The Jimquisition website got DDOSed just after reviewing No Man's Sky

I complain about game hype a lot; but mainly because people spend their money upon promises months or even years before knowing what they're getting, and I try to warn everybody about the unnecessary high risk of disappointment. Nevertheless, it's their money, and they can do whatever they want with it. It doesn't directly affect anyone else.

However, this time it seems someone's hype just took a turn for the worst. I suspect somebody saw the review's game score on Metacritic, may or may not have read the review, got their piss boiled down to pure salt, and executed a DDOS attack. It doesn't matter if you think Metacritc or game scores are stupid or not. Game reviews never deserve taking down websites (no matter how much you love or hate the game).

That's a pretty strange reaction, considering that, while Jim didn't exactly love the game, he didn't put it on blast. He just leveled some criticism at the game, most of it fairly constructive (And most of the problems he talked about were pretty much exactly what one would expect from a game like No Man's Sky. In fact, he said pretty much point for point what I assumed the game would be like years before release).

Then again, Jim rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Maybe this was just the last straw.

People are terrible. Always were, always will be. Reminds me of Killzone and Adam Sessler...I miss him.

Mean comments are mean. But actions speak louder than words, and a line is crossed when breaking someone else's work tools just to shut him up.

My lack of outrage doesn't mean I don't think it was wrong. I just have a lot of faith in Jim's resilience. He is a master at enduring shit-flinging. I look forward to his eventual video lambasting the attack in humorous fashion.

Remember, fans of the game went on a harassment spree towards someone for reporting it was delayed.

Damn, I forgot about that! And I hoped this was just an isolated case. These are the kind of people who give fanbases a bad name.

I don't know anything about No Man's Sky other than the fact that people are talking about it, and people are also talking about the people who are talking about it, and people are talking about the people who are DDOS'ing the people who are talking about it.

Apparently there's some hype...?

Why does this game seem to have such a hype tornado surrounding it? It never looked like anything more than curiosity.
I wonder that myself. I'm genetically cynical, so I never believed a word of what the Dev said, but even what gameplay they showed look boring. I don't get the fervor of this one. I mean its not like its Fallout 4 or the new WOW expansion.

Its just MineCraft meets Elite Dangerous.

Maybe the people expecting so much out of this game were disappointed in Spore dropping the ball. No other reason comes to mind, to be honest.

I watched a little of Jims video, it looks like a Spore type of game. Not really the type of game to build so much hype.

Well that was a bit of a waste of time, given that Jim's stuff is also on Youtube:

Just goes to show what problems hype causes. No Man?s Sky was literally a ?Go system to system gathering resources to go to the next system.? That?s literally all it was advertised as.

The fact that people got obsessively out of control for that, both from reviewers and gamers, ends up a problem on the gamers in the end. Every part of the game that was shown showed it was a simple game, and yet somehow people started thinking it was going to be greater than what it was.

While I can't understand the obsession with this game at all and have zero interest in it, anything that puts a boot into Sterling's obnoxious ass is greatly appreciated.

Really, sir or madam? I have disagreed with Jim Sterling from time to time, but I would never wish this on him or anyone else for giving their goddamned opinion! If I threw a fit every time IGN, GameSpot, or Yahtzee disliked a game I liked, than I would be going nowhere in my life. And just so we are clear, I was never big fan of Sterling . When he moved to the Escapists, he got better. He had points that were true, backed them up, and apologized for any research mistakes on his part. Unlike some other so called professional reviewers I know. Any person that DDOS's a website just because someone had an opinion is a coward and too thin skinned to function in this world.

Jeez, why don't you say "too bad they didn't break his legs" while you're at it? Fortunately, it seems I'm much more upset with all this than he ever was all this time.

People are excited for games like that now? Sounds boring as... boring.

Ah the Sessler, giver of the best fan hate mail in history "your shirt are so ugly my penis fall off and run out the door"

OT - This is the same game that a delay caused a deluge of death threats towards the devs and currently has a 4chan review bomb raid vs a legion of screaming fanboys on metacritic. It's, for some reason (probably Sony), the magnet for absolutely everything wrong in gaming culture.

I seriously wonder what's wrong with people sometimes. "You said something I disagree with about a thing! I'm angry and I'm gonna crash your website to show you how wrong you are!"

At times like this I seriously consider the benefit of the internet having a maturity test. If you're a screaming 5 year old or a poo flinging monkey, maybe you should stick to irritating the people around you and leave the rest of the world out of it.
