And it's possible to both enjoy something and understand its flaws, which is probably where the majority of the intelligent topics on the net come from.

i don't discus games i enjoy them i talk about crappy/good games with friends i don't sit with them and say " oh ico was so the most artistic game ever made it shows us the delicate bonds of love and trust" or go online and say "i feel the majority of gamers today are idiotic boobs with no intellect because they drastically missed the point with MGS 4 its points on political and moral views"

i cant understand whats the big deal do we really need to look into every little thing i mean yeh you play a game the controls suck you go online and tell other people its sucks, this can be said with graphics and voice overs ect, now as for story yes i understand people like to really immerse them selfs in a good story and get a general link with some characters but in the end its a game some are more in depth then others i mean i want to play dead space because its got a bad ass atmosphere but i enjoy super robot wars because its just silly fun

you look to much into things and you just turn into a pretentious

Wow. You know, nothing really shows true colors more than a forum discussion about isms.

You know, I think some guys get a real bad rap for just trying to be nice. Yeah, I'll hold a door open for a woman. Or a man. Or a dog. Or a lobster. I've already opened the door once, why should I force whoever is behind me into doing the same? It just so happens sometimes that the person behind me is a woman.

And I think some guys are just plain masochistic jerks. (I would like to point out that it is these forum members who I am saying "you" to in the following paragraphs.) It's hard to believe some of us evolved beyond apes... -_- They're the ones that buy DOA:XBV, and I find it sickening. Some of us actually have friends who aren't the same gender as us. Do I treat them differently? No. Apparently some of you do. Stop giving people like me a bad name. It's nothing beyond annoying to repeatedly see submissive female sidekicks in games who are simply there to flaunt their digital bits and be eyecandy. It would be nice to see some of these 3d women with 3d personalities. Jesus, it would be far more interesting that way.

I swear, you guys are dealing with nothing. I've talked with some of my "other" friends as you idiots would put it, and the hostility they often have to deal with is saddening. So stop denying it already! YES. GAMES ARE SEXIST.

And X3heartless, stop giving people your age a bad name. It annoys me.

I don't understand this "yeah, videogames are sexist because gamers like it that way" argument. First of all, obviously lots of gamers don't, as witnessed by this thread. Second of all, it may be that the current set of gamers like it or ignore it, but the the game studios are limiting their potential new customer base by continuing to produce games that are commonly perceived as sexist, juvenile, and "all the same." Supposedly, change and innovation are supposed to be good things in the tech and gaming industry, so I'm not sure why so many people are sticking up for lazy, repetitive design and bad business decisions. People piss and moan about how "everything is a Halo or WoW knockoff." OK, then, by your own logic, quit whining and get back to your grinding, because that's what gamers like.

And come on, seriously, if people accepted the "well, that's just the way it is, so deal with it" argument, we'd still be living under monarchies where only landowners could participate in what little democratic process there was. Inertia is not a virtue. Game studios and societies evolve or whither.

I have female friends so how about you go fuck yourself you prick.Video games are sexist for a reason and that's because the majority like to see some cleavage get the fuck over it.If you want to be a ***** about it go buy a Wii.
...you know, that final line really just makes you look pathetic. If you hadn't dragged the console wars into this, I may have actually considered what you were saying for a moment. But now it's obvious that you're a self-centered, egotistical, immature jerk. Or maybe that's just how you come off.

Oh yeah, also, you're being sexist. You said "the majority like to see some cleavage". You're probably thinking of the majority of gamers, but it's that type of thinking that is the problem here. And you're saying that it's okay. Which means that you say sexism is okay. Meaning you're sexist.

See? I can make well-thought arguments, without even having to resort to using phrases like "go buy a Wii" which is somehow supposed to be an insult.

I agree with you entirely here. I do not understand it either, aside from the fact that it is the thoughts of a juvenile male mind. I for one do not particularly enjoy it "that way." It's pathetic, selfish, and immature. As the Miller brothers said, "We don't mean 'mature' by blood and gore, or sex. We mean 'mature' in terms of storyline, and emotions." (Paraphrase.) We need far more of the latter.

Wow.What i ment was the Wii is more family oriented console,so the game probably wont show loads of t&a,but your so stuck up your own ass you think everyone else is so inferior that i was making a comment on how its a piece of shit...which all consoles are that's why i love my pc,also video games are sexist but who cares guess what else is sexist the media/toy companys (look at a barbie)and web sites(look at the front page) so dont piss and moan about video games like they are stoping the world, just say fuck it play them and be happy because thats what they're made for FUN.A concept people on this forum have seem to forgot.

Glutting the market with shallow, derivative crap designed based on some executives' shallow stereotypes of what adolescent boys and frat guys want to see = less FUN.

Arguing passes time =P and i like state my opinions, but i usually say that to point how we do not change anything by talking. The only thing that will change the mind of the people who make games, and eather a strike is necessary,or someone sues them dead(which in America isn't a problem).lol

Alright, look, I'm sorry if I came off a little strong, but that's because there are some people who come off as real dicks. X3heartless, you're one of them. I'm not saying you ARE one, but you sure do act like it. I would like it if you would stop saying "because it's american, it's good, lol." For one, I'm Canadian, and I find it repulsive that you are so ethnocentric towards people who don't live in your country.

Really, the only thing you've showed me is how short-sighted you are. I don't think I'm better than EVERYONE else. You'll notice that I pointed out in my first post that I was only talking to SOME of the forum members, one of which was you. So yeah, I think I'm better. But I think I'm better than any sexist, racist, ethnocentrist, or just plain jackass. You seem to be falling into at least one of those. If you don't, prove it to me. You won't have my respect until you do, and I sure as hell don't need yours.

Not when he's hairy like animal. Chicks are into Link and the FF guys when it comes to video game pr0n.
I beg to differ, with personal experience.
Are you really saying that Capcom was looking to capture the market on these women your talking about with Zangeif or that there were designers at Capcom who are into big hairy men?
Nice misdirection but no. I'm saying that there are a number of women who find hirsute men attractive, and by promoting that image, they maybe are selling to those with that fetish.
Does your personal experience include greater success with women when wearing fur pants? Do these woman occasionally whisper into your hairy muscular chest that they would like to see you in fur pants?
Metaphor's don't stretch quite that far, but I'm not confirming or denying.

Bigger picture, dear boy. We can't pre-judge prejudice by a group of people with differing cultures to us.
You misunderstand the concept of cultural relativism. We only "pre-judge prejudice by a group of people with differing cultures to us" when we assume the same meaning behind things that exist in our own.
What...like that game designers put people in unrealistic costumes purely because sex sells? Glad none of us are doing that then.

I don't think that was ever one of Lisa's points:
Look for the similarities rather than the differences. Lisa's point was unrealistic rolemodels.
Yes...and in part of the bit you quoted...
I even threw out a few examples of characters I felt were designed merely as male sexual fantasy.
Or did you just interpret her point that way because it makes it easier for you to disagree with her?
I wouldn't want to crowd your judgement.

Like I keep saying, you two are arguing about different things.
Like I keep saying, Lisa is arguing that women are dressed unrealistically. I provide examples of where they're not and where men are.

So you're only better than people who have differing views to you...?

Uhm...

Now, as far as I'm aware...the definition, if we can have one, of -ism's is that they are depictions of minorities in a negative way that the majority are not depicted as.

And in that sense, I've not seen any -ism's as yet. Even DOA has impossibly muscled men with pectorals of STEEL.

When you paint on a small canvas, you're gonna lose a lot of the detail.

Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball had muscled men in it? Damn, well that changes everything.

So basically at this point, if The Escapist was a porno mag:

--the Forums would be like the hot and steamy and TOTALLY TRUE letters;

--Featured Content would be like Playboy interviewing Joyce Carol Oates;

and...

--Zero Punctuation would be the Centerfold.
who reads porno mags anymore?
