through your paragraph.

OT: It depends on what you are using it for. I recommend watching this video, it sums up why the iPad was a bad idea pretty well.
(I know its long but it is really interesting so watch it anyway)

Do you have a decent gaming rig? You could get parts, money for parts, or a whole new computer depending on how much your parents (assuming you're a teenager) generally spend on your birthday. If not that, you could get a lot of the games you've wanted to play but weren't top priority so you never bought. Just a couple of suggestions.

The iPad is just a tablet. Tablets are nothing new. Apple are once again taking an old idea and doing fuck all to it to sell it to the moronic fan base.

I'm not an apple hater by any means ? I'm typing this on a macbook pro and I have plans to buy an iPhone ? but I just don't get the iPad. It's just a big iPhone that you can't phone people with. I don't see what it's for, and I don't see who would use it. If you want to read ebooks, get a kindle; it's hundreds of dollars cheaper and it's not backlit. If you want a portable computer, get a netbook; it's also hundreds of dollars cheaper and it's much, much more versatile.

Incidentally, I would recommend saving the money. Or at the very least taking some english language lessons, jesus christ.

I just find it hilarious that all apple have been doing is going 'I bet we can make things smaller, look a smaller ipod...here comes the nano' and they've hit the limit it seems, because now they're going 'look an iphone, but its big so it's better!

But then I have a separate phone, mp3, and camera still, and my phone is mono screen and texts and calls people and not much else.

Personally, I don't think Apple products are really ever worth it.
There are always alternatives that work the same or better than all of Apple's products. I will say that they do look damn pretty though. If that's your thing, then I guess thats a reason to buy them.

I'm sure it will appeal to someone who wants a bigger iTouch with a Kindle taped onto it. doesn't appeal to me, though.

I just think it's funny that Apple is now a bigger control-freak than Microsoft, and more of a threat to open-source than Microsoft was- with their approved-only App Store and the other restrictions they put in place. Not to mention wanting to build a Mac is apparently sacrilege.

It is an i product, so if you buy into that kind of thing and think its the end-all be-all electronic (like how Steave Jobs thinks every i product is) then go for it. Otherwise, I like the frisbee idea.

I think that the iPad was a mistake, there really isn't a reason to buy it unless you are REALLY into eBooks, other than that it's really just an over sized iPod Touch. If they would've added an actual OS to the thing, instead of just an updated version of the Touch OS, maybe it would be worth it.

The second they come out with a third-party app that reskins the iPad to look like a PADD from Star Trek, I'll be first in line to buy one.

I tend to not even bother with portable stuff asides from my phone (Which isn't an iPhone), let alone this thing, so no I don't think I'd bother with it even if I did have that much money burning a hole in my pocket.. Would be nice though. The money, that is.

But anyway - I think the term 'oversized iPhone' sums it up best.

I'd wait until it can actually run OS (i.e. when it becomes an actual computer), but if you travel a lot and have a few movies, and a bunch of music you can put on it, it might be worth it. But again, I'd wait until it becomes a real computer.
